This one will be on my 'maybe someday' list. It just doesn't have anything right now that makes it stand out and hooks you in for me above many others already in this genre. Plus that price tag, I can't justify it. There are a LOT of new games this month and there are others I am far more interested in picking up towards the end of the month so will be saving my money for those.

Looks like the cow designs are based off highland cows, rather than the standard black and white cow! Those are mainly found in Scotland :D

Fully agree, there's some speculation going around of it getting a big sale pretty soon after it's release, maybe around the holidays. Harvestella had a similar response in pricing and nintendo took that route then so might do it again

Hey Pat thanks so much for doing this review. I was definitely going back and forth for a little while about if I was going to purchase this game but the price tag held me back. Listening to your review helped me decide I will get it if it goes on sale. It seems like there’s a lot of potential but wish there was more life in the npcs. If I want to dive into a life sim/farm sim/cozy game, I want to really immerse myself in the game and feel like I am part of it. Probably why I love stardew and animal crossing so much.

Preordered it a couple of weeks ago without seeing much game play. And now that I’ve seen tons of game play ready to play it tomorrow.

I preordered it. Since I only have a switch to play on and this game looks to run smoothly on it, I ordered it. I am just worried about lag later on in the game even AC lags if you decorate too much. As for the $60 I feel like it’s worth it. AC was also a $60 game and it was missing tons of content at the beginning but with the constant update it was a blast to play. Let’s see what this game will do.

There is a magic farm game called wydle flower, they have the same tool switching system, it's a really fun game too, with magic too❤ and they are only half the price of fae farm.

Loved this review!! The only time I’ve seen that automatic farming tool mechanic is in Stardew valley mobile and thinking it was so wonderful so I love this! Thanks for the review!

I have been excited for this game for a while but $60 is a bit much for me rn. I still really want it. I just started stardew valley and that game is just OK /meh to me but I LOVED Animal Crossing. I love the aesthetic here and that shops are open all day, because in stardew I never have time to explore/do tasks and go to certain shops when I want and I HATE that. Never enough time. I just want to chill. Im 37 damnit, video game time is limited enough without such stringent timelines.

non layering is a HUGE bummer, hope they fix that in the future. pre-ordered the $40 pc base copy as i couldn't justify $60 for unknown game with mystery future content

Have it pre-ordered. I have to say that the cost is comparable to ACNH and I think that ACNH was pretty lacking in content when it first came out. It was all the updates that made it eventually worth the money.

True but ACNH was already a well known and loved franchise by Nintendo. That kind of reputation merits a high price tag. I think this price will turn a lot of people away from a game they probably would have loved otherwise

@@stephanieinjulyExactly. I had no problem spending $60 on ACNH because I love the Animal Crossing series. When I heard that Fae Farm was going to be $60, I was shocked and a LOT more hesitant to buy the game.

I've got it pre-ordered (since the start of August) and cannot wait to play it, I'm kinda using this game as a way to cope with the lack of information we've gotten about fantasy life i, even if i am looking forward to it in itself I already love the game and i haven't even played it yet, but let me tell you its all im gonna play once i get it

Thanks for the rundown! I am going back and forth about this game. Originally, it was on my priority list of games to buy when they released. Now not so sure. It's not the price tag that really turns me off, it's other stuff. Like, you have to make a Phoenix Labs account just to name your character something other than your Steam or Nintendo account name. So, bam, you're on a mailing list. I love the aesthetics of the game and some of the game play mechanics are awesome. Being able to go pretty much anywhere and having automatic tools - very cool. But I have put over 3000 hours into ACNH because I love the huge number of potential villagers, the relaxed atmosphere of the game, and terraforming and decorating different islands. Yeah, it also had issues with repetitive dialog and lack of individual personalities. But Faefarm seems even worse somehow. You are right in that the town itself and the people in it seem lackluster and kind of empty. In a game with romance especially, that's a killer. I'm going to wait a bit and see what else develops before I jump I think.

I don’t like relationship games. ACNH is more my style. Laid back, and I wouldn’t want to make a Phoenix account either. What you said made so much sense.

After seeing what is in store after chapter 4, (starinsky got to beginning of Christmas 5) and also watching the FaeFarm team play, I did preorder because I know this game will last me tons of hours of play and isn't as complicated visually as StardewV, which I just can't see well enough to play for longer than 20 min. It seems they are very open to feedback and ideas to improve the game... And the devs did say there would be more than 6 relationships open once the whirlpools are dealt with.. I also think since they allow crossplay and it is between switch and pc, the price is reasonable, as that is a huge headache to make run smoothly. Can't wait til tomorrow.

I was really excited for this game, but have decided not to get it due to several little but important details such as the one-by-one item placement on those little tables to sell anything. (I don't think it was mentioned in this video).

You can still sell 40 items per night once you get the trading stall (and I think you can buy multiples of those). There's unlimited storage so no need to sell to create room, only you make money. I've never found myself needing to sell more than 40 items in one go in the game

I actually don't tend to sell that much anyway, but the 1 by 1 thing (as opposed to stacks) looks really annoying, as does the bit about crafting a bunch of seals for the mines, and the repeating dialog. It's just a bunch of little things all put together. That said, I probably will pick it up if it ever goes on sale.

I can;t wait to start playing this tomorrow. I preordered the physical game. Then I can always trade it in on another game down the road

There is so much to say about this game. I will definitely be waiting for a sale. It’s just too expensive for an indie game by unknown developers! Make a name for yourself before pricing up like companies like Nintendo. Other than that, the graphics look super cute aside from the characters that in my opinion look like children’s toys. I swear my niece has little characters that look just like them lol

You unlock market stalls that allow you to sell even more items! Still limited though

Looks fun but fighting and static NPCs is a bit off-putting. There's also so many Rune Factories on Switch too and I can only play so many fighting farming games. Definitely a wait for a sale sort of game.

I got it for 40 euro and I like it so far. I just hope they update the chatting outside of the quests so it has more personality

Preordered on Sunday Really looking forward to having something new to play.

My wife and I bought this and played it for almost 2 hours before deciding that to request a Steam refund (which must be done within 2 hours of gameplay). The game has about the worst interface I have ever encountered and even though we're both very hardcore gamers, we could not figure out how to do anything without multiple tries and much frustration. The keybinding interface does not allow us to choose the keys we normally use in all of these games, and so we were stuck having to navigate the game unnaturally. At one point I wound up in PAUSE mode and no matter what I did I could not figure out how to exit PAUSE mode. ESC did not work, Ctrl-C did not work, hitting the PAUSE button did not work, right clicking to back out did not work, nothing I tried ended the PAUSE. That's when I decided to join my wife in a refund. Too bad, the game looked promising, but omg, whoever designed the interface needs to go back to design school.

I think the cow is based off a Yak which is more popular out in Asia than here.

I think I might pass on this one. It looks cute, but doesn't seem different enough to me to justify the $60. I'm chomping at the bit for Moonstone Island tho since they set a date for the 20th of this month.

No acnh fishing was once it bites you press A and then that catches it, so you only need to press A at the correct time 😊

I bought it for PC, wish I had bought it for my switch now that I am in game. slightly disappointed with character movement. There is room for improvement in this area. Are you having trouble with the map like I am? I cant find people! lol

I think Fae Farm has a ton of more content than ACNH, actually. But, I can't justify the price regardless..

Base game is only £29.99 in the uk (steam) so I went for that one.

Originally I was excited for this game, but the $60 USD price tag as well as watching this video has changed my mind. Not worth $60 for a lackluster game. Thanks for the review!~

4:24 Fantasy cow? Don't you mean emo cow? 😂 Although Fae Farm looks super cute and I've seen a ton of people play it, I just don't think I am gonna pick it up. With Mario Wonder, Mario RPG, Luigi's Mansion, and the Peach games all coming out, I don't think spending the $60 is wise for me at the moment. Great video Pat!

Why is the FPS... seem to be ... low? Is this 30-40fps? I seem to see other Fae Farm reviews with higher FPS.

I’m not getting this game until they do an update that makes the npc's have more life to them. To me that’s kinda a dealbreaker. As well as not many romance-able characters in the beginning

I feel bad that all the Switch players only get access to the Deluxe version. On the one hand they get all the Deluxe items, on the other I wish they could have the 40 dollar Standard version cuz that’s what pushed me to buy the game. I was literally talking to a friend a couple weeks ago and said “I’d buy it if it was 40 or something, 60 is too much” and lo and behold

people talk a lot about the "big boys" sos and hm the thing is that harvest moon may be a big name but their product in recent years hasnt been worth $40 let alone $60 this game on the other hand looks very solid. i just dont think its fair to say "well THOSE games arent $60" when "those" games have been unoptimized messes with minimal content.

If you’re on the fence, wait till all the “DLC” is released. This seems like a cash grab game, and now the devs are scrambling to create new Content to justify the price. Their discord is really toxic btw.

I’m excited to Palia. However, it’s not really free. There’s micro transactions in it. Personally, I’d rather play 1 flat price w/DLC extra.

After your review, I think I'm gonna wait. I've been so excited for this game and now I feel disappointed.
