Your old tent is repairable. Use a piece of canvas to cover that tear. It should be 3 inches in each direction from the tear. Apply a generous layer of henry construction adhesive to the inner and outer edges of the patch and press it well in place on the outside. Its heat resistant, flexible, waterproof, and sticks to everything.

Thanks Snakeclaw, I'll have find it.
If your leaving a canvas tent up for any length of time, invest in a vinyl cover/rain fly

As your friend at My Self Reliance figures out, whatever size you think you want just double it and add a walk in porch and screened deck. You will be in heaven. You get one chance to do the foundation right. Can’t wait to watch the series.

Very exciting news! I cant wait to follow along!
I hear you about the canvas issues. I had my share of problems. I went with a Sierra Designs Mountain Tarp Tipi that I sewed in a silicone stove jack. It was killer. Not sure why I sold it. I kick myself for letting it go. 70D Nylon. 5 lbs. Fast and easy setup. A bit of sag and poor heat retention though. However, I just bought a Luxe Megahorn XL in white to replace it. Excellent so far. Way better heat retention. We will see how it holds up.
The small tent, you need to loosen it. And sew it. Put heat tape on both side where the seams are. It's not a lost. You didn't live in it that much.

Hi there. Any other tips and tricks that you might suggest? Just bought my first one and am putting a wood stove in it. You seem to know what you are doing?
@JesusSaves86AB

@@SnozBerryQueen You can buy silicone/fiberglass stove jacks very cheap, alternatively you can use an aluminum baking sheet or two. We will be buying our first canvas tent this year and I will be reinforcing the stove jack immediately with a baking sheet and extra fiberglass. It seems to be the typical fault point on these tents and is easier to prevent than repair.
This is exciting news! Can't wait to see things develop! Pretty country! Best of luck to you! Those boys will be great help I'm sure and the girls will help as well! The dogs can watch and play!
Congrats on the property Scott; good luck on the cabin build.

I have an Atuk that has been set up for 2 years now. No problem. I had a Woods that was set up for 5 years. It finally ripped due to a heavy snow BUT it was 20 years old. I am nervous re cord wood/stack wall building. Do your research. Thanks for the videos. Congrats on the land. There is nothing better than owning your own piece of bush.
CONGRATULATIONS SCOTT!!! Great news of ur new playground!! That is awesome!! Definitely gonna watch whatever u come up with on ur channel... Congrats again!!
Really looking forward to the new cabin series / next chapter of your KZread channel!
Cordwood cabin!!!!!:) Awesome news, love the cordwood structures. Congratulations, can't wait to see what you build while having fun doing it.
Wow! Pretty huge news there! It'd be fantastic to has some land to do just whatever with like that. Wish you the best & look forward to seeing the progress!
It's not winter that kills the tents but UV from the sun. My 10x12 prospector lasted 20 years and last year was the final for it. Never leave the stove pipe in when you leave is first advise, the stove jack in that tent was not of thick construction and I can see why it failed, silicone was not thick enough. I have an 5 man arctic bell tent that withstood a nasty storm last year without fail. The adage you get what you pay for sometimes is very much true, with snow, rain and ice storms here in the North, trees barely survive, let alone a tent. I left my prospector up 2 years straight and summers killed it......cheers Fred

Best of luck to you. Hope this turns into a living dream come true. I will be watching !
That's awesome Scott! Looking forward to the build. Maybe some inspiration to do one with my kids too :)
I partially agree with you but please remember: Nothing is weather proof, repair your tent sir, it’s good for many years to come, I love your words of wisdom and family commitment. Best of luck.
Congratulations and good luck!
Awesome!
Congrats.. well deserved!
Canvas tents that don’t have an internal frame don’t last very long if you leave it up for months. Especially in the winter time if there’s lots of snow buildup. Anyways congrats on your new land and upcoming projects.
Congratulations on the property. Looking forward to the videos.
Awesome man!!! Congrats on the man land lol. Can’t wait to see the progression of the cabin.
Sounds exciting.
Very exciting, big congrats!!
Great for you Brother!
Cabin build, 😎 cool
Awesome new Scott, So happy for you... would make a great story on My Show 😉... Dennis, Canoehound Adventures
It’s important for anyone that practices bushcraft to learn how to sew to maintain and repair their equipment. Most of us can’t just run to the store to get a new one when things start to break down.
Wow. Fantastic plans Scott. The new cabin sounds fun and nice. It will be great to follow you on this building adventure. All the best of Good Luck!! 🎇❄️☃️😀🌹🌹🎅🎅🎄🎁⛄🦃💖
Best of luck with your new project!
Try to get them into a trade. Easier school and much better pay off. They can always expand after.
