My grandparents all passed through Ellis Island from Ireland in the mid 1920s. This reminded me of their courage and hard work.

My Father and his family came through in 1906 when he was 3 years old. They came from Palermo. In the 90's when Ellis Island was refurbished and the Wall of Immigrants was built I had my dad's name put on. He will forever be associated with Ellis Island and will live on forever. My Dad did well. Graduated college. Became a Doctor. Got married and had two children. I was one of the lucky children ! I am so proud of what he achieved. 🇺🇸🇮🇹

BTW..my grandma who died when I was younger, refused to be buried back in Italy. She loved America! She rests in Omaha, NE next to my Grandpa who also believed in America was a promised land. Rest in peace!

It's a crying shame that such a historical place as Ellis Island was allowed to deteriorate for as long as it was before being picked up by preservation organisations such as the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island foundation, Save Ellis Island, etc. They've pretty much saved the Main Hall, but what about the rest of Ellis Island? How about cleaning up and restoring the hospital? They were just as important as the Main Hall, aren't they?

My grandma came to America through Ellis Island in 1948??? And was reunited with my grandpa who came before her to get land, job, and opportunity in America. If it wasn't for them, I would not have been born here in America. I always wonder if they did not take the chance of faith for a better life in America, where would I have been born and became...Interesting!
