Faiza Shaheen on the Labour Party being 'institutionally corrupt' | LBC

Lewis Goodall is joined by former Labour candidate Faiza Shaheen who was dropped by her party to understand what her plans are for the general election.
"Have you heard anything more from the Labour Party at all? Since your communication?"
'No, I mean there was something on the e-mail when they said that we're dropping you as a candidate. That was like we can understand that this will be upsetting. Here's a link to mental health resources, so that was how they signed off.'

She was being protected and promoted by Corbynistas and Momentum. Why is she so concerned about "getting another job" and in the next to breath saying "I'm an academic at LSE" and I was advising governments at the UN. There is so much more to this story than being presented by Faiza. She was warned several times by post-Corbyn Labour, but she is an ego driven self obsessed narcissist. This particular type of personality uses victim-solidarity and personal victimhood to manipulate all around. It also helps that she was called Britain's AOC, a moniker she welcomed as it also connected with her US interests. For all her bluff and bluster, the unknown, last minute Labour candidate (Tatler) came away with more votes than "I've been active here for years, I grew up here" Faiza Shaheen. What happened? Why does nothing quite add up?

Hello Jew here !! if you believe me but it is NOT antisemetic to criticise Israel,It is NOT antisemetic to even question the whole premise and basis for Israel, criticising Israel its government or how it is structured and its treatment of Palestinians is NOT antisemetic. This has to stop as this is the worst thing for Jewish people !!the worst. I am not a supporter of Israel either this goernment or previous ones,I do not support Israel as an entity,aI do not want people harmed or killed either Israelis pr Palestinians but people should be able to question and critcise Israel and not be called antisemetic. That sketch that she liked is not a reason to dismiss her,its absolutely rediculous and its a witch hunt.

What does Lewis mean by Jon Stewart "isn't the litmus test for if this is alright"? Stewart is a Jewish comedian talking about his experience of trying to report on Israel and Palestine. So what Lewis, we shouldn't listen to this Jewish man, we should let the Labour Party be the judge of what is and isn't antisemitic? Corbyn lost two elections. FWIW, I agreed with him on many issues, including austerity and Iraq, but he was dismissive of antisemitism, which isn't mere 'nonsense' to those who are intrinsically affected, and his position on Russia is disturbing in view of its attack on Ukraine. So, it's arguable how big a loss he is.

@@robinj6137 I've criticised the OP, but there is an alternative argument which says that the very poorest in society will not significantly benefit from a Starmer government relative to a (hypothetically) more left-wing government. Look at the cap on child benefit, for example. How does that benefit the poorest members of society? Now, I'm rational and pragmatic enough to still appreciate that a Labour government is inifinitely superior for society's poorest than a Tory one, but it's glib to dismiss criticisms from the left, particularly the charge that the present Labour PLP is a sanitised version of the Tories on policies that would truly benefit the poorest in society.

How is it that Faiza Shaheen was selected by her local candidate process (for the current electoral cycle) in July 2022, has canvassed since then and yet was refused endorsement by the NEC in late May 2024? According to Faiza, the NEC relied on adverse historical Twitter/X conduct and if that’s the case why has this process taken 22 months to resolve? There’s something fundamentally devoid of due process here considering the work that Faiza has done to turn a Tory strong seat to a marginal.

Gobsmacked Starmer went into politics and worst when he joined Labour and stood side by side with Corbyn. Cause the Starmer I saw in Whitehall was anything but Labour centric and more of an establishment figure. More will come to light when PM Starmer starts making key public appointments of certain figures currently in the shadows and helped him get to this position.

Something is definitely rotten in the labout party as in all the parties no doubt ..hopefully not the Greens but the internal politicking and backstabbing and infighting etc that goes on is disgusting and its no way to run political parties. No wonder we get the politics we get if this is how they behave...who would want to be an MP unless you are a psychopath who doesn't care about peoples feelings.

I'm unsure it's feasible to highlight the point of Starmer "over correcting" antisemitism when 2 white Labour MPs made highly antisemitic posts/comments, and were effectively given a light slap on the wrist. It's clear this "over correction" only exists for left-wing, POC candidates, who have ties to the Palestine cause. Yet another reason to take my vote elsewhere - I hope the remaining lefties in Labour finally leave the ship that's veering towards the right at an alarming pace before austerity part 3 is launched.

Just saying the words "Israel lobby", a lobby group that exists, elicited a reaction from Lewis saying that the mention of something that exists is 'problematic'. If you say the words, the 'Saudi lobby', are you islamophobic? Then, he glosses over the mention of the very thorough Ford Report which highlighted how the issue of anti-semitism was highly weopanised and exaggerated for factional reasons within Labour. And he is supposed to be one of the better journalists.

In 2023, her first book, Know Your Place, was published. Shaheen was again selected by her local party in 2022 to stand for Chingford and Woodford Green, but was deselected after the July 2024 election was announced in late May due to the nature of historical social media posts she had liked. On 4 June 2024, Shaheen resigned from the Labour Party. On 5 June, she announced that she was standing as an independent candidate for the constituency.

I am Canadian and have limited understanding of your politics. But as an outsider, I am impressed with this lady both in what she is saying and in her personal demeanor. Questions around Israeli actions are always difficult as we can't seem to find an appropriate balance. Sadly the last best chance for peace died with Yitzhak Rabin in 1995; ironically, assassinated by a far right Jewish terrorist. I raise that because it demonstrates how difficult it is to have a balanced 'human' discussion on the topic. Hopefully, this lady finds a path that keeps her in the public eye as she is clearly a person with leadership potential.
