Is buying from amazon a safe way to go? I got mine yesterday, after seeing more reviews I'm just not sure????

That actually looks like the most impressive fake I have ever seen (if it is indeed a fake).

I think XACTO had a video on the special markings in the spider symbol of the blade that signify where it was made. I don't remember what they were though but you can probably find it with a quick search here on KZread.

Only the newer build Military ( not sure on the start date) have aluminum back spacer. the older ones were some kind of polymer. They also now have liners in both scales instead of just the lock side.

This looks like a factory second, that originally got rejected for flaws.

Bro, this looks just like mine. Mine was made a long time ago, is a real Spydie, and all the details you mentioned are the exact same as mine. The real test is what steel the blade is, if it cuts and holds an edge like s30v, and sharpens like s30v, then its real. Mine is so old that the stamp on the blade is CPM 440V, and no spider stamp at all, just the word "MILITARY". My clip is exactly like yours. The ringer for me is the lock. The fine teeth cut into it 100% match mine.

The back spacers on all my Military's are g10 but you are right about the lock bar being blasted. I've never seen one that was shiny or looked stonewashed like yours. It's too bad the Chinese people making these fakes can't put that same ingenuity into producing their own damn designs so folks like us don't have to worry about getting unauthentic products.

Based on this second video it looks real to me. Though the liner not being blasted is odd unless they didn't always do that in which case it could be older and explain the weak texture because to me it looks worn and used. The blade grind being off is possible with even spyderco, I had a blue para with a spine that was really off on the grind, they fixed it though. I am happy that you are able to return it though since you are not happy with it and that's the most important thing.

Glad to hear you are getting your money back. I've stopped buying clones and feel much better about it.

I got a Para2 from BladeHQ recently, and I noticed it also has that centering issue, and then noticed what you noticed, one side of the blade was actually ground a different angle than the other. I know it's not a fake, but I think since Spyderco's production of the Para2 has been down for a few months, they were really trying to crank them out and the quality is just a TAD off from what you can expect from them.

Looks fine to me. Admittedly the grind is a little off, but everything else appears the same as mine.

From videos Ive watched Spyderco knifes close faster without much resistance. Not sure though maybe new ones have to be broken in. Looking into getting my first Spyderco soon!

This video made me pull out my ebay-purchased Military and give it a good look over. Mine seems legit - bead blasted liner and a different manufacturer's code on the box. Thanks for getting the info out there!

Some people say fakes are worth the price. I bought a couple by mistake. What got my attention was the pivot screw turned and would not let me disassemble the knife. Also, the steel was so poor I could not get an edge on it. I sent it to Spyderco and they informed me it was fake. A knife you can not sharpen is not worth $10. I also noticed on Spyderco's website the pivot has the ability to put a torx in both sides. My fake looked like the pivot in this video. I was wondering if Spyderco has both types of pivots, smooth on one side and torx on both sides?

Absolutely looks legit to me..and I have..and have handled a number of these. Various things have changed over the years, including the feel of the G10. I can't be 100% without holding it, but I don't see anything that would set off alarms. You may well have a second...or one that sat around in a box..or was used a bit and sold as new. I honestly think you were wrong to accuse the guy of selling a fake. I'd have to hold it...or hear from Sal..to be sure from just a video, however.

Experienced this very issue with amazon. Price was "too good to be true". Amazon accepted a return/refund. Went back to my regular/trusted online retailer. They cost a little more, but the saying holds true "you get what you pay for".

The black engravings should be an instant tip. Spyderco engravings are dark grey, not black.

Is there any chance that my knife would be a fake if I ordered it from Amazon. I have a spiderco ambitious that I ordered yesterday.

There's also no real market for faking a knife that costs $30. great knife, i have one, but i can't really see how much more crude a knockoff could be because it's not the most refined folder. A knockoff of that knife would pretty much be the same thing, if you know what i mean.

Could be interesting a side by side comparision between the fake and the original like cutting cardboard, ropes, some soft woods etc.

That looks pretty real...my para 2s g10 isn't very grippy...maybe spyderco threw the wrong paper in it happens

My liner lock does look different than that. The blade isn't centered when it's closed, but that's because I adjusted the pivot screw so the liner pushes it to the side a little bit.

The clip is different than mine. On mine, the three screws are clustered together, and it has holes on the other side for it so you can switch sides.

I agree. I'm hoping my claim, that the item wasn't as described because it is a fake replica, will translate to repercussions for him.

I got a really military 2 and then order a fake off wish so I tare up my fake. But that being said they are spot on so for 20 bucks I'm happy. It dose not have the same scales . But its s30v and everything else matches up.

I DON'T think it is fake. Remember that the Military is a fairly old design. The G10 on the Military is definitely not the same as most spydercos. Everything on your knife looks correct to me. I would say that you have a fairly old production run. I think you will be pleasantly surprised when you buy another one and see that it is the same. I say keep it until you get another and compare them. Good Luck!

If its counterfeit then you are allowed to keep it and get your money back. I would go that route as Im sure he's knows and is selling them and you just happen to catch it. The liner on mine clearly shows its Titanium and grayish too but the G-10 is not like the G-10 on my Para2. Do you mind sending me the sellers name so I can see his history on ebay?

Also the gold spidie logo on the real spyderco boxes ...you can see the "swoop" very faintly through the logo. When it's solid like on that box..supposedly another give away.

Brother, that sucks. I also noticed the lock face design seems to be cut at a right angle, (paused at 4:57) however Spyderco does a radius lock face.

I just recently got a military with a dlc blade. Off of Ebay! Wonder if its a fake. Even if that knife is not a fake I would send it back just because of the the blade not being centered.

On BHQ the logo on the blade and writing on the ricasso are grey not black and the bottom of the ricasso is more rounded on yours. The grind lines seem to be different too but that might just be me. And the last thing I saw was that the pocket clip is not visible outside of the screws.Good luck.

there is a fake exactly like this. I think the main differences are higher weight (144 gramms vs. 120) which it has because of steel liners inlaid inside the G10

Since I live in Europe, I have to buy on eBay. Prices in Europe are twice(!?!) as high as in the US (also German produced Bökers!?!) and shipping costs of most US knifeshops are around 40/45USD. And on eBay only 10/20USD. Also, I am a Millie fanboy. I have three of them. EDC'ing one for five years now. Last year a M390 C/F. And bought all of them on eBay US. Hmmm... I've had my G10 Millie for a couple of years, and here's what pops out to me, Carter. First, the laser etching is far too dark. A real Spydie looks more like an etch, and yours looks almost like an ink stamp (though it's probably not). Next, the edge grind does not look like a Golden grind at all. You are also correct on the locking liner and clip -- should have a blasted liner, and that is not a PVD coated clip. Also, in HD, that steel looks like VG-10, definitely not S30V.

I just got a fake on Amazon. seller was from overseas, didn't see that until it was too late. I tried to cancel within a few minutes but they ignored it. I have the knife in my hands now (after almost 4 weeks), and it's scary real looking. the C81 paramilitary 2. The 2 main things that don't sit right with me are, first, no spider logo on the clip. This could be how it is but i doubt it. Secondly, and this is what tells me for sure, is NONE of the clip holes are tapped. It has 4 positions, so 12 screw holes in all, and not 1 hole is tapped, the screws are just jammed in there. Oh yeah, the reason i got worried was because the first review called the seller a liar and the knife was fake. Mine also didn't come in a box, just a loose knife in a bag, and arrived in a small padded envelop today. Most of it is right though. It uses real G-10 material, the blade is very nicely finished and symetrically flat ground. Everything is laser etched where it should be (brand, blade steel, spider, golden CO, and the 2 symbols beside the spyder hole. The edge put on it is very even and straight unlike most dollar store knives. It makes me wonder if they come out of the factory that makes those few non-USA made spydercos. This guy's knife ad was removed from Amazon shortly after i clicked to buy so you can't even check out. So far, amazon has never failed to make things right for me so i'm confident this will be corrected also. I've bought many things on amazon, this was the only real con game i've encountered and it's been taken care of.

Also the barcode lines don't touch the numbers! The real spyderco's barcode goes all the way to the digits.

The part with the steel is not actually the case. The fake hinderers are using S35VN. They have access to good materials. And CPM-440V is S60V

That is probably the best fake major brand knife I have ever seen. That is just sad how people are constantly trying to rip off others.

LIke I said, most of what gave it away was the feel. And, I know this is funny, the smell. It had a weird petroleum type smell. Can't really explain it, so I didn't mention it in the vid, but it had a strange smell to it.

Contact Sal through blade forums. Knife is not a fake, just not perfect. I looked into it and everything is fine, even the liner finish was actually done 3 ways. You should apologize to the seller.

Highly unlikely. They would have to ship the s30v from the states. I doubt they would do that. Probably something they have available there, like 440c

The lock should look like 3k sand paper and the lock face is more radius..use cutleryshoppe..they(he) are awesome!

I wouldn't immediately jump to the conclusion that this is a fake...could have just been a blade that was never meant to leave the factory, defected from what a real military should be, rather than built from the ground up just to be like one (hence the astounding resemblance). I am not, of course, discounting the idea that it could be a fake, but it really seems very likely that it is not.

I'm not convinced that it is fake. Look at Cutlerylover's video review of the military, the ricasso shape and black lettering look identical.

Did anyone ever verify for sure this one was a fake? If so, what vendor on Ebay was it bought from?

The laser etching has a deeper black to it than the real thing.

fakes today are really good! Some are perfect! The new fakes have got all the things right!

Tyler Backs "doe"? Are you serious? You talk like that? I apologize for not answering your question but that "doe" at the end of the sentence threw me off. Does that happen often to you? That people don't answer your questions because of the way you speak? OR it might be because you can't seem to understand what people said, asked a silly question. Added "doe" at the end of the question and people just said it is really not worth trying to explain something to this guy. I refuse to translate English to English because English is not my native language. I bet it is yours!

English is my first language. You are very smart. I understand completely what you said, did you understand what I said? If I order a blade I want the real blade, it doesn't matter if its just as practical, a blade that costs over 100 dollars is being purchased for the exclusivity and pride of ownership, a knock off completely kills that and is thus worth nothing. Also no, I've never met anyone who refused to answer a question of mine because I typed "doe" instead of "though". Most people are tough enough to be able to handle a small amount of slang. Next time I'll use proper grammar just for you.

Tyler Backs Thank you. Much appreciated. Using "thus" does not make a sentence fancy. Your question implied that I somehow said that fakes are good(in a sense that I like them). When people say: "A really good fake" they usually mean that it looks and feels very much like the original. That does not make fakes acceptable. I would buy a fake knife to see how it is but if I would pay full price for a fake knife I would get pretty upset. As would any normal person.

I called you out because I thought you were saying that fakes are so good that they are acceptable, now I see we obviously agree that fakes are completely unacceptable. You said "Some are perfect! The new fakes have got all the things right!" Well if its a fake, in my opinion its gotten everything wrong besides the ability to rip people off. I guess you're trying to say that you have to be extra aware because fakes are so close to real? The video we all just watched showed us that. These particular fakes are/were charging full price or damn near it. I just realized this video is from over a year ago so I'm not sure if the info is as relevant anymore. I apologize for replying to an old comment. Maybe next time someone asks you a question or replies to you, try to lay off criticizing their grammar. It comes off as pompous.

Yeah they sell these 1:1 clones all day on aliexpress . I was thinking on buying one for comparison. For a fraction of the price its hard not to pass up.

I did, its worth it, I`m new to knives so didnt want to spend alot then decide not to carry on and waste money but when I recieved it I was amazed. I got a Spyderco C173 Hugarian from the ethnic series,$10.79 its beautiful, the choice is yours got it from aliexpress dot com.

dude, that's not a fake. it's just an older variant :| I have one like that and The g-10 isn't that greepy. back spacer isn't aluminum, it's just plastic. And i'm not surprised that spyderco would grind the blade like that - remember they are just a production company. And the liner on mine is yeah beadblasted but I'm not sure that was the only finish they put on there... oh, and btw - fakes really look like they are fakes. this one - doesn't really...

You think it actually was s30v? ALL the spyderco milies and PM copies are supposedly S30V (or D2 in some instances).

Fakes are getting way too close. In the watch world too, just over the last couple of years the fakes have gotten so good that authorized dealers who have sold and worked with the genuine watches for years can't even tell a fake under a loupe. You can even interchange all of the parts with genuine parts. They're basically building genuine unlicensed products. If the newer Kevin John knives had real markings on them, I think they'd be almost as difficult to tell apart.

I have a true military, you can also tell by the sound of the liner lock. It is a much lower pitch.

I noticed the real appears to have black phillip head screws on the pocket clip..... I think the fakes have the stainless torque screws...... that was the first thing I saw in the pictures.

That G10 looks like the cheaper Chinese stuff they use on the Tenacious too

No, bladehq is good to go and top notch. Any official Spyderco dealer you are safe with. The places to watch out for are eBay sellers, amazon dealers, and buying used

It may very well be fake... but I've watched a few videos where guys are wanting the stainless look on their spyderco clips and they drop them into some paint remover and the coating comes right off.. so.. judging from that clip.. it would be hard to say...

If the lines don't touch the top of numbers on bar code it is possibly a fake. Send it to spyderco and they will verify.

also the fake boxes the numbers under the barcode don't go all the way to the barcode the real boxes there is no space between the numbers and the barcode

Weizenale silver I don't know because I got my knife from Blade HQ in the barcode does not touch the numbers but looks real and Blade HQ reputable business

my legit spyderco blades veer to one side also. I find this a common thing with many brands, grinds and bevels are almost never perfect. I had to send a kershaw to the factory because the blade was straight bent out of the box. Spyderco kind of has some not great quality control. Bad centering on expensive knives, un even cutting edges, not perfectly straight blades, blade play. I love spyderco knives but I kind of hate the brand. Not to mention their warranty states you can never buy a replacement blade they just won't give you one so, when you use your spyderco everyday, and sharpen it numerous times untill the blade is half gone, your done. Benchmade/kershaw/and others will rebuild that knife for you with a fair price in mind, shit kershaw will put a new blade on anything for 10 bucks, 35 for a ZT. They want you to buy a new knife ASAP with spyderco it sucks.

If i were you i would leave feedback with that seller on ebay saying that you recieved a fake from him. Someone else may read that and be saved from the hassle of getting a fake from him also.

I only have one seller on ebay I trust. Bought 4 knives from them and all are real and arrived quickly.

Hope my recon 1 from cold steel isn't fake off of amazon haha that para also doesn't seen as smooth.
