Using AI to summarize and prepare notes is definitely a helpful tool, but it isn't a true shortcut. The most valuable learning happens when you reflect on what you see and hear. This is when your brain begins to process information and where synaptic connections are strengthened.

This is also true for "look through this doc and let me know if there's anything relevant to..." It's a massive speed up for getting to the point but it deprives you of the opportunity to find other important and idea provoking things.

By that logic, you know the most detailed information about literally everything there is to know about and you did that before attaining any of the information that you had. Which is pretty silly.

@@ww-pw6di As someone who has a Masters Degree in Education, you do present a valid argument....However, the manipulation of information on a base level is how we learn. So the actual process of compiling summarised notes assists with learning....So, the original poster was not "pretty silly".

Interesting tool, but have been doing something similar using ag (a supercharged grep tool) and ollama to pull and summarize large datasets like the 500,000 texts CIA reading room and tens of thousands of newspapers. Eventually will use vector database to do similarity searches but the stupid simple grep works insanely well. I just prep end directions "please summarize the following etc" and pipe output into ollama running Phi3 or yi models and get a beautifully formatted output back.

Fabric lets you do a few things. You can choose to use open models or ChatGPT depending on the need for data privacy or other factors (employers might prohibit proprietary data going out to OpenAI as an example), and you can use it directly in the command line in a UNIXy fashion, making Fabric a utility just like grep or awk.
