For me the metaverse's goal is to make us all disconnected from reality, not talking to anybody, all alone, to make us antisocial, and everything to happens from internet. With covid and studying online are one of the first steps (in my opinion). In 2020, by the time covid appeared, at the end of June, my class had to meet infront of the school so the teacher could give us the results on the exams. I felt so stressed seeing my classmates and i never felt like this before and it was after we were online for a while cuz of covid. Idk if the puberty hit hard but its still scary

To me if they wanted the metaverse to work...there needs to be a balance between the real world and the Metaverse. Though I feel like it would be really addicting to the part that the Metaverse would be normal and just the everyday life. If someone can find a way to make that balance possible it won't be as scary....and not be owned by one singular big company

It wouldn't ever go this far, the metaverse would just be something like VR-Chat or what roblox is today but with technology advancements a bit more professionality and a lot more opportunities. It's not going to replace real life anymore than social media currently does and if it does nobody is ever going to agree to use it. Ready Player One is a fictional story about the metaverse going as wrong as it possibly could, just as many other movies portray technology going terribly wrong and ending the world. It would never happen in real life.

Oh hell no, let’s say you want it right now, it would take Teslasuit - $20000 Thing that lets you smell in vr - banned by government for basically being a vape marketed to kids Thing that lets you feel heat - $2000 Omni directional treadmill - $3000 Realistic headset - $6000 Computer to run it all - $2000 Total: 33,000 It just isn’t consumer friendly and it won’t ever be. Plus all that isn’t even comparable to actual ready player one. We definitely aren’t getting a ready player one future. AR would be much better for the new internet. Vr is for gaming not much else.

The World Wide Web is not yet ripe enough for these advancements in society. There hasn’t been enough development in the Internet to negate the glaring issues and dangers of the Internet. It is too early for the Metaverse, we need to take a step back and slow down before we shoot ourselves in the foot!

You know what I consider alarming, is that the public is aware that it could be highly addictive, but will get into metaverse anyways if corporations or companies consider it an important tool to raise against competition. The employees may have to be force fully into metaverse and possibly get addictive.

another company starting their early stages of a "metaverse" is vrchat, vrchat already has a big playerbase but is mostly just for hanging out but no real constructive purpose other than that. recently they have a launched a new coding language for vrchat that will allow users to created games/experiences and publish them to vrchat. this could easily turn into a metaverse of sorts.

Growing up on the platform was such an awesome experience as a kid and honestly I’m interested to see where this will go, and I’m really glad you acknowledged how roblox often treats its developers. Probably the worst is their studio moderation because it’s sometimes very hard to get in contact with anyone about appeal when your game may get taken down by the bot moderation for incorrect and sometimes outright unfair reasons. To this day unfortunately I still cannot get my game republished because of false moderation on something I had no control over nor was I aware of. Spent every few hours of my night after work long shifts developing my game. Along with there being nobody to actually contact because nearly everything is automated from the look of it.

In Roblox, people role play school, boring jobs like financing, and a bunch of other weird stuff they could just do in real life and end up bettering themselves with. A metaverse in there that does offer something more real and valuable, booming in Roblox, ain’t a big stretch.

I don’t want the world to end up like this, notice how all of the movies you mentioned are about a dystopia.

Have you seen the batshit crazy stuff some people say when they spend enough time looking at a screen in the normal way????? A blurrier line between fiction and reality is... scary. Imagine not connecting for two days and the virtual pet you have dies, then someone would be like: "NO. YOU ARE AN ANIMAL ABUSER, YOU MONSTER" And they try to get you kicked out of your job over the virtual pet you neglected.

do you know what in this scares me the mot? How smooth, slow and natural it happens. So much that before we could realize it we probably would be dragged too deep. I would say right now with all these ideas and excuses of solutions of imaginary problems the last thing we are left with is will.

Fun fact: the Vans game was commissioned. The real developers behind it are known as The Crew. I couldn't find anything about them online, but they're most likely a small group of devs, not even out of college, that were approached by Vans and offered a large amount of currency (maybe Robux) to create a whole open-world skating game. It's kind of crazy how this group got popular enough to literally get commissioned by one of the biggest shoe companies in the world. edit: The dev group is actually called "The Gang". I have made a severe and continuous lapse in my judgement

the metaverse sounds interesting. it could be a way to have fun or be used to do useful stuff. and there is always the threat of people becoming addicted and not interacting irl anymore. i feel like it could be used to help simulate jobs for practice, or even help with new drivers who are anxious or wary of being on the road. As for the aspect of schooling in the metaverse, it could push countries to improve their way of schooling. in the United states, our education system is flawed and outdated, as I have personally experienced. Having to develop a way to teach in a new environment could push the improvement of the education system. Of course this also means that people would need access to the tech to go to school. which means either it must be made free to the public attending the schools, or there will be a divide between who can afford the virtual school, and who attends school irl. which of course creates a problem by dividing people by their wealth. Which could also create a problem in the quality of the irl schools. the quality could increase or decrease depending on the amount of money the government gives to the irl schools. In the US public education is suppose to be free, so if they decide to move public schools to the meta verse, the access to the school should also be free. Unless they just decide that the metaverse will be used for private schools or universities/colleges, which are usually schools you must pay to attend. On another note, It could also be used to connect with your friends and family that live in different parts of the world. In any case, humanity should always be wary of using anything to much, and addiction to these types of technologies is a threat. If this were to happen, humans would need to make the consious decision to not let this technology take over their life. Nothing can replace being in the real world. Personally, I feel anxious if I have not gotten outside in a while, and I feel sad if I have not seen my family and friends in a while as well. those feelings are what let me know that I could never stay inside and be in a virtual world all day every day. In my opinion, the metaverse would work best if it was constructed to be a whole new type of civilization, but living in it needs to stay only an option, so we as humans do not lose ourselves to this technology. I believe this technology should be carefully thought through, as the save ourselves from the reality of the tech dystopias displayed in fictional worlds like in the book, ready player one.

Don't really see the fear, the metaverse (if executed in the way that metaverse's are defined as) would essentially just be The Internet part 2 Facebook's metaverse is not and will never be a true metaverse as long as it's owned by Facebook. For a metaverse to be a metaverse, it has to be open source and free for public use, like say with how no one entity *owns* the internet. A lot of the fear of the metaverse as a concept just feels like boomers being scared of the dangers of the internet.

Communism is absolutely not seen as a valid ideology by the vast majority of the US. Remember half the country voted for Trump and at least half of Biden's votes were in earnest. Which socialist countries have been successful? From what I can see the likes of Venezuela are kinda in complete tatters from rampant corruption and abuse of the power socialism gives them over the economy.

I would love for something like Ready Player One to become a reality, that would be so much fun, but it definitely a terrifying prospect if one company controls it. If it ever happens in my lifetime, I want it to be open to everyone

To be hornest, during the covid 19, i had to lock up in the room for whole months and I can't even go to work. So i actually spend alot of times in the room playing roblox games with many kids and doing whatever i want to be in that game. I actually forget my real life during that month. What a moment.

As a child, I never played Roblox. Partly because I was busy with minecraft and playing with my siblings IRL but mainly because of my parents. Now, I'm thankful for them stopping me. And I still have never played Roblox (I don't plan to either).

When I was in middle school me and my friend would dress up as scorpion and subzero in Roblox and try and use different things to kill each other, to the point where one of us would pull out a fan made "nuke launcher" that would wipe out the whole map. Good times.

As a Roblox user, this isnt even close to happening unless Roblox becomes a 18+ or 13+ game since the lack of moderation with thousands and thousands of innapropiate bypassed images, while other people are posting a picture of a normal dog and getting banned.

i find it interesting how people say "there’s a certain limit that people probably shouldn’t cross when it comes to time spent on real life and digital life"(-awkward owl) not that theyre wrong but tbh humans have been doing this forever, we design houses like that, we design entire cities like that. In a way, cities where the first "metaverse", humanities escape from reality, or at least cities have become more and more like such a thing. Human history may start getting incredibly interesting, i doubt the problems of human condition will disappear if we simply make it virtual. Is there a Post-Human Condition? Also most ppl will use the metaverse to hide in a childhood-esque bubble for eternity, but what we need is people who are willing to face reality in its vast beauty and chaos to create a better future, if we all obsess over a fantasy like the metaverse, society will crumble, and in order to maintain a metaverse we need a stable and incredibly wealthy society

It's crazy to think that, someday in the future, we'll watch that video of Zuckerberg in Meta and see it like we now see videotape and LPs: a blast from the past, while we enjoy the fully developed, technologically advanced Metaverse. Just imagine your kids in 30 years going to school in VR and dating an anime waifu, staying in their room all day. Legitimately scary.

You know what this reminds me of? OZ from Summer Wars. This could be amazing, or catastrophic.

The meta verse as a concept is scary. A centralized one would be absolutely horrible, but even a decentralized one is a nightmare too. It would just end humanity as we know it since all real world innovation would stop since it can’t be applied into the meta verse. I would much rather see amazing things in the real world than see some 17 year old make some wacky alien planet. While I may be an introvert, I still can’t get over the fact that being confined to my room all day every day would become the new normal. The meta verse goes entirely against what it means to be human, and for this reason I think it should not exist

I believe that technology is here to help us, not to replace us. Your suggestions would help us evolve as a species while the meta verse hinders us. ​@@DaFrancc Nobody likes Facebook let's keep that aside. The Metaverse it self can be seen as a utopia and people to live out their dreams. Yes it can hinder our real lives but we are all going to be stuck in this solar system for the longest time anyway. We would need to develop FTL travel to make the real world any fun and colonise other stars, planets. If some of us can live out our fantasies in the Metaverse in the short lives we have right now it might be worth it. Many of us already waste hours playing games, watching entertainment and being unproductive and for just as many it could be a way to escape reality. The Metaverse will just be another place where people want to go. The reasons to dislike it are obvious but the appeal it has to many individuals is far greater than them wanting to not to use it. A corporation or a single entity owning the Metaverse shouldn't ever happen but right now looks like the most likely scenario. The best method would be decentralisation.

The fact that it’s called an “experience” is what I hate. And the fact that they put a freakin income tax on kids who created a game in their own time. I personally think this is very alarming. Yk the movie walle? Cause that’s what this is starting to feel like. The Metaverse is literally a worse version of walle. In walle, they are still atleast conscious enough to swipe on screens. From his depictions, would we literally be doing nothing all the time. Yes. That seems like the problem here. I always thought as a kid that when I grow up, this world would be the absolute same as we know it now, but it isn't. What if we started living in a futuristic dystopian nightmare where everyone has to live in a fake reality and lie to themselves every single day. I like to escape reality every now and then, but I don't want to be forced to live in a fake reality. I watched Walle and it's horrifying. It may not seem terrifying at first, but when you think of it, it is. I just don't want that to happen :(

I started playing roblox back in the early days, like late 2006. It was a big deal when they added shadows. Today it feels nothing like what I grew up playing

We should know better. While remote access to some events is a very good accessibility tool, we have no reason for a full-on metaverse, just make some optimizations to stuff like zoom (I could make a video about the potential there.) and you can really get a lot while still prioritizing that you go out and do human stuff whether in nature or a city.

The worst part is they already call their platform "The Metaverse" even in legal documents

Something better than The Metaverse, already exists... an experience where everything and everyone is connected, you can go to a conference meeting and play sports, you can dance at a party, go to a concert, or even eat food. You can experience senses like taste, touch, and smell.... the lore is so in depth and crazy, spans for like, soo many years. And you can play other games inside of this one, not to mention the graphics are incredible, legitemately so good that every other game basically tries to copy them but fails......... I like to call this game, Real Life.

But even looking at online experiences, Facebook and even Roblox don’t hold a candle to Vrchat. It’s practically the “meta verse” already out there as is. No need for ridiculous blockchain nonsense, or Facebook to hold your hand and peer into your internet history. Just log in with or without a vr headset, and have fun. Do yoga. Go bowl. FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT! I build roblox games and my friend scripts, we made a ton of games, most unfinished because we always release on BETA for criticism. I had to advertise it to streamers because the struggle is real just trying to get up there. I just hope ROBLOX at least notices the ROBLOX exhange rate. THEY ARE WORTH 10 UBISOFTS MAN.

If you want to see a real meta verse game changer look into neos vr. It’s practically already ready player one. Has 3 forms of crypto currency. Little to no moderation. Feeedom to add worlds, avatars and even props/tools that can be brought into any place. And it has a medium player base. Not to mention the amount of freedom given to the people that play it.

While living in a virtual world sounds cool as a concept, it also sounds like the worst thing in the world imo. If we all just retreat into VR then the world outside will completely die because no one will care anymore. As much as Ready Player One is a fantastic nostalgia trip, it's also a serious dystopia about the dangers of excessive virtual immersion.

While the concept of a metaverse feels dystopian, living with people of all experiences from all over the world could help your own experience level. For me, I personally don't want to be involved unless it is portrayed well enoughm although as a Roblox user myself, i think that Roblox, despite its large amounts of centralization and "tax", has the upper hand in this big wild race.

I just don’t want to be a part of the metaverse because there is so much else to life like nature then virtual things, that’s 1 good thing about lockdown it made me go on walks and realise how beautiful and amazing nature is

Metaverse is stupid not terrifying.

I'm actually very excited for the Metaverse! If it's executed well it can be revolutionary. All the fear is just people who can't understand that things have to change. People back in the 70's were terrified of the idea of "trains" and now it's an everyday thing.

Yeah I don't understand all the people comparing this to the Matrix and Wall-E, people would never let it go that far. It's the exact same as stuff like VR-Chat but on a professional level and with more opportunities. Nobody would ever agree to use something that completely removes all of their privacy and takes away the need to ever get up off of your chair.

I've been playing on Roblox for 7 years now and have been a developer for almost 2 years. It amazes me how little Roblox is taken seriously despite how big it is. The top games pull more active players than any of the top games on Steam, Epic Games, etc. It's the perfect haven for young, creative minds to flourish and have the tools they need to make something special. Friends of mine have made games on the platform and have already found a very well paying career for themselves. They haven't even started college yet. If you're someone who wants to learn how to code, 3D model, or learn how to design UI, whatever, Roblox is a fantastic place to start. It's only going to keep growing and growing
