There is another way to do it that is actually even better. With this method, you make coils with alternating turning directions, then you solder a straight piece of wire through them to close the coil as a link after weaving them together. Another method, which requires a bit tighter weave specifications uses coils that are all turned the same direction. Rather than soldering a straight piece of wire through to close the link, you actually alternate between soldering the ends of coil pairs. Because the weave is tighter, and there is no additional straight wire between them, you can achieve a thinner overall size. It is harder to get the coil to have the exact right guage, diameter, and pitch for this style of weave though, but you only need to work with one coil.
