I’d like to see a video of Ben’s opinion on mews and weathering area construction, sizes, ideas and designs. I know what the state requires but they are the minimums. These areas are the most expensive and important pieces of equipment but hardly discussed.

Great video! What worked for me the most was a combination of: increase the weight without direct association to me + walk to feed them outside + variations in the feeding hour. It worked pretty well on rescued imprint raptors here!

The worst raptor screaming was a Merlin, flown by a friend.

Even my passage redtail was a screamer. She only got quite when hunting. I didn’t mind it much since she was kept outside. I only realized what made her get that way after the damage was done. I’ll be able to avoid it next time.

@@DS-tw3cz Basically I was keeping her inside the first 10 days and then immediately kept her outside. The quick transition caused her to get noisy

Great video as always. Hollywood does the same thing with horses. They are not anywhere near as vocal as they are portrayed in tv and movies. Any scene with a horse it's always making some sort of horsey noise.

Hollywood does the same thing with TRex and other carnivorous dinosaurs. Why would a TRex or any carnivore roar before chasing you to eat you? That’s just silly

Hey Ben, here's a question that might make an interesting video… How have you and other seasoned falconers flown so many birds? Is there that much death loss through accidents and diseases, or do most falconers sell or release their birds regularly. It seems amazing to me listening to the stories of falconers who have been in the sport for 10 years or more and it seems like some of them have flown 30 or 40 birds at least. If death loss due to accidents and disease is a major factor, perhaps you could discuss prevention for some of the more common falconry birds. It would also be interesting to discuss veterinary expenses… how much money should a new falconer have a side set aside for vet care? How much money do you spend on average per bird of prey that you've owned?

I suspect Ben has had well over 100 birds pass through his hands. Aside from the traditional North American falconry birds, he's had Lanner falcons, Eurasian kestrels, European goshawks, harriers, rough-legged hawks, eagles, various owls and hybrids etc. He's probably had a lot of birds only briefly before transferring or releasing.

It is not normal and if any falconer says they have flown 30-40 birds they typically aren’t very good falconers or they may possibly do bird shows which is not falconry. Most of the good falconers fly a few birds for a very long time as most birds don’t hit their prime until they are 3-6 years old. There is obviously some mortality from disease and accidents but it is definitely not near the amount those (30-40 bird falconers) make it seem.

Have a 2nd year soft imprint who has just started screaming. Hopefully the techniques here will help

This totally off topic Ben but I know your into this kind of thing…. Did you see all the hullabaloo on line recently about the thylacine? This guy called neil waters that started a group called “thylacine awareness group of Australia” had posted a video were he was basically saying he had a video that proves once and for all that Thylacine are still alive but not just alive but BREEDING. He says it with such rock solid confidence and certainty that he caught a full family of thylacine on camera and it pretty much proves for a fact that thylacine are alive and well and still breeding. I was just wondering if you saw any of it?

@@benwoodrufffalconry dont rush to check it Ben. It was a MASSIVE let down. The guy went from being THEE thylacine guy to thylacine hoaxer in the space of a 5 minute video. Well known biologist Forrest galante even got in on the action.

Here's a question, perhaps stupid one but, still. Could you feed your birds cooked meat. I mean meat, when its heat treated, becomes much more nutricious and easyer to digest that, even wild animals prefer it to the raw meat. Also, by cooking, i dont mean for you to season it and what not, just plain boil it in a water as many birds happen to be rather sensitive to salts and what not. If they would prefer cooked meat to raw one, wouldnt it make it easyer to lure them with it as it is not available for them in the wild?
