From what I understand, this performance was before the song had been recorded in the studio, so they may have decided to alter the lyrics before recording it.

Do you know The Small Faces, with Steve Mariott singing? It's older, before Mariott quit to play in Humble Pie. Two that all should listen to are Tin Soldier and Ichycoo Park. All should know about this band. It is a find if you listen to the Album Five Guys Walk into a Bar. The Faces Anthology

Rod the mod, is one of the few singers that you can name the singer with two notes. One of the few men that had a haircut named after him. I had one. His career spanned three decades plus. Face was English slang for big man on the scene. In this era, it was normal for a couple just meeting for the first time to spend the night together.

The origin of the name Faces is that they evolved from the band Small Faces (Steve Marriott singer instead of Rod Stewart), which originated in the mother of one of the band members saying that they "all had small faces". The Small Faces were indeed smaller guys.

The Small Faces band name fit that they were all small. Most English bands of that era had members that were small and thin. The true meaning, is still slang used today and that also fit Rod and Ronnie Wood's egos. To be known as a "Face" was a big deal. Rod had been a singer since 1962 and was Jeff Beck's front man before forming his own group. Marriott had quit the band unannounced to the other three to join his buddy Frampton. The three members were then approached by Rod to join him and Woods. Marriott, later ran into trouble with John Gotti and was brought to the Raven Club by John's men for a little sit down. He owed some money and was threatened with his life. He left in tears. Marriott, who was a huge drunk fell asleep smoking in bed and burned his house down with him in it.

A reverse super group if you think about it. All members went to bigger projects. Kenny Jones to The Who, Ron Wood to the Rolling Stones, Rod Stewart and his solo stuff. RIP Ronnie Lane and Ian Mclaughlin. Have seen all in other bands. Saw Ron Wood, Kenny, and Ian in Dallas in 1992. Closest thing to a Faces reunion. Amazing show

The 70s produced the best music ever created. You can't compare the music of today with the music back then. The artist back then put there heart and soul into every verse. Id give anything to go back to that era in time. It was so much fun and just so simple. Make me sad to think it will never be that way again!

Good reaction! You mentioned Rod Stewart's Forever Young. I missed your reaction to that, I'll have to go back and find it. That's a great song too. One interesting thing about that is that Bob Dylan wrote a song "Forever Young" years earlier and the lyrics were so similar in style and phrasing that they sent Dylan a copy of the song to see if he had a problem with it before they released it. They ended up adding Dylan's name as a songwriter and splitting ownership and the royalties from the song with him!

Todays generation are too concerned about the lyrics. It comes from listening to todays Pop Music (imo). I'm a 65 year old Drummer, back then we dissected every chord of every instrument, then we would worked on the lyrics.

After Rod Stewart left the band to go solo, guitarist Ron Wood left to join the Rolling Stones (replacing Mick Taylor), and is still with the Stones nearly 50 years later. Keyboard player Ian McLagan went on to play with everyone from The Stones to Chuck Berry, and passed away in 2014 at age 69 following a stroke. Drummer Kenney Jones became the drummer for The Who after Keith Moon's death. Bassist Ronnie Lane sadly was diagnosed with MS in 1977 (although the first signs of it began to appear as early as 1974), he collaborated with many other people on various projects over the years, and passed away in 1997. All the members of the band seen in the video are members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Search for them playing "Maybe I'm Amazed" by Paul McCartney. It's a Live, rough and raunchy version. You'll like it*. Also, in this same concert Rod sang I'd rather Go Blind, a tribute to the late and great Etta James. Everyone has their favorite "want to be" singer. it's Rod for me. Listen to The Faces playing the above mentioned. People say he's just got a gravelly voice. And he does, one that can hit every Octave.

Ron wood and rod Stewart joined the small faces from Jeff Beck after Steve Marriot left who formed humble pie with Peter Frampton. The small faces changed name to just Faces. Drummer Ken Jones joined the Who after Keith moons death. Of course there is the great Ronnie lane on base. Ian mclagan on keyboards. Worked with rolling stones later. Also married Sandy Sarjeant a featured dancer an ready steady go. Known as crazy legs sandy she would create new moves which were picked up by everyone. All these guys from England were very intertwined in their careers.

Guitarist Ron Wood went to the Rolling Stones, drummer Kenny Jones went to The Who, legendary bassist Kenny Lane died too young and of course Rod Stewart.
