I had a fake mono box set and along with all of the bad things you pointed out, my Beatles For Sale, was blank white on the inside left of the gatefold. Also the Rubber Soul had no printing on the disc other than the Parlophone logo. I just went out and bought a real copy. I couldn't be happier with it. Thanks for your video.

The real Mono CD Box set is superb in quality, sound and picture wise and build quality all round.

Superb is an adjective. Nothing to rely on. Some people think something is superb and other people think its terrible. We need facts. I think the thing about the different color in For Sale is a mistake. They do have different color both original boxes.

I appreciate videos like this showing off specific things to look for in a bootleg, because now I can guarantee that the sealed 'Beatles in Mono' box I got from Japan is the real deal.

Hi, I got taken too, I bought mine around 2012 when Ebay was swamped with mono and stereo fakes. The covers, the printing were terrible but the discs were the worst. The White album came with just one disc, Revolver and Hard days night wouldn't play at all and Help! cover wasn't even glued. In short I bought an original, made copies of the bad discs and gave it away as a Christmas gift to my brother. He loves it! Your review is spot on, thx!

I think I just bought the fake version without realising it some of the sleeves are a bit off but I found the audio very good and actually a bit better than some of the single mono CDs I got. It is a nice shelf piece that fits nicely with The Bob Dylan Mono CD Box Set. Thank you for your video.

The real Box set which I got from HMV did have the funny plastic inner sleeves which came along with repro inner sleeves advertising other albums from that time. I slip the the cds into the plastic sleeves and then into the other inner sleeves They really are worth getting a proper version to listen to!

I bought the stereo set at a local record store the day it came out but didn't feel I could spend the extra money on the mono set at the time. A few years ago I decided I wanted the mono set and went online to see if I could find one. Right off the bat I saw sets for around $30 and wondered, "could this be true?" Then I saw they were coming from China and knew something must be fishy as I saw a couple of sets going for considerably more money. After doing some research I learned about the fake sets from China. I eventually located a legitimate sealed set, paid the higher price and with the knowledge I now had I was able to confirm it was not a counterfeit set when I received it and I am very happy with it. If a similar choice comes up in the future I will just bite the bullet and go for it all.

While the cheaper price is attractive, I found out that you get what you pay for. I got stuck with a bootleg copy and was so disappointed, that I went and bought a real one and happy to pay the higher price.

I’ve got the vastly vastly cheaper boot copy and am we’ll satisfied,the only error on it was the white album disc track listing has side one on both discs printed until you play them.Nope I’ve had mine for 10 years and still happy with it.

My regrets that you got a counterfeit mono set. It's ironically sad that so many great inventions throughout history originate from the nation of origin of this box set. Today a good deal (but not all) of sellers from there are peddling fake wares with abandon and should be kicked to the curb with their crap.At least you can still experience the essence of the basic sounds which comprise the mono versions of the music you love so much. My cousin, who is American bought me The Beatles box set in Stereo. When I opened it I didn't realise it was fake. I looked at the Revolver lp and the names were wrong, the only that was spelt correctly was John Lennon. I haven't told it was a fake and I have no intentions not to tell her. I bought the Mono for forty pounds. I had no idea it was a fake. Neither of them had the folded envelopes at the back. The sound quality is pretty good. Sgt Pepper in Mono is superb. So, no regrets. Hopefully they will release another set in the foreseeable future.

I had exactly the same issues. Got one from China on ebay (half knowing it might be fake). And being so gutted when I got it that I immediately paid 10 times the price to get the real thing from Amazon! 😳😭. So now I've got 2 mono boxes. 😲. The difference in quality is night and day though!

Hi, Del! I'd like to ask you how can I notice the difference before buying it? I want to buy the mono box but as I can't open the box to check some information, I have to decide from the outer part of the box.

Didn't see anyone mention it, but the genuine mono CD box was manufactured in Japan to a very high quality. The sleeves are beautiful repros of the original front-laminated flipback covers, with period-correct repro Emitex inner sleeves, the discs are fairly faithful repros of the original Parlophone and Apple labels (nice original gold design on Please Please Me), gatefolds where there should be (For Sale, Pepper, Mystery Tour, White Album), repro inserts for Pepper and White Album...I got duped with a cheapo box (probably from China)-all my discs were stereo!! And the sleeves weren't even as good quality as the regular stereo CD covers!! Luckily, I was able to swap it for the real thing.

The mono boxed set I received as a gift a year after it was released is legit. It was pressed in Japan and there are no errors anywhere. But, the stereo boxed set I bought in 2010 at Best Buy is terrible. Glue on the cd’s from the covers on most of them. I’m presuming it’s a fake. Oh well. The mono one was more important to me anyway. They are from the original analog tapes. Those 2009 stereo cd’s are only enhanced sound, not remixes like the current Giles Martin’s Pepper, Abbey Road and White Album which are beautiful new remixes. In my opinion the Beatles albums released originally in mono sound better anyway including the 2009 mono cd’s. Those are directly from the original analog master tapes. Whatever you do don’t waste your time on the stereo LP’s boxed set. They are from digital transfers. The 2014 mono LP’s are from the original analog tapes and it’s very expensive but comparable to the original LP’s.

The real box set comes with those rice paper clear sleeves to hold the Disks

Unfortunately, the original is getting very hard to find. Mine was stolen along with the stereo one and many other items. I wish Apple reissued this jewels.

The mono is NOT "fold-down". The early LPs were NOT stereo.

I don´t have problem when bought these boxes sets,all coming sealed and with stamp of quality.Have good sound and clean.By the way now I can see what is pirate or original,with this video.

Hello, I bought my box set from Best Buy and have left it sealed. How I can I be sure it is not counterfeit? The Apple on the front is bright and bold like the Apple should be.

The saddest thing of all is that when you play the CDs, these are in stereo, at least the ones I have.

They do not play in stereo. It will play through both speakers if you have two speakers attached but that is not a stereo mix. Shift the balance to one side or unplug one of your speakers if you want a 1960s experience but there’s no need to do that.

I think an original mono box has also a different color for beatles for sale than the one in the stereo box.

The apples on my stereo set are quite dark, but everything else is genuine. i.e. no typos etc. So why are my apple decal on the box and cover so dark?

What did you expect for thirty five quid?

So...how can I check, before buying and without opening the box, that the box is orinigal?

I’ve got fake stereo and mono boxed sets that I picked up when I was living in Shanghai (where genuine articles just cannot be had). I have never listened to the discs, as I’ve kept them in the shrink wrap, so I can’t speak to the audio quality or the quality of the booklets or inner sleeves. The outer boxes of both sets seem to be of higher quality than the other fakes I’ve seen reviewed on KZread. Some of my albums exhibit some of the spelling errors and bad reproduction quality I’ve seen, but others do not. I conclude that I’ve got a higher quality fake, but a fake nonetheless.

I got the mono box set when it first came out. I got mine from the same people who put on The Beatles Convention in The U.S. (AKA The Fest For Beatles Fans) and they only sell authentic, officially licensed Beatles products, so, luckily, mine is the genuine article. Sorry you got ripped off and such an unscrupulous way.

On the day you bought the stereo set, I bought the mono boxset. I bought a real second mono set weeks later.

ts214121 I bought the stereo version in the uk when it was released, I think it cost just under 200 pounds, the mono was slightly cheaper from memory. I would be very careful buying from e bay, I would try zavvi or HMV if they still have them. That said you would spot my fake a mile away🤣

I bought the mono box set when it first came out as I hadn't heard many of the mono albums and figured that as the stereo ones were also being released separately I could get them as and when, From HMV it cost me around £189. It was/is an excellent buy and I play a number of the early albums only in the mono as I don't like the separation of vocals.

I have a fake mono White Album and a fake Mono Masters. They sound great. Must have been a different pirate. Some of the song titles are spelled wrong.

Thanks for the response, I'll put that on the back burner. Here's my situation with my mono set. When I insert the discs in my computer some say The Beatles in Mono with an image of the box set disc 1, disc 2, etc. While other discs have their album title and image displayed. Shouldn't every disc say Beatles in mono.

Hey Michael, so i did what you did in 2016. Saw the price for 30.00 bucks from China, got a hold of the seller he said it's all good and i got screwed. On mine 2 of the songs skip. The writing on the cds are a mess. On the white album it has the albums first track as Birthday CD 1. Cd 2. starts with Back in the U.S.S.R. I was pissed. Got a hold of the seller and told him i was going to report to e-bay and i was going to write in the comments that he was selling counterfeit cds. Well that did it because he put the money back in my account and said keep the box set. So i still have it just for looks lol To good to be true is right. Take Care

If the Chinese manufacturers went through the trouble of copying the printed portion of the box set, it wouldn't have taken much more effort to press the CDs using the real mono CDs as the masters instead of some "poor quality MP3s". I own a real Mono box, which I bought from Amazon the day they were released, and I can tell you, what you are hearing may well be the real mono mixes. When it comes to MONO, you cannot listen with audiophile ears because the quality just isn't there to begin with. Mono mixes were made for the purpose of sounding LOUD and PUNCHY in low end record players that were the norm in Britain at the time of The Beatles' existence. So, when you say that the LOW end and the TOP end are "not there' or "wrong", it is most likely how they really sound in Mono.

I bought a knockoff Beatles -In Mono box set. The flaps from the back of each cover is missing. Revolver has no song titles printed on the disc. Beatles For Sale has the inside left panel white (blank). White album has no printing or embossing on the front cover. Mono Masters is glued very crooked ànd doesn't fold flat. The booklet is very thin and flimsy and the pages are so thin, the pages stick together.. The outer box itself has a pretty dark Apple on front and on the back is an outline of a half of an apple with no color to it. Oh, BTW. I got 2 copies of Rubber Soul in it. They too have no song titles printed on the discs. But if you check Discogs, I am not the only one who has been taken by this scam. Please look before you spend your hard earned cash. I just bought a real one, so I feel a bit better.

BTW When I bought my Mono box on Aug 10th 2009 for USD $229 ( I checked the order on Amazon). The Media Preacher says he paid 200 UKP, which is much more than what we paid here in the US. I don't understand why British consumers have to pay MORE for a product Made In England, than an American would for an import from the same country. I think the Brits are being ripped off.

The main difference with original is that CD's are mono. The fake are stereo, well mine is, the sound is great, so for £30 I have all Beatles albums on CD plus in stereo. Bargain

The early "Beatles" were NOT stereo. The were PRE-MIXED MONO. READ George Martin's "All You Need is Ears," where he explains those facts. He was, after all, in the room, and supervised both recordings and mixes.

Not true at all; ALL UK Beatles LPs up to Yellow Submarine were mixed in TRUE 2-channel stereo and mono. Yellow Sub mono is a fold-down from the stereo. What does 'pre-mixed mono' even mean??

Or you can read George Martin's detailed description of how recording was done: ALL music on one track, ALL vocals on one track, THEN mixed to MONO because the MARKET was MONO, and the means of record promotion was radio, which was MONO. You simply don't know what you're talking about, and have stressed yourself by bothering to read anything other than misuse of technical terms mixed with bullshit, which goes back to the demand the the first four "Beatles" LPs be released in "stereo". That's a dead "argument" that was based in ignorance of how the recordings were made. The same "confusion" applies to "four-track" recordings. In reality, two two-track machines were used, the second for overdubbing. So the base recording was always two-track. And, of course, it is necessary to IGNORE these two facts: the "hole in the middle" of the "stereo" that was there ONLY because it had not yet been mixed AS WAS THE STANDARD: as MONO. And that the so-called "stereo" was "mixed" as an AFTER THOUGHT. In fact, EMI released the pre-mixed MONO as "stereo" without consulting George Martin, and he was PISSED about that. READ George Martin's "All You Need is Ears". He -- unlike you "Beatles" newbies with your heads full of bullshit -- was actually in the studio making the recordings.

And once again you're COMPLETELY wrong about these recordings: the first 2 LPs are 2-track recordings (but using more than one 2-track machine to bounce tracks together). From A Hard Days' Night to Pepper, these are 4-track recordings, using 2 or more 4-track machines for bouncing. White Album represents a move to an 8-track recorder. There's no "so-called stereo" Beatles LPs in the UK, they are categorically TRUE stereo. No book would convince me otherwise; all you have to do is listen to the recordings.

@@19mole76 READ George Martin's "All You Need is Ears". I've been listening to "The Beatles" since 1963. And no: the early "Beatles" LPs are NOT "stereo" -- that's why the "HOLE IN THE MIDDLE". It was by mixing the two basic tracks -- they are NOT "panned" -- into MONO that eliminated the "hole". In order to "pan" a sound, the sound must be recorded to at least two tracks. The EMI STANDARD was to record ALL the vocals on ONE track and ALL the music on the OTHER track, THEN mix to MONO, because the MARKET was MONO, and radio promotion was MONO. READ George Martin's "All You Need is Ears" -- he was there, unlike all the third-party second-guessers who don't know the actual meanings of the recording terms they toss in in failed effort to appear intellectual.

You must have some kind of severe hearing damage if you can't hear the stereo panning on ALL those LPs. You obviously don't have to have ONE sound (vocal, guitar etc) recorded to more than one track to pan, you just need a 2-channel recorder, left and right. You even said it yourself-vocals to one track, music to the other, panned left and and right in the case of the 1st 2 UK LPs. You're actually seriously suggesting that their 4-track recordings are done using 2 2-track machines? Get a grip, man.

It was clicking or a crackling sound...glad you have a new mic. Still enjoyed your video...I have neither box. See both on ebay. Majority made in china. I'd buy the empty stereo box and buy cds separately and fill it..that way I'm getting original cds not copies

Hi, great presentation but you need to.do something with that Microphone, it sounds very cheap and takes away from the sound. The crackle and pop is annoying, very annoying actually! A new decent Mic for here😀👍

Is there a “clicking” noise on this video for everyone?

How is it cost effective to fake these box sets. It must cost them almost as much as a genuine set to produce and then sell them cheap. It's akin to filing the corners off 50p pieces to make 10p pieces.

He goes on and on and on about how he loves the stereo versions, about how you get the inlays, the fold-out covers, etc. Guess what? We used to get all that in life-size versions with vinyl Lps. You can keep your cd reissues...

You certainly did not get all of that with Beatles albums. Unless you count the 1970 Let It Be box set they only released four albums with supplemental material and gatefold jackets. The 2009 CDs have all of that material with the exception of Pepper cutouts. They also include quality essays, photos and videos. BTW CD are life size.

@@themediapreacher8154I have no interest in stereo remixes. Only Let it Be and Abbey Road are original proper stereo. For the rest the stereo mixes were done with less effort than the monos.

Thanks for this, however, it’s annoying AF that you’ve added a slight echo to your voice, for some inexplicable reason. It’s not terrible, but it’s just prevalent enough to annoy the F out of those of us in production who know how it’s done. Awful.

Clearly u wanted to buy a fake.. god knows why, but if you wanted to steal from the Beatles, u could have simply downloaded the high Rez mono files, which are floating around all over the internet. Rather than pay some crook in China. personally, I prefer the vinyl Mono box...which is a phenomenal listen.

Why buy these when you can get the originals on vinyl?
