I’m a southern man born and raised if it isn’t country. Blues music and classic rock who are you George is a icon in the south
He released this song in the Mid 80s and has ended every show since with this song. I seen him once in concert and when this song started I cried because I knew it was the last song for the show.

I’m not sure if you know, but he would perform at the Houston livestock and rodeo since 1980?! When he would end his show with this song they would bring out his horse and ride around the arena shaking hands and waving at his fans! Great show, great performer! Yes, King George is always a great pick! Almost always at his concerts before he walked off stage he would throw his Stetson hat into the crowd! Another fun fact, he was actually a team cattle roper with brother. Every year he would team rope with his brother at the Team Cattle Roping Championship in Kingsville Texas! And of course a show after!! The list goes on! He’s my favorite country artist!
The movie made about himself is Pure Country, he is here in America, just not Texas, the King of Country Music!!
Good day too you Half Pint & everyone! One of my absolute favorite George Strait songs ever right behind Baby's Gotten Good at Goodbye!!! There's lyrics in this song that bring tears to my eyes also! I am a big George strait fan been to 8 of his concerts
The first few concerts that George Strait did at the Ector County Coliseum in Odessa, Texas, they had chairs set up on the floor area where the rodeos, hockey games, Monster Truck events, etc. took place. They left about 1/3 of the floor at the back of that area clear of chairs so that people could dance, in homage to George Strait and The Ace In The Hole Band’s beginnings playing in honky tonks across Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma. Believe me, a lot of couples took advantage of the opportunity! Imagine an evening of dancing with George Strait & band providing the music!!

@@DGMansell Those concerts just as much a dance as they were a concert. I took my then 70 year old mother to one of his concerts there as her birthday present. We sat in the stands at the back of the Coliseum, front row, dead center for her comfort. It was her first concert ever. I had a pair of mini binoculars so she could get a closeup look……Never got them back and didn’t ask for them! 🤣

My sister and Brother in Law saw George in concert in Dallas Texas back in 2014 and they said it was the best concert they've ever been to. I was also able to watch the concert later on CMT here in the states and it was the best concert I've watched in a long time. The movie is called Pure Country and this song wasn't in it that was a different song.
Pure Country is one of my absolute favorite movies! I grew up with that movie.
I live in Houston. We celebrate George here. A staple in Texas.
Another George strait song that is awesome
This is a teaching opportunity that I would like to exploit. Mr. Strait, like myself, is from south Texas and the real thing in that he, too, was raised on a cattle ranch and is not, as the saying goes, "All hat and no cattle." It is important to mention at this point that he had been singing in dance halls in and around Texas for years before having his first recording published and released in 1981. Prior to that time, there had been on the radio, "Country and Western" music and there were "C&W" clubs and dance halls too. Great vocalists from Texas like Dan Seals, Paul Davis and elsewhere, including Michael Martin Murphey, were told to "...loose the hat!" They did and experienced success, in the 1970s, as vocalists singing popular romantic songs with orchestrations not unlike modern interpretations of compositions for Sinatra, Martin, Como and Andy Williams of the 50s and 60s. Thus, Western music was relegated to the trash heap of modern radio played music. It as about 1980 when all that changed...in a big way! Radio stations no longer played "Western" music like Marty Robbins great western hits like "Saddle Tramp," "Tumblin' Tumble Weeds" or "El Paso." Radio stations stopped calling themselves "Country and Western" but simply "Country music stations." However, this movement which reportedly began in Nashville, disenfranchised Texas artists like Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and more and together they began what became known as the "Outlaw Country" music movement. They refused to be what the Nashville publishers wanted of them and went on to play music they enjoyed and that praised Texas and the south west. They also praised their predecessors of the 40s and 50s including Ernest Tubb and Bob Wills who were famous for "Western Swing" which was dance music so popular in all over Texas and nearby states. At the start of the 1980s, those artists who had previously put away their hats, put them back on and went on to have great success in Country music and with more than a few Western music songs including Dan Seals who, with his hat on, recorded hits like "Meet me in Montana" with the beautiful and talented Marie Osmond and "Everything that Glitters in Not Gold" and the retro sounding dance song, "Bop!" Paul Davis recorded an album of western hits and Michael Martin Murphey who had recorded a beautifully orchestrated song entitled "Wildfire!" which had been a popular music hit in the late 1970s leveraged that success to build a truly great western music singing and touring career with several western music hits including, "Tie Knots in the Devil's Tail," "Red River Valley" and the fun song "Cowboy Logic." It is my opinion that the unknown singer from south Texas named George Strait, who refused to "....loose the hat" and who had his first country music hit in 1981, served as the catalyst for these older artists to express more fully themselves and opened doors for a whole new set of artists including Garth Brooks, Mark Chesnutt, Clint Black, Toby Keith and Alan Jackson, all of them wearing hats! All of these artists went on to have many great country music hits and many of them included in their albums at least one classic western music hit including George Strait who, early in his career, recorded "Amarillo by Morning" which was another western swing song popular in the dance halls. Singing in Spanish went away in 1980 with Western music where it had been previously appreciated. Without a radio venue, Tejano artists sought, like Willie and Waylon, to publish their own music and charter their own radio stations with "Tejano" music. Many singing artists from Texas have had great success in Country and Western music but only a few had success singing in Spanish which includes Marty Robbins, Freddy Fender, Johnny Rodriguez, Emilio Navaira and George Strait who sang the classic Mexican romantic song, "El Rey" with beautifully articulated Spanish. Thus, Mr. Strait, who now resides outside San Antonio, did much more than have more number one hits than any other American recording artist, more than 60, he helped to preserve Western music and Western Muisc sung in Spanish as well. I encourage you to continue this journey into country AND western music and also enjoy some "Cajun" music from our good neighbors in Louisiana and "Tejano" music from my relatives in south Texas, neighbors with Mr. Strait. It is not an understatement to say that Mr. Strait is the most successful and influential country music and western music singing artist of the 20th century and more.
One of my favorite George Strait songs. 80's George Strait is the best.
Hi Gitana, George Strait is one of the great ones in Country Music. Gitana you my friend are a survivor after all of the things you have been through. You gave me faith and courage to get through the things I've went through and I thank you, your family and all of the Gitanos out there for that. Like I keep saying, we are all family and we need to stick together.
Great reaction! Welcome back! Angel-ina.. Fantastic song!.... I believe she's just talkin about love in general!... What a Genius to keep us on our toes, and wanting more and more!! She's amazing! love her.. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
One of the benefits of being as old as I am is that I got to see, in concert, Elvis at the end of his career and George Strait at the beginning of his. Living in the San Antonio area, I was blessed to see GS at many dance halls locally as he was coming up. I remember seeing him at Texas Dance Hall, just north of San Antonio. By then nobody could dance as the dance floor, at the foot of the stage, was filled with people standing shoulder to shoulder just listening in awe!!!
I had the privilege to see George in his final tour concert at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX. He always played this song last every concert. It’s perfect.

Loved the video as always! This is one of my absolute favorite songs ever but it’s like a punch in the heart everytime I hear because it reminds me of my grandpa who’s passed on now but he was one of the last true cowboys I knew and when he dies this song played at his funeral and we all know he rode off into the sunset like all the cowboys did at the end of those old western movies! Love you, your channel and all the hardwork you put into this channel. Big hugs and looking forward to the next one….gotta go dry my eyes now

One of his lesser known songs which had great meaning for me at the time it was released was "Today, My World Slipped Away." Another, prior to that was "The Man in Love with You." Yes, his songs were the soundtrack of my young life also. Today, I am only a few years younger than Mr. Strait, and I, like him, am also from south Texas.
This was the last song played when we laid my dad to rest. It’s hard for me to listen to still and that was almost 9 years ago.

She'll leave you with a smile is a great one by George.
The movie is Pure Country. So good
Pure Country was the movie you were talking about.
Goodbyes suck!! I agree. Great reaction.
I really like George strait. He is a family man. He and his wife, Norma have been married for almost 561 years. He has a son with whom he is close. He lost his daughter to a car accident in 19856 at the age of 13. He had a charity rodeo every year, but I believe that he has stopped participating in team roping, his only event. At 70 years of age, he may be on the cautious side. Getting back to the topic, I first started to listen to (King) George in the early 1980's when my aunt brought him to my notice. She was a fan of steel guitar and fiddle /Mestern Swing music, and this is a classic example. Thank you for the varied content and well-presented commentary.
When I hear old George Strait songs it takes me back in time to my childhood. I was born in 1976 so I lived through the rise of George. Every summer we would go camping at Garner State Park near Uvalde Texas. There was a pavilion there overlooking the Frio river, and there was almost always a George Strait song playing. A very peaceful time.
This song take me back 25 years to a girl that I had a chance to be with. I passed her up and I regret it. It tears away at me today. 😞
Great reaction, Lil Sister. I felt it too! Love y'all! Hug the kids for me and say hi to Donovan.

George Strait is the KING of cowboy music.
Lol, so my Texas high school mascot was a cowboy and this song was our senior song or whatever. As much as I love George Strait I thought that was cheesy. BUT of course the older you get you look back on memories like that and smile.
KING GEORGE!!!
I looove this song.. Brooks and Dunn did a great live performance of this a few years back, during a show in which they were honoring George Strait. I highly recommend hearing that. Arguably my favorite version, though there's nothing structurally different about it. I just like the their vocals on it.
If it's George Strait. We like it. He is one of the few artists out there that has never ever ever released anything lame. More number one hits than any artist in any genre of music in all of human history.
It was pure country
