F-Zero 99 - King League Graphics Comparison (Switch vs. SNES)

Ойындар

This is a graphics comparison between F-Zero 99 for Nintendo Switch and F-Zero for Super Nintendo (SNES). This video compares the 3 new tracks added in the King League update. The SNES footage is the Nintendo Switch Online version.
Each track will start with the SNES version, then transition to the Switch version, and then finish off with a side-by-side comparison. SNES is on the left and Switch is on the right.
0:00 - Mute City III
1:01 - Red Canyon II
2:11 - Fire Field

Fire is animated in the background on firefield. The clouds on port town move extremely slowing aswell. Ive was watching pretty carefully at red canyon at first to make sure the sun wasnt slowly rising.

Some of the background is 3d on some tracks aswell. Mainly the rocks in big blue.

Crazy how these games sync despite the different scaling

The dream beat synchronizing with the track at 2:01 was trippy lol i didnt expect it. Also that fire field start was rude af, blocking both the good and goose and using them to regain speed LMAO

Driving onto the narrow shape set of ramps looks like it's going faster in SNES while F-Zero 99's set of speed looks highly synchronized with the timing compared to the SNES variant.

1:26 the arrow in SNES comes much faster to you, it shows just how different the sense of speed is between the two versions even though the actual speed on the track is the same.

It comes faster because you go faster on SNES. It is further away too, that is why they both reach it the same time.

@@lefcandyit’s not. It’s the difference between mode 7 pseudo 3D and actual 3D. All the timings are exactly the same. It just looks faster on SNES, which is certainly fun TBF.

@@lefcandy It's the perspective. You can see much farther ahead in 99 compared to SNES. Remember the SNES is skewing a backdrop via Mode 7 and can only draw so much without impacting performance. Meanwhile 99 is a 3D game using 3D objects while attempting to imitate the 2D visuals of SNES's Mode 7. I imagine they could have implemented some additional tricks to improve the sense of speed, but being able to observe bunches of players on the screen had to take priority.

@@denimchicken104 The timings are the same because 99's tracks are shorter to compensate that you go slower.

@@Galiaverse It does not matter how far away you can look. I don't understand, it is clear in the video that SNES is faster, try covering how much you can see ahead with your hand and it still the same.

You go faster but the tracks are a bit longer too, F-Zero 99 made the tracks stubbier but also the cars slower to compensate

Why they removed the fire detail when you turn off your engine and turn it ON again? in the Snes starts red and becomes lightner, and in the 99 version, it is always light...

There is debate on that that hasn't been resolved the 2 theories are. -F-Zero 99 is slower with the tracks adjusted to be slightly slower so everything lines up. -F-Zero 99 has a different camera angle and wider FOV which naturally results in things looking slower.

The original F-Zero for SNES was a faster. Because of the speeds, the reaction time for turning was honed. Playing F-Zero 99 makes you feel like you are slow so you would have to make adjustments to your reaction times

The differences are the map design (99 tracks are wider), the lower draw distance of the original, and a greater keystone effect. It’s going the same speed, but being able to see the track and all it’s racers from greater distances gives you more time to react and anticipate what’s about to happen.

SNES is faster, the tracks on 99 are scaled down (shorter) so that is why it takes similar times to complete the tracks.

@@lefcandy I would say they’re not shorter. They’re wider and like others have pointed out, there were effects on the SNES that are not present in 99.
