As an autobody technician of forty-five years, I was yelling at the screen when you were standing on that “aluminum” hood on that Ford of yours. Please don’t stand on that hood, it will dent very easily, and probably already has. I love you guys, and as you know I have followed your trips for a while now, just trying to save you money and aggravation. Keep the great videos coming.
@bigtruckbigtravels

Thanks, Gary for the info. I'm pretty careful where I stand and have not dented the hood. I try to stand on the edges where there is some reinforcements but we need to get an extension pole to wash that area. A clean front is not worth a dent in the hood. Appreciate the heads up.

#134👍......when you got the Jeep after what, eleven days you said, the song "Reunited" came on in my head lol. Cool paddle boat ride but a bit busy for me. But hey, you're in a big city now. I really liked the Auto Museum. That was unexpected but greatly appreciated! Also glad you lost a few pounds........of mud!

I think our fuel mileage increased by several miles per gallon after I washed the mud off! The boat was busy but they handled it really well. That's funny on the song selection.

Another great video. I was watching the hitching up of Artemis and wanted to pass a tip along to you. Label each key so you know which lock it goes into. This helps a lot if the towed vehicle is on fire and you are looking to disconnect the RV from the towed vehicle. That way you are not fumbling around trying to find the correct key when you are trying to unhitch. We learned this from personal experience. This is not a joke.

On the old electric car, Baker electric made cars and trucks for the Whitehouse, the trucks were 4 wheel steer and the bed was on a lift so it could line up with any dock. Hope you are still having fun be safe. That truck with the big massive tires look up LeTourneau's Land Trains some time if you want to know more about them.

great video and you were right about the mud on the steps. I bet the run off made the rivers run dark for a few days after the washing you gave it. We also have a gold dredge in the mountains out of Baker city in eastern Oregon. have been to it many times. When in Phoenix AZ visiting my son we went to museum and they had gold panning for you .They had a big tub of dirt and you just took what you want to pan. Well, you know gold settles, so I dug down and panned a good sum of gold. I used a snuff bottle and gave the gold to a guy and his little boys and told the guy to use it for their college. I must have given them $1K of gold. Your videos sure bring back a lot of memories for me

I'm sorry but I have to comment on this video, since I told you all in the last video about Ryan in the gray Sprinter Van. I was watching one of his videos yesterday, he was in Fairbanks, in fact he was at the same carwash, in the same bay were you all washed your RV. Watching this video I got a big kick out of thinking of Ryan's video were he couldn't use that stall until the owner had to spray it out because the previous people who used it made such a muddy mess, I thought it could've been you all with all that dirt and mud you all had, I got a good laugh thinking it could've been you all, being in such a small world. Also the airplane David didn't seem to know why it was there. Mr. Ryan was also there on his way to swim in the hot springs, he said that plane was actually a weather vain. In closing Sandra said it was your last day in Fairbanks. In Ryan's video yesterday he was still in Fairbanks for two more days before heading to Anchorage.

Thank you so very much for your videos😊

Thank you very much. The base cover is from Topeak. Sondra modified them to encase the bikes completely with velcro to seal the bottom. They work great and very little gets inside them. The only issue is some tearing and wearing from the bike rack but we are also going on some bumpy roads! Glad you're along on the journey and getting out on your own too!

Thank you, Ronald. There can be a lot of mosquitoes depending on where you are but generally they are most everywhere in Alaska. Still it's a beautiful state and a fun way to spend a summer. You guys are awesome 👏, make a great team & luv your videos . Very educational for those of us who are looking 👀 to purchase an RV. My wife & I are torn between getting a pre owned 36 ft Country Coach & a 32 ft Thor like you guys have now ….😮 any suggestions being that there is no W/D in the Thor vs one on the Class A Country Coach ? How’s the noise level in your cab traveling ? My wife & I test drove a Renegade Classic a few years ago & it was kinda of loud ? ? Safe travels to you guys & looking forward to more of your wonderful videos & adventures. 👍⚾️

Thanks, Bob. The Country Coach is a good quality DP Class A from what I understand. Probably air suspension so the ride will be better. The Thor is fairly quiet but the Class A would be quieter. You may be more comfortable in the Class A as well. Pre-owned may have all the kinks worked out...but did they take care of it? I won't lie, Sondra misses the W/D this summer in the Class C!

Do you have any suggestions of places to stay or what to see at that point heading into Alaska? We also thought about going North to Dawson City first and coming in Top of the World Highway. I believe both ways will be beautiful. Any suggestions? Also my husband wants to know where you bought your hitch that has 4 holders? Hey Christine- In Whitehorse, Canadian Superstore (not Walmart). Miles Canyon is cool to see too. Hi-Country RV or Pioneer Park are a few places to stay. It's a GenY hitch. You can get it through them or from our Amazon store (link below). We love Dawson City and it's very cool to cross the Yukon on the ferry; however, if it's not a beautiful day then Top of the World will not be very spectacular (it's going to be either dusty or muddy) but it does avoid Destruction Bay. Both are beautiful drives. I think the drive through Destruction Bay is prettier but the roads are worse. If you drive through Destruction Bay then Congdon Creek Provincial Park is nice with sites on Kluane Lake (if they are available). www.amazon.com/shop/bigtruckbigtravels?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_aipsfshop_aipsfbigtruckbigtravels_QCP5428MJTFRAPRCJTZS

Hey Patrick, we looked at all of them and decided on the Thor for the following: cost, 4x4, floor plan layout, 32 feet in length and F550 chassis with 6.7L engine. This one hit all of our requirements. The negative was Thor. Lol. We weren't crazy about getting a Thor but so far it's been pretty good. Some minor slide issues we've addressed and a few other mods. The biggest negative we've discovered on this trip is the suspension is VERY stiff and doesn't handle washboard roads at all.

Hi and thanks for watching. We're averaging around 9.5- 10 mpg for the trip so far. Prudhoe Bay was a little over 10 mpg but we were driving about 20 mph too! That's with towing our 4 door Jeep Wrangler. The Class C is nice and 32 feet fits virtually everywhere. We're not crazy about flat towing the Jeep because we can't back up. Otherwise, it's been a great experience using the Class C.

Next time up to Alaska, we're going to take our Big Rig up the Dalton. Semi-trucks drive it every day. BUT... we're going to take it slow, pull over to almost a stop for oncoming trucks/vehicles and watch the weather. We won't attempt Atigun Pass if it's wet. Don't be in a hurry. Obviously, you haven't watched a lot of our video's. We're enjoying Alaska a lot and love the history. We understand about the role air transportation plays in Alaska...you can see it everyday with all the "bush" planes flying about. What was curious to us is "why that plane on that pedestal?" Was that particular plane significant to Chena Hot Springs? Did it deliver supplies regularly until the road was built? Why was it there at Chena? There was no description, no explanation. Whitehorse, Yukon has one at the airport but they have a description on a plaque stating the significance of that particular plane.

Another great video. I was watching the hitching up of Artemis and wanted to pass a tip along to you. Label each key so you know which lock it goes into. This helps a lot if the towed vehicle is on fire and you are looking to disconnect the RV from the towed vehicle. You all should look into boondocking in Petersville, it’s just up the road from Talkeetna, I spent a lot of summers there gold mining, hunting and riding ATVs. It’s public/blm land so you just find a spot and camp. Go right at the forks roadhouse and drive a couple miles out and there’s some great spots and Denali views.

I looked at Petersville road, Michael but we ran out of time in the area. It will have to be another visit but I've heard it's a nice area to boondock.
great video and you were right about the mud on the steps.

That was so smart to dig to the bottom. Not a lot of people realize how heavy gold is relative to other metals and materials. Your "gift" to the family was very thoughtful as well. Nice. Glad it brought back good memories for you.
In Fox, Alaska is a great restaurant called the Turtle Club. It has the best Prime Rib and the best salad bar that I have ever been to. Three long tables of salad fixings, great food. Now I'm hungry thinking about it. Cleaning that rig must have taken at least an hour and lots of money$$$$$$

That's pretty funny, it's such a small world. It's amazing how different people in similar circumstances can be drawn to the same activities/areas. I don't think it was our mud....but then it could have been! We did have a lot of it. LOL. Thanks for the comment.

Your videos are excellent! Did you consider a Renegade or other motorhome before you decided on the Thor Magnitude? What’s your pros and cons on this motorhome?
@bigtruckbigtravels
11 ай бұрын
Hey Patrick, we looked at all of them and decided on the Thor for the following: cost, 4x4, floor plan layout, 32 feet in length and F550 chassis with 6.7L engine. This one hit all of our requirements. The negative was Thor. Lol. We weren't crazy about getting a Thor but so far it's been pretty good. Some minor slide issues we've addressed and a few other mods. The biggest negative we've discovered on this trip is the suspension is VERY stiff and doesn't handle washboard roads at all.
Very nice journey! Did you fee the recent earthquake around the coast? Maybe you’ve left already. Did you cash in the gold or keep them?

Enjoy watching your videos. My husband and I are planning on doing this trip when he retires in a couple of years. We're contemplating trading our travel trailer for a super C. @bigtruckbigtravels

Fairbanks is cool. Considering where it is there is alot to do there. One day I'm going to drive the Dalton. But, I have a 45ft luxury bus and I don't want to give up the comfort of my home. Since you've driven the road what is your opinion on driving a Newell motorcoach on the Dalton?

Next time up to Alaska, we're going to take our Big Rig up the Dalton. Semi-trucks drive it every day. BUT... we're going to take it slow, pull over to almost a stop for oncoming trucks/vehicles and watch the weather. We won't attempt Atigun Pass if it's wet. Don't be in a hurry. And it will get very dirty.

You can do the research but there were even better electric cars 100 years ago, maybe more, can’t recall dates.
