If you're interested in any of the products featured in today's video then check 'em out below! In before the aggressive trolls ;) : I don't hate the Facebook Portal, and I know it's primary functions are video chat and to act as a photo reel, both of which it does EXCELLENTLY and better than it's competitors, this is more about what your personal requirements are. I just think Facebook made some huge mistakes with the AI that have resulted in what seems like a bit of a beta release. For me personally the Echo Show has redeemed itself with the introduction of Netflix and that is now my picture frame of choice. I have had no issues using my Echo Show 8 to make video call to my family and friends, they all have the Alexa app installed on their phones, laptops and PC's etc, so when I connect it activates Alexa on their device, group calls too ( it could do with a better camera though). As for the sound, I have tried the Facebook Portal and Google "nesty" piece of work lol and they are far inferior to my Echo Show 8

Great video as always. My mother-in-law wanted a simple thing to plug into her TV so she could video call her son in the USA. We've tried an echo show, screen too small, we've had an android box with a camera, skype stopped working and the box could not be updated. We bought her a Facebook Portal TV and it's great. The camera is great and YES it does have Amazon Prime built in. All she has to do is say "hey portal call Alan" and it switches the TV channel and makes the video call, and if he calls she just says "hey portal answer call" and it chanes the TV channel and accepts the call. She's 74 and doesnt need a load of smart home garbage, but we haven't found a better solution for using a TV for video calling than the Portal.

It’s now possible to use a routine to send text to Alexa as if we'd said it. It’s been available as a feature for a while in the US but is now available without fanfare in the UK. When you add a routine, “Add action” gives you a new option “Customised” that allows you to enter text which is then replayed to Alexa. The only limitations is the customised action must be the last and only one in the routine. I can now add an action “Alexa, play BBC radio four extra”. Previously I could use routines to play from only Amazon-approved sources (which didn’t include BBC). As well as expanding what you can do with routines, a one-action routine is a great way to simplify commands along the lines of “Alexa, ask xxx yyy”. Thought you’d want to know if you haven’t spotted it already, Andy

Indeed, here on KZread you'll often find they list they're alternatives on Rumble and Bitchute. But as regards your point of Bitchute being "far right". The problem Big Tech is creating with their toxic cancel culture anti free speech antics is their platforms are becoming lefty echo chambers, and alternative platforms risk becoming right leaning echo chambers... We have the portal tv, it's cool to be able to make watsapp and messenger video calls through the TV (though I'm a bit paranoid so leave it unplugged when not in use), when they add zoom (which I thought they already had on standalone devices) I think it will become very popular. In the current climate, for kids home schooling, to be able to join zoom calls through the TV would help a lot of families that may not have tablets and phones for all their kids

I find it interesting that these devices are considered as a "speaker" and categorised as such... tbh I bought the Echo Show 8 a few months back and the fact it has a speaker was at the absolute bottom of the list of things I wanted from it. I just wanted a smart home device which could show my IP cameras, in my case using the Ezviz skill, and also trigger all my Alexa routines. I'll literally never use the speaker on it as its currently sat under a grands worth of Samsung Atmos sound bar and a huge TV!

New to watching the stuff on your channel, and have to say, all great stuff! The biggest complaint that I have is that I cannot get the voice shouting... "Oh The Zigbee..." out of my head! LOL! A Hue man myself, though, after watching your stuff I bought in some (oh ffs....) Zigbee Pro bulbs (120 degree) and have to say that the price difference is great, but, the speed of the bulb switching on is weird... only about 1 second, but that lack of instant on the the Hue bulbs do.... worth the extra cash?? Mmm... time will tell!! GREAT STUFF! Comment nothing to do with this video, but what the hell, you have tattooed my brain with that dam.. NOPE.. not saying it.. NO.. NO!!!! :)

So just want to mention first Gen FB portal 's speaker is in the front, which sounds better than Echo show 5/8, plus it do have usb-c port that can output to TV or speaker with certain adaptors also both echo and FB portal support zoom meeting now for video calling too. I think the thing I like about FB is the camera that can follow you around during the video call. FB and echo both can do youtube just using the browser,

@Paul, not sure what the issue is with KZread on the Echo Show? Can you elaborate? I've got an early gen Echo Show and we use KZread on it all the time. You just say "Alexa, show me KZread" and she launches a browser straight to KZread. When you want to search for something on KZread then it's a case of tapping the search field, but then you get a microphone icon you can tap and you just tell it what you want. Sure, it's not a native app, but I can watch Paul Hibbert on my Echo Show without too much trouble. Works well enough for me.

Me: Alexa, how long is a piece of string? Alexa: It is twice as long as half it's length. I am not sure Portal is worse. Portal just ignores you. Probably tilting its head like my dog does when I do something he doesn't understand.

I love the hardware aspect of the Portal but the only features that keep it afloat are WhatsApp and Messenger - those are the only reasons I have one and have bought them for family (COVID has done wonders for that market!). Thank goodness it has Alexa and the sound quality for music is perfectly fine for my old ears. It gets a lot of use and is a great addition to the kitchen but, other than WhatsApp calls, it's not being used for anything that an Echo couldn't do better. To be fair, for most of my family (and many users, I reckon) that's absolutely fine because the only things they use are WhatsApp, Messenger, and Amazon Music in a single device setup. If the Echo Show properly supported WhatsApp then I wouldn't have a Portal at all - and then I could finally add the kitchen to the Echo multi-room speaker set up! Would be nice if WhatsApp supported multiple devices properly as well...
