FACE to FACE Prophetic Painting with Julie Ann Scott

In this episode of Face to Face Tim Vince talks to Julie Ann Scott. Julie Ann had a real shock when she discovered that the man she thought was her father was not and that she was the result of an affair. This rocked her faith. Julie Ann describes how she went to work on a kibbutz in Israel and nearly married until she was asked to renounce her faith. She returned to her home in Yorkshire and whilst fasting and praying the Lord showed her that she needed to forgive her parents. She found her father in New York and then toured with a Christian drama group from California around the world including Eastern Europe. She eventually returned to UK married her husband, had two children and started to paint. In her own words: 'I just felt that God wanted me to paint. And so I got this canvas from the works and just went a bit mad really. Just enjoyed myself’. Julie Ann is self taught and has worked professionally producing thousands of paintings and describes how and where the inspiration comes. Some of which came from living in the Lake District for 30 years. Her most recent publication ‘Stand’ depicts dramatic scenes and portraits from wartime Britain - some of which are shown during the interview - based on the them of the spiritual war described by Paul in Ephesians 6. The book and paintings are being exhibited at Windsor Castle and St Mary’s Woolnoth - John Newton’s former church in London.

I have seen Julie in interviews about her story before. It's very inspiring. I do get the feeling that God is encouraging all the creatives out there to get out there and share His message with the world. It doesn't need to be very literal or preachy. I think work like Julie's can reach people on a deeper level than that. Then they hear her back story. But the art itself has a wide appeal. That's what I aspire to do too. Also, personally, I thought to myself "I'm going to spend a year developing my art skills and see where it leads". Then right on que a year long art program came on my radar that was designed to help artists find their voice. It is also run by Christians, but there are people with all backgrounds and beliefs on the program and I've had a great oportunity to connect and talk to them on a level. Which I think is key to reaching people with the gospel. First we need to find common ground and listen to them, before preaching at them.
