Lee Watson is the volunteer Groundsman at Clay Cross Town FC.
Keely Brown, Head of Strategy & Facilities at Derbyshire County FA commented "Lee can spend up to 20 hours a week during the summer months working on the Clay Cross pitch, working alone for 90% of the time. The pitch has to accommodate between 50 - 60 fixtures each season and on a limited budget Lee does what is necessary to ensure that the pitch is in an excellent condition; this often involves personal investment into the pitch. Lee uses the internet and his contacts to seek advice and he treats the site like his own back garden! It is fantastic that Lee’s hard work and efforts have been recognised both locally and more recently nationally as he won The FA’s Groundsman of the Year category for clubs that play in step 7 and below."
