I'm so sorry for all the turmoil you've been thru with your health... I totally agree with being your own advocate, but even then, it can be tough to get your points taken seriously. Im in awe that you are able to work and go to school while going thru all of this. Your story sounds so much like mine. I struggled with my health while in nursing school, graduated, worked for maybe 2 years before having to go on disability, and will soon have an ostomy (which I've put off for far too long bc of fear, the unknowns, and negative past experiences) bc of eds related prolapses, structural/functional issues, and nerve damage. My heart goes out to you and you're in my thoughts and prayers. ❤

You are absolutely amazing. I truly appreciate and admire you and your greatness and success. Thank you for giving your time, personal experience and videos. You are a lion, and I can't wait to see all that you have yet to achieve! Sending strength and warmest wishes, RN (Chicago nursing school graduate and now Honolulu resident)

*My brother was recently diagnosed with UC, and is to undergo a proctocolectomy in three weeks. I wanted to show him some informative videos regarding stoma care, diet, etc...then I stumbled across your channel! What a wonderful source of information and inspiration for him! Thank-you :) On an unrelated note I'm a R.N. From what I see you will be an incredible nurse. Once you graduate, which I know you will, you should look into enterostomal therapy! You would Rock! God bless, and good luck with that damn NCLEX :)*

Thank you for this. I am just beginning my journey on trying to figure out what is wrong with me. I had a combo Nissen's/Hernia repair in June of 17 (Last June as of when I am typing this). I am a petroleum engineer and am pretty scientific but I am not a medical person like you are. I have a lot of 'theories' (lol) but feel VERY alone and on my own. Thank you for the words "be your own advocate" as that is SPOT ON! I am a US Marine Combat Veteran who developed my GERD in-country by not drinking enough water and the dehydrated food leeching water out of the pylorus (or so I am told ..lol again... I have a lot of theories based on what this non-medical person has been told by a lot of people) and am having to deal with a single surgeon from the Houston VA. I've tried to go Private at my local expert out of Houston Methodist but he basically ignored my supplied scans (I have access to all of my tests and results out of the VA thanks to digitizing and more funding) and referred me (after a simple sonogram) to another CT Scan with contrast...lol yeah no... sounds like he has a buddy in the CT biz.I KNOW what is happening! "Thank god I'm a nursing student and can think that way" your words are amazing... I have learned along the way so much... I am JUST NOW thinking "I wonder what is on KZread?" and you are one of the first stories I have listened to. I don't know where you are on your walk now but, I hope that you are gaining strength from sharing. I haven't shared yet but as I progress (Back-story: I THINK my 'Fund' is fine as I am at the tail end of every test under the sun...I THINK (theory again! lol) that the raised stomach has caused TOO MUCH of an angle (below the pylorus and where the Duodenum turns left) and food is 'getting stuck' there.....as my only relief comes with water and posturing (some call it writing lol) in pain on the ground and stretching out) down the testing gamut, (VA is now beginning to do a workup for 'Intestinal bacterial overgrowth'...lol 'ok doc'...I mean... I am at her mercy right? I can't afford all of this tx on my own so I have to follow her!...your words in this vid about things transpiring that caused you to 'lose faith' in your doc are really refreshing... truly...thank you) I think I will also begin to share but wanted to see how someone else did it first. So, thank you, safe travels on your journey to getting better! I will now go look at your other stuff but wanted to say thanks here as this is my first foothold into LISTENING to what others had to say.-Mark F,Houston TX

I will be 50 in November. I've had 3 of these procedures in the past 10 years. 1st one was a Nissen. 2nd one was a Nissen/hiatal hernia and the 3rd was a nissen/hiatal hernia/getting the stomach detached from the scar tissue that was connecting it to the liver. One bad surgery after another and with a different surgeon each time. Just yesterday I had a barium swallow test and I am scheduled for an EGD and manometry. Can you recommend some questions to ask my new surgeon after this testing is completed? You are in a very unique position to answer this question for me and I appreciate any help you can give me to be my own advocate.

How are you doing now? Im sorry you are going through this. From all the research i have been doing, the esophageal mamometry test if very important because if you have (iem) ineffective motility the full nissen is not recommended because of the high rish of dysphagia. Im still learning though Im sorry the surgeon did it too tight. Would it be too much to ask you which surgeon it was so i dont go to him? 😫😆 Im asking bc im in Chicago too. That is absolutely awful he didn't check your test results initially unreal

Sorry to hear that! Sounds like you’re one of the very few that had constant dysphasia after the surgery. From all the studies shown and the knowledge from a GI that deals with motility has said that 270° or 360° wraps don’t disturb preoperative ineffective motility, but will increase if not return esophageal motility in 95% of patients. Hope all is well!

You're me. I have EDS, with severe dysmotility from esophagus to anus and my sister and I both have prolapse and my LES also doesn't close. I found you because I was looking for info on pelvic floor PT and EDS. I'm feeding tube and IV catheter dependent, have a bachelors degree in library science, am 29 and live in CT. I do go to the EDS clinic in Baltimore though every year and a half. I hope you see this...and please know you're not the only one out there that has all the weirdest and sometimes grossest parts of EDS 💜

Better stay with Gerd and PPI than nissen surgery. I regret now. After two months of hell, i cannot burp, cannot vomit, i lost 10 kg in one month, i feel horrible after surgery, bloating, gas, all life is upsite down. I cannot eat normal without bloating. Nissen procedure it is not for everyone. You must to be strong mental to made this.

I have GERD and esophagitis grade A and I am definitely thinking about the nissen funduplication. Taking 3 pills a day is very harmful for your health. In the years you will suffer from immune problems, fracture of the spine or clavicle and problems from not eating calcium and b12 well. I've heard that this surgery last 7-10 years. So i don't care doing 3 funduplication in the future (25 years) and hoping medicine will found a better cure for GERD.

I've got diagnosed with severe esophagitis + stricture because of very erosive gerd with a big hiatal hernia, and I was only 8 years old lmao.. now i'm 19 and i've been taking PPI for 11 years and it actually helps for symptoms but my situation got worse and worse over the years and now i have Barrett's esophagus, without dysplasia tho. Thought to do the surgery but now i actually scared lol it sounds like very painful and discomfort

From the video I understand that your manometry showed very bad esophageal motility, but have you had any swallowing issues or something like that before this test? Like i am interested if it’s possible to have very bad motility without clinical symptoms.
