That's actually what I did in my university years, as I can never remember my lecturer's names. The only time we ever hear their names is during the first class, afterwards, no one in the entire semester actually used their names to call out to them. They either used gestures or just straight up went to questions rather than names to get our lecturers attention.

Kinda reminds me of my biology professor at high school. The first class we had, he came up with some ridiculously strict rules, tough questions none of us could have possibly answered, stuff like this. I came home thinking he was some lunatic who was gonna make our lifes miserable. Next class we found out he had just trolled us big time, he was actually a very kind person with a wonderful sense of humor and cracking one-liners and also a first class expert, whose tests proved to be one of the easiest ones. I still remember him fondly to this day, 10 years after that horrible first class. :D

One of my psych professors did this in lecture hall. He sat in the middle of the room, class was full to capacity, 15 minutes late and no teacher showed up. I knew who he was, as he was my teacher in previous class. I, like a few others knew what he was up to, so we kept quiet. People started saying things like "fuck this bitchass teacher," "what loser," and so on. Finally one student got up and told everyone to make a list of all the students present and leave. Then, the professor stated "that would be a great idea so I know who to kick out of my class!" You could just see the terror in the faces of all the people who were talking shit! It was hilarious! The teacher of course explained it was a practice in observing the true hypocrisy in people, it was psych class after all.

In Belgium there are a certain amount of study points you have to reach to pass the year. Let's say all your classes count up to 60 study points, you will only need 30 to pass (sometimes it's different). So we can fail some exams and still pass, although not with flying colours.

So the first guy's posture was intimidating and impartial, which is the illusion of what the teaching role is. Good teachers are frequently amicable and have lax rules about their names, make jokes, and keep a light-hearted tone in their voice. You could only see a half minute from the real professor, but there's still a lot to observe from it.

All of you are in for a surprise when you go to college. These stadium seat classes are very common in general education courses (chem 121, psy 101, etc.) because every major has to take them. My intro to psychology class had 300 students and there were graduate students that sat in the back and counted seats for attendance. In large classes like that, good luck trying to meet with the professor outside of class or getting them to respond to your email! Bottom line, it sorta feels like you're teaching yourself in a way.

tappedswine That's not something I recommend. Most professors' tests come directly from their notes / powerpoints and skipping class means you get none of that. When you study on your own, you'd have to read the entire book; but if you go to class, you know what to really focus on. Good luck.

Try here in the Philippines. With the same amount of students in a very small classroom with a small number of chairs and only a blackboard. Damn.

The fake prof was trying to exaggerate, but his statement about premeds who make it was accurate (and likely even an underestimation).

I can't deny the way that he acts were great

I started college at 45 and was the first person in class on opening day. I was dressed in khaki shorts and a polo shirt and have grey hair with a full grey/white beard. I was fumbling with my computer and stuff on the front row when the other students began to come in. I have a nasty sense of humor (ask my wife) so I told everyone to take a seat and we'd take role at the top of the hour. To my defense, I didn't lie one bit. When the actual prof walked in to the front of the room everyone looked at me and said, "Who the hell are you?" You can only do that once before everyone has had a class with you or realizes that professors don't wear shorts to class.

This is very funny. When I was in undergraduate I did have a nightmarish professor like this. He declared that if anyone talked while he was lecturing, he would lower the grades of everyone in the class, and the bastard actually did that. These days, he would never get away with that kind of absurd tyranny.
