I just got a Repo Glykon off of a Facebook market place ad, it does have a solid switch rather than a three piece but the pocket clip is completely different and it has aluminum scales. The action is super smooth. It hasnt failed once with constant fidgeting and feels really solid overall. $500+ is out of my budget but $60 is worth the gamble. I have an AKC F16 I paid $ 75 and the Repo Glykon action is much stronger and tighter when the bladed is extended/retracted. I am interested to see how long it lasts but overall happy with the purchase. I think it would be interesting to do a side by side like you guys did. Very important to remeber with the ACTUAL microtech you are getting SO much more than just a better knife for $500 MT gives you a a lifetime warranty if anything ever happens to your knife or its parts ETC. At the end of the day nothing is permanent and no one really cares what you do so enjoy life as it comes! Cheers guys thanks for the video

The clone I have today has one solid 3 sided button and has an almost exact blade size and width of the true glykon. Pretty crazy. And it was 45$ no noise when shaken blade open or closed it’s zero shaking noise. Very impressed with the newer clones compared to whatever they gave y’all in this video.

It has been a hot minute so times have changed.

Got one of these knockoffs from Amazon but it just looks the same there's no counterfeit markings on it. I'm not using it as a work knife or taking it camping, I just wanted it for my collection so it doesn't have to be super well made. I only paid $60 for it so it was a good price for a toy. It's really very well made and I like the double edged blade for self defense more than work anyway.

The fact that you guys harp so hard about what the cardboard the box is made of shows how good the clone is. Thanks for the review

agree the clones can be very good sometimes more durable i see videos of 500 -1000 dollar microtechs and benchmarks fail and break under stress test .to me any company that would charge 500-1000 dollars for a auto knife is stupid over priced ridiculas .people that cry boo hoo about the copies its chinese theft .figure out a way to stop it hire more customs agents instead of irs agents .more power to freedom to buy what ever is available to you .for 500 dollars you can buy 20 copies that will last you longer than a orginal

Microtech uses the real deal science steel. Took me 3 hours to sharpen the blade of my Troodon on a wetstone with a bit of singer sewing oil. I stuck my first Troodon in a vice and bent it 60* and the blade came back in place and deployed and dedeployed

Just got one from wish with one piece trigger and full removable scales on the top and T8s. The action is very smooth it would fool most as for build quality (longevity) we will see

I love this video, but would like to see a similar one with Denali Tactical Knives. Their designs are a straight copy of Microtech, including their blade grinds. Parts made in China, assembled in Alaska.

Its doubtful they are actually assembled here. Its likely they are lying and putting them into boxes at minimum.

I bought mine for $30 and for the price it's damn Good.

i got a chinesium fakrotech on ali express for 45$ but it must be a newer one or something cuz the bolts, gymping is complete, the one big dif is the bolt holding the picket clip but aside from that its nearly 1 to 1. i of course dont have a real to compare but just looks wise, ill have to take it apart n see the internals esp the 3 piece switch

That's how I got duped, lol. They even gave me US tracking info, except that was for the 3rd week of the trip after it arrived from China... All from a MADE IN USA company! Rofl

just ordered a Marfione clone for 50 bucks for my first otf, because i can't afford retail pricing in the US in 2024.

Recently got taken in by a fake Micro-Tech ad. Just arrived, not terribly great quality. Not sure why people rave about clones, sure feels like they get blinded by how much money they saved so they just feel it's great but in reality, not so much.

Can confirm. I got a clone combat troodon and it was fun to fidget with. Just bought an authentic UTX-70 and I’ll tell you the quality is insane. The authentic Microtech are definitely worth it 1000%

No. But there are very good copies available at 10% of the price of genuine.

FYI: these early fakes were garbage but there are newer models that are 99% indistinguishable. My buddy got an authentic Glykon when it came out and we just did a side by side and it's mind boggling. Even did a hardness test and the authentic came in at 59 HRC, fake at 60. The real kicker is the deployment on the fake seems hardier and there seems to be a tad less blade-play. My buddy already ordered a fake and is thinking about selling his authentic (albeit at a discount considering the small hardness tester indentation)

I find the utx 100s and other regular models clones to be much better than the glykons that I have seen. The last utx100 was really good.

I have seen a 940 titanium clone (the one that has the flared scales, not the 940-1) blade hrc 61

@@Northernknives Not sure exactly what your asking, but I saw the 940 Titanium from dhgate seller: kershaw tested and it's chemical composition was exactly generic K110 and it's Rockwell test was 60

You think I give a care about the rockwell hardness on a POCKET KNIFE!! As a pro chef, the only time rockwell matters to me is on legit Japanese Chef knives.

Todays clones are incredible and for $60 Canadian dollars why would I pay $500us when I could get 6 clones for the price and they give you the tool to take it apart.

Having had less than stellar knives fail in my hands has taught me to buy up market a bit. It all depends on the user. Most people are happy with KOBALT tools, but if you are using it like a hard use tool than ya gotta upgrade.

Well first off, because clones are disgusting. Instead of buying a Chinese clown/clone why don't you buy a cheap boker, or cobratec. Which for the price, cobratec from what I can tell are pretty decent and made in America... But anyone who is totally unashamed to buy clones of anything really says a lot about that person's character... or lack there of. Plus clones are not even close to the same build quality, and are using unnamed "stainless steel" Do you know anything about the different materials that go into making knives, the cost to work with them and the machine time and man hours that go into making a high quality knife? My guess is absolutely not?

I have no problem with clones. What I object to is the dishonest advertising and attempts to pass off phonies as genuine name brand stuff. That is wrong on every level. Facebook supports and encourages that type of illegal activity. It is a buyer beware market out on the internet.

like how they got a cheap shitty clone lmao. I got a $50 one and the only thing it doesn't have is the screws and deep engraving. Beyond that, it's an exact replica of the real deal, and functions just as well. Gotta love the mental gymnastics people go through to tell themselves they didn't get screwed over when they shelled out $500+ for a name brand knife that they could've gotten for $50 at most.

Hi there. We didn't get the cheapest one we could find. We found the most realistic one we could and it was much more expensive than $50. The internal machining was very different and there are certain things in the real one (like a one piece trigger button) that were done completely differently for cost savings and simplicity of manufacturing. Not to mention a less than stellar heat treat.

It’s not just about that, it’s the same with fake jewelry, fake designer clothing, etc. Looks like the real thing but it’s not and you know it deep down. I personally don’t want to know that me as a person is just trying to “look” the part but not actually be it. Everytime I wear something or pull it out knowing deep down it’s fake and I am not being authentic There’s an internal component when you buy fake or real things

Affected people are focusing on knives being made in China, yet are sitting most likely on a chair made in China, using technology that may or may not have come from China, wearing clothes that were made in China, shopping at stores frequently like Walmart we're most items are made in China, seems ridiculous to me. You're focusing on one item and picking a hill to die on, while every other aspect of your life supports the very country you're arguing against purchasing from. It's simply ridiculous in my eyes. Yes they're good clones out there for a discounted price, yes the American made knives and most instances outperform them in a variety of ways. There are people on the planet, they work hard for the money yet cannot justify 500 600 or $1,000 knife. Some of them can't even justify a $200 knife. However those people can justify 40 or 60 or $100 clone, so that they can have the same amount of enjoyment, possibly to a lesser degree of course, as the person who spent $500 on a knife. It also provides the opportunity for person to see if they like that style of knife, if the ergonomics or something that works for them, etc before they drop $1,000 in a knife. I'm one of those people. I own tens of thousands of dollars in knives, yet several of them are in my collection because I was able to buy a clone first to see if it was something I would like. I can understand the level of being upset that someone has chosen to steal a design from an American company. When you look at the big picture and realize how many companies, and how widespread that is, it becomes disgusting, and you realize it happened under your nose during our lifetime, and now there's no way to stop it. So like I said picking a hill to stand on like knives, when you're surrounded by items you've purchased from China, or items you've purchased from a store here in America that were definitely made in China... And attacking someone saying that purchasing items from China is an indication of their character, it all just adds up to absolute pile of ridiculousness. Hope my comment put some things into perspective for all of you. And feel free to fact check me. I can almost guarantee any clothes that you're wearing right now, at least two articles of clothing were made in China. Instead of focusing so quickly on the small picture, take an overall bird's eye view of the big picture as well. Most things in life are just a matter of perspective. Your perspective 100% of the time will be different than anybody else's. It's beneficial in so many ways to be open to learning about others perspectives. Once you do so you start to become a little better seeing the world for what it is.

They both have poor heat treat decisions and because of that, the real one is valued at far less then they price it at. Microtech range from 57 to 60 for m390 and they are more often lower than 60. The fakes may be bad... But so are the microtechs 60 is sub par. Anything lower is garbage. Switch to a different steel or do better.

Just, like, speechless here. That's funny, not the actual situation but it is funny.

Until MT can win a copyright infringement case in China, (a country who doesn't care about US copyrights) , more power to the clones that come in at 1/10 the price. This is probably not the blade you're going to take on a deadliest catch fishing boat cutting rope 18 hours a day or use on a farm to cut open bales of hay and mend fences all day, or work in a shipping dept ripping boxes to shreds 40 hours a week. More than likely this clone will be used as self-defense duty having it in hand as you fill up on gas or walk across the parking lot at the grocery store. For causing wounds to an attacker in effort to convince them to break off their attack and run to another zip code, this clone will do almost as good as the real thing, I don't think the attacker will be able to tell the difference. One more thing, watch your own video and see if you can see the smug attitude all four of you exude. Change it up and be a little more personable and likable since you are representing a company.

Some of the chicom companies are better than others. I buy cloned for work and the quality of build and materials is getting better. The last one I bought was a mediator sp? And it was really good. According to my rockwell files its about 58, super snappy and they finally found the correct Styrofoam for the box. Before that I got a sith lord utx100 and the quality is nice on that too esp for 40 bucks. Just thought I would do a little editing to try and not advertise my louisiana state education shortcomings.

I can respect the video intent but why does it look like you all purposely picked the cheapest peace of shit copy to order to emphesize your point? I have seen much better clones being put out that match the blade shape, have single piece buttons, the back spacer has jimping all around all at around the $50 mark. What you showed I would expect out of a $20 clone.
