Unfortunately a friend of mine went to school in Baltimore, MD. He dropped out at 18, got in trouble with the law, and thrown in prison. He spent a few years in there, but got his GED. Ironically he received a better education while in prison.

That's because they both wanted to learn after they realized they needed an education. They could've gotten an education at school but more than likely they chose to bullshit around instead of learning.

This is some of the best journalism I've seen in a major TV market, by far. The reporter, Chris Pabst should receive the Journalist of the Year in the State of Maryland. I couldn't believe how corrupt, the City of Baltimore, Maryland really is. I feel for these parents, and, their children, who have suffered far too long. These government officials in the City of Baltimore, should be thrown in The Slammer. Kudos to Chris, and, the news team at WBFF-TV, Fox 45, Baltimore, Maryland, the Fox affiliated station, and, to its parent company, Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc. Thanks!

I was born and raised in Baltimore. Thankfully I got out! This brings tears to my eyes! The fact that this video doesn't have many views thus far tells me that not enough people care! Who's going to take care of the kids!!!!??? The government? The teachers? The parents? All hold responsibility for the current state of the children! I'm one person! If there was something I could do to make a substantial change I would! Thank you for exposing this corruption! I see you!

@Keith Kitchen Black people should be voting FOR School Choice. The School system in Baltimore ran by black democrats Married to the system that's been Miseducating the negro for decades. 15k a year per child right? The parents have no control over the education. How about giving the parent 10k towards whatever education system they choose..private school private tutor etc.. State would still save 5k per child that chooses to go private over public.

@Keith Kitchen We know who push the single parent home narrative as a good one and who believes a nuclear family is best. The public school system isn't set up for mass of undisciplined unmotivated kids. It's was set up based on the family model .

I would love to be a fly on the wall in some of those classrooms. If you think you could actually achieve academic goals in that brutal environment, then I pray you give it a go. It is a war zone in almost every Baltimore City school. Everyone is either the predator or the prey. Sad.

How can a child perform in a system where all of the odds are against them. They’re not in a county school where the children have teachers who are caring and motivating and the child is expected to succeed. Black parents need to be proactive in educating their own children, and stop depending solely on the school system.

Philadelphian here: Long story short, same here (and every other big city or areas with high poor and nonwhite populations.) As an obligation of employment/ appointment/ election, all school officials and board members should have to enroll their own kids into the schools they oversee. Then, everybody has skin in the game. That’s usually when the game changes a little.

I grew up in Baltimore in the 90s, and to be honest, if all we do is blame the schools you're lying to yourself. Between Reganomics, apathetic school officials, and parents (most of them mothers) who care more about looking good graduating than being able to read, the kids are bound to fail. After we blame everyone else, what accountability does the individual take? People tell themselves that math and reading are not important. It's easy to get away with it in a city that has not valued education since the 80s. I knew so many peers and elders who could not read, write, or do math, and they didn't care. If your child can not read, write, or do arithmetic, it's the parent's fault.

Believe it or not the rappers previously used to have more positive messages but the record producers and record companies no longer wanted to support any positive messages for the black community and instead preferred to push destruction for the exact reasons we are witnessing now. Just like certain artist who are truly talented will not get pushed while a no talent becomes a millionaire in a year because they were willing to do whatever the industry told them to do.

I think that's doing a huge disservice to the many teachers who do care but are bullied out of the schools by the administration, other teachers who don't give a damn, and even the kids who haven't been challenged before and don't want to change the system. It's truly appalling to see the mass exodus of individuals over the last few years who want to make a difference in the lives of our future but are told that they can't because of pressure from parents on one side and upper management on the other side who only cares about the almighty dollar, not the kids, teachers, or support staff. This country needs a real educational shakeup and some of these parents need to stop being crybabies about their little brats and let them face consequences for their actions.

For the entire time he was in highschool you also were not involved 🤷🏽‍♀️ The mom who has a son with total physical and mental disabilities is mad her son will not become a mechanic? Poorly designed system. There should be a deadline to enter student grades in the system , after the deadline , those records cannot be altered in any shape or form!

As a tax payer, I find myself asking, "Why, for the love of God, do we continue to pay for public schools?" They're failing our kids. Teacher unions have enormous power to thwart common sense education reform all while doing everything to prevent bad teachers from being fired. The system cannot be fixed. Education needs to be privatized.

they can claim its bad schools and poverty all you want, but in the poorest white town disregarding amish ones, it has 97% literacy, but black people in the richest areas have 89% so

I use to live in a very rural, small town in Ohio. Predominantly white. I worked in a Social Services capacity and I can vouch that most of the people on government assistance were white. They sat on there porches all day chewing tobacco, smoking weed and drinking Bud Ice. Blacks have been incorrectly stereotyped. There are lazy white and black people. And just where did you get your data from regarding the percentages of blacks and whites literacy levels because, I don’t believe it.

Lots of smaller cities are great. Lots of red cities are great places to live and visit. It's the liberal ran cities that are public toilets.

MD’s Republican governor Larry Hogan is a sociopath. Imagine the worst parts of both Clinton and Bush, put them together: you get Hogan. He’s blocked and gutted education reform efforts at every turn possible to keep state taxes low. He avoids the city like the plague. He didn’t need Bmore or Bmore County vote to win the state election twice. He’s also extremely unethical. The New Republic’s article “The Most Popular Crook in America” outlines and sources a lot of great reporting.
