    Love the poetry of your videos and that your "reviews" are about the feeling of the camera and how it fits into your lifestyle.

    Always like a video which exposes the Rollei 35SE as the uber-camera it is. However, there is a common and significant error here and in the comments below regarding meter batteries. This comment applies to the 35SE and 35TE. All other Rollei 35 models which did not use a selenium powered meter used a meter powered by a mercury battery of 1.35 volts, and that voltage has to be closely maintained for meter accuracy. As he says, the "S" in SE stands for Sonnar. The :E: stands for electronic. This model uses an internal voltage regulator in the meter circuit. This means that any batteries with Voltage greater than 5.6 (Nearly all are 6 volt), and which can fit into the battery compartment, will power the meter at its required 5.6 volts. My personal preference is four 357 lithium button cells, as they will last for many years with normal usage. There a a variety of PX27 form silver oxide and other batteries which will fit and do as well, but they do not last as long and cost more. The SE and TE are far any away the easiest Rollei 35 models to use if you want to use the built-in meter. (Most are black, and all were made in Singapore.)

    Thank you for insight and advice, honestly I should've just stated that a battery is entirely unnecessary for using this camera, as I've been shooting it since I got it without a light meter.

    Great video - I've been shooting a Rollei 35 since I was a kid in the early '70's. My Dad bought one when they were new in the late 60's. Such a great camera. Your journey with the Rollei might be a journey of photography but like me when I was young, your journey is about self discovery. You are a gifted story teller. Thank you!

    I have the Rollei 35 made in Singapore. I will say that it can produce razor sharp images just as sharp as almost any 35mm camera. I have ran at least 30 rolls through the camera with no problems. These have very good quality lenses and are great for street photography. I really like the black finish on your camera, it makes it even better when doing street photography. Thanks for sharing!!!

    First time I have ever wished there was a more aggresive way to click the subscribe button. Emotional through this whole video, just yesterday I was gifted one of these by a family member that is knowm to hand down old/unused items to me. I had never seen this camera before that moment and it appears to be everything i have been wanting, much like yourself, something small that I can take everywhere. Thank you for this.

    👏🏼 Yes indeed. Went through this when I first got the 35 LED. Today I bid and won my Rollei 35 Se and I thought the same thing no battery. It's an awesome experience and regardless of the fear + ups/downs you are organically building a relationship with that machine. Tech has slipped into automation where as analog can still offer a painters brush for even the casual hobbyists. Thanks for sharing!

    Great video! Really enjoyed the different more artistic approach about the Rollei 35S. I also got a black one but a the older 35S. I just wanted to point out that your 35SE is in fact capable of taking batteries you can still get. The 35SE has a voltage regulator. So if you stack 4 small batteries SR/LR44 or use a PX27A should be working fine.

    I stumbled upon your channel while searching for a Rollei. Loved the vid, but the audio is kinda glitchy. Btw- if you use a modern 1.5V battery you just need to compensate +1 stop (just turn up 1 stop iso)

  • @jpoconnor5744

    @jpoconnor5744

    Жыл бұрын

    No compensation needed for the SE and TE which never used a mercury cell. All modern batteries of the correct type (PX27 or 4 “357” cells) meter correctly. These two models even have a voltage regulator. All the other variations of this camera use the PX-625, which was originally 1.35 volts. Now, using different chemistry, the voltage is 1.5, thus the metering issues.

    So beautifully put. The elitism in old white guys and the “superior” German-built editions. Such nonsense. I have tested them side-by-side and aside from the evolution of models, it’s indistinguishable to a user.
