Faithfull St Level Crossing, Benalla

This is the Faithfull St level crossing in Benalla, on the North East Railway Line, with footage I took in February 2017.
This crossing has:
- Two Westinghouse Hybrid bells. The bell on the southern end is programmed to sound out after the boom gates have lowered. This bell malfunctioned in the first bit of footage I took, sounding out, and then in and out again as the boom gates lowered. This is odd, as the bell worked fine in the second bit of footage. The bell on the northern end is programmed to sound continuously until the boom gates rise.
- Westinghouse lights and cross-arms
- Safetran boom gate mechanisms with unmarked bases
This crossing has since has Magnetic Autocontrol swing gates installed for pedestrian crossing protection

This crossing still has its hybrid bells. It also now has electromagnetic gates for the pedestrian crossing. I only just moved to Benalla and live a bit over 1km from this crossing. I had to check it out myself and that's how I found that out.

Good video, I'm glad you filmed the crossing when you did. Sounds like the bell on the southern side could be dying, I've seen that happen before where the bell begins to operate intermittently before dying completely. Hopefully it can be replaced by another hybrid bell from one of the other upgraded crossings in the area.

Thanks. You're lucky you've seen it happen before! I haven't, this is the first time. They might, but I don't have my hopes up

Faithfull Street Benalla is on the Craigieburn line
That's a shame the bell is giving out, these signals were only installed in 2001 :(
