  • @sergeysmelnik
    @sergeysmelnik5 жыл бұрын

    People who like the pedal commander or any of the other clones have no idea how a throttle by wire system works. When you press down on the gas pedal your ecu sees the signal then sends your throttle body instructions on how far to open. The pedal commander attaches to the gas pedal and alters the signal that goes from the gas pedal to the ecu. The problem people are trying to fix with the device is the so called lag they feel when they press their gas pedal down and when the car actually starts moving. For some reason people think that the signal going from the gas pedal takes a long time to travel to the ecu and that is why they have a delay. The signal actually reaches the ecu instantly and the signal going from the ecu to the throttle body is instant as well. So why is there a delay? Because the automotive makers built it into the software. Its called torque management. If you slam your foot down to the floor what happens is the ecu says, nope, and gradually opens the throttle body not giving it full power right away because it doesnt want you to spin the tires and lose control of the car. Pretty much every modern car does this. So what does the pedal commander do? It lies to the ecu as to how far youre pressing the gas pedal. So if you press it 30 percent the ecu may see 50. So by the time youre at 70 to 80 to 90 percent the ecu is seeing 100 percent full throttle making it feel like the car is accelerating faster. The problem with this is that now the pedal resolution has been greatly lowered making it more light switch like and the 1 to 1 throttle pedal to output ratio has been thrown out which makes it feel less like the old throttle by cable systems which were 1 to 1 ratios. No matter what setting you have on the pedal commander the ecu will still slow down the rate at which your throttle opens since this product installs before the ecu signal and not after and torque management is still there. My opinion is that this product and all its clones are snake oil. These companies prey on people who dont understand how a modern throttle by wire system works. It doesnt get rid of any lag because there is none to get rid of. It will do nothing to how fast your car accelerates to sixty. Dont waste your money on this huge rip off. To get rid of that delay you have to get a tune which will remove torque management. Also, a tune can alter your throttle to output ratio to whatever your want making the pedal commander totally useless. Yes if you have both a tune and a pedal commander at the same time you have literally just flushed 300 bucks down the drain. This pedal commander is worth 30 bucks at most. My RC radio controller can do this exact same thing except I get to totally customize what my throttle does with a visual graph and lcd display plus I have atleast 20 more functions and its wireless all for 40 bucks. So please dont waste your money on this garbage product.

  • @Smasher-Devourer

    So basically all these do, is the same/similar thing as driving modes on a Mustang. They make the truck "Feel" faster by opening up the throttle more, with less pressure on the gas pedal, but at WOT, its still the same regardless. Having a "touchy" throttle will make it "feel" more fun, but without actually making your truck faster. The stock throttle isn't very touchy at all, (pretty much have to floor it to actually make the truck move) and I suppose that is what makes these alluring. Plus if you have a powertrain warranty, this won't void anything like a tune will. A tune is a much better option, but not if you want that warranty in case if something blows up... The dealer will blame a tune for pretty much any major engine failure because the tune can push the engine passed its "normal" operating parameters.

    Two things my F150 does that really pisses me off in this regard is resets the "mode" of driving back to normal each time I turn it off, and Sport mode keeps the transmission in an unnecessarily low gear after accelerating for a while. Do all these devices keep their setting after you power down the vehicle? And if you're holding constant throttle do they let the transmission upshift to lower RPM?

    I see a lot of you want to see how much the throttle changes at a certain angle. The thing is this device only affects the voltage. The voltage only changes how much the throttle opens not how fast it opens from 0. The acceleration of the throttle opening would be based on how fast it can read the voltage being provided. Nothing to do with the actual voltage amount itself.

    THANK YOU. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills about this throttle response issue. These throttle pedal voltage modifiers do nothing different than the different drive modes already in the F-150. They don't change throttle response, they change throttle sensitivity. What I have an issue with is the time it takes the signal to actually reach the throttle body. With a throttle cable, the throttle blade is immediately responsive to the pedal input since they are mechanically linked. With the F-150, there is almost a half second delay from when you go WOT to when the throttle body actually opens.

I bet if you watched the blade open stock and again at the highest setting you could actually see a speed difference in how quickly it opens. Not with your slow speed actuator your using but a quick right foot to to the floor at both settings would prove (or disprove) the theory. Keep up the great work!

    Maybe I missed a point in the video, but I did not get any information about the actual reason to see it: What about the lag? Changing the throttle curve has nothing to do with lag (as you can move your accelerator faster with your own foot).

  • @americantrucks

    @americantrucks

    4 жыл бұрын

    I think you did miss the point. The perceived 'lag' is the fact that when you push your foot down a 1/4 of the way and it feels like very little to nothing happens. This changes that by ramping voltage sooner causing the throttle to open more given the same input, thus changing the perception of said 'lag'. -Justin

    I have one. On a Ford Raptor. Don't call it a gimmick or fake. Huge difference from with to without. You can't duplicate what it does by just pressing the gas pedal harder. It does something. No doubt. I loved it at first. That being said, I've had it on for 2 years. I started noticing odd shifting, especially down shifting, or not shifting, at odd times. Like to the point I thought something was f*cked up. I took the Pedal Commander off, and my problems are gone. I don't go by what people "say" ---- I go by what I actually experience, and that is what I've experienced. Did it start to malfunction? Cause havoc with ECU even though it's "not supposed to"? No idea. But as of now, I'm glad it's off.

    I was really hoping you'd test the improvement (or lack thereof) in actual lag. I'm very skeptical that these devices reduce actual lag and looking for a proper test of this. My guess is that they just make the vehicle FEEL less laggy with a hockey stick/boomerang response curve....which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but doesn't really match the claims they make or the price they're asking for these things. I'm not sure how it'd be possible to decrease ACTUAL lag time, since the pedal still has to communicate with the ECM/ECU/PCM/whatever. There's no getting around that AFAIK, so any lag introduced in this communication will still be present. If there were a way to bypass the ECU/ECM and use a snappier data bus to control the throttle, then I'd totally get it....but I just don't see how it's possible without getting rid of that bottleneck, which none of these devices do.

    It's essentially the same thing as pushing the gas pedal further. Remember, your feet respond faster than your vehicle's powertrain, so a device like this will not do anything you couldn't do yourself with your feet. Waste of money.

  • @justinbailey8021
    @justinbailey80215 жыл бұрын

    Don't really understand why anyone would waste the money on just making the throttle response more sensitive. To each their own. Why not just put the money into a tune and gain HP, Torque and "Throttle Response". Yeah, it costs more, however, you gain so much more then just making it feel faster without gaining squat. If you want added throttle response, just put it in sport mode. My ecoboost with sport mode activated is about all the throttle response gain that I like. anymore then that just seems like overkill. Just my 2 cents. Have a Great Day People!!

    They are designed to take anywhere from $750, to $1,250, out of your pocket. Your Bible says... Anything that is going to last, is rooted in the truth. And the truth is, the best throttle response ever, comes from the most direct path from the pedal to the throttle. And that would be a cable. But if your throttle cable breaks... That's an easy fix. No need to bring it to the dealer at $120 an hour effective labor rate... Just so they can tell you... They don't know what the problem is. Or... That's the way we do things now ... deal with it. And that is precisely the thinking that has led them to a criminal fraud investigation. And did I happen to mention that, your warranty on a $70,000 pickup truck, is VOID, if you install one of those controllers? Do they mention that in their advertising? Do they tell you that just installing this controller, instantly turns your vehicle into junk? No. Because they have Investments that they have made into these companies. And these companies guaranteed return on these Investments. And in order to get a return on these Investments... They don't care who they screw. Lest not we forget... Actual throttle cables... Aren't made in Silicon Valley. They were made in the same sweatshops... In China... that these throttle controllers are made in. By virtually, the same people. All of the settings on your computer, are already designed for Optimal Performance. Going in there, and making adjustments yourself, is getting you that much closer to, computerized, failure.

    Some cars can take almost 3 seconds to respond.. When moving into traffic 3 seconds can seem like a life time..As an example : A Nissan GTR can do 0-62 mph in 2.8 seconds, so if you're about to enter traffic as a GTR turn into the same street it can already be doing almost 30mph in those 1.3 seconds that you've had to wait for your car to even start moving onto the street.

    That sounds like a stupid worthless product. All it does is reduce the resolution of your gas pedal. It just ramps up the voltage to your throttle faster or slower. If you want more power without this device just push the pedal further down. It still gives you full power.
