But both Elizabeth and Meghan were fed talking points by their connections to the GOP leadership AND the fact that they have a specific producer just for the republican seat. So I guess it doesn't matter in the end whether they mean it or not, the outcome in the same. It's just a mean, bigoted brat performing on stage. And isn't that the problem? Everyone else has sincere believes, but the Republican seat has to be told what talking points they need to parrot. It just shows that one party in this country has real positions, while the other collectively decides as a tribe what their reaction/counterargument will be.

"By that woman" is my favourite part - sparkle, that woman is your boss. She created the show and the entire format. She is a trailblazer for women in television. Without her, you would be nothing. Why did Walters hire this fool?

I have asked that question many times she is the biggest baby. There is just no way she should have been on this show. There were far more qualified women who should have been sitting in that chair. Her biggest claim to fame is that she was on survivor and she married some football player. They should have put her on the real housewives of something. She is no journalist or a professional of any sort she should be sitting in the audience.

The way the production staff was able to reel her back in with just seconds to spare was impressive.

This just goes to show how utterly insane Elisabeth Hasselbeck is. She's describing that on air interaction as Barbara Walters reprimanding her and not for what it actually was. She was *_DE-ESCALATING_* the situation because clearly Hasselbeck couldn't contain her emotions with the charged topic at hand. And she was trying to get the conversation back on track and to calm down heightened emotions. Hasselbeck has always been a complete nutbag.

To be fair to Walters she created the view on this premise, having a bunch of women with opposing views (hence The View) duke it out live on television and she was very candid about it. Hasselbeck knew exactly what she was signing up for when she joined and if she couldn't handle the heat she should have stayed out of the kitchen... And yeah she is a whackjob.

I don't agree with Elizabeth at all, but they used to shit on her for all of the things that they also did. I mean, this one clip of Barbara being level-headed could be followed by a montage of her acting the complete opposite way. That's what bothers me with us. Whatever side of the political line they're on doesn't matter. It's the hypocrisy of it. I don't care if I agree with you politically, if you're being a hypocrite I'm going to call you out on being a hypocrite. Just remember, whatever the view is now that's not what they were back then. They had a terrible reputation of just being a bunch of women yelling over each other.

Not at all...I don't even like Elizabeth that much, but Barbara was cutting her off and essentially telling her "your opinion is in the minority, and you need to listen to us, and figure it out"...Hasselbeck is a conservative, she's EXPECTED to have a contrarian opinion. Barbara was bullshitting here, while pretending to be on the higher ground. It might have fooled you, but I see straight through it...and Elizabeth was right to be upset. Barbara was not taking her opinion seriously.

I watch a lot of comedy documentaries from the 80s and early 90s, and it’s hard to find anyone say something negative about Joy Behar. So many of them have said she was like their mom on tour. Love her or hate her political views, it seems like she is a good person.

The funny part about this whole thing is these shows have evolved, or deteriorated into 4 women screaming opposing opinions, talking over each other, and you can't hear a damn thing anyone says. That's why Barbara and Oprah, and others, who actually have a show, where people can speak and hear each other are actually enjoyable to watch. Screaming host and guests, are no fun, for me at least.

I just lost a lot of respect for Barbara Walters she called her irrational and crazy I disagree with Elizabeth position but I do think Barbara was over the line. And I will say that I'm very disappointed with seeing how Barbara Ann Elizabeth pretended like everything was okay when they came back from commercial that's a bunch of BS. I didn't see Elizabeth interrupting anybody she was just speaking passionately on her opinion. If Barbara was worth anything she would have said we'll discuss this more in the next segment. And then Barbara the prima donna sits there and says oh well I knew we shouldn't have talked about this. Then what are you going to talk about basket weaving?

I'm sorry but Barbara was right. You have to be able to have tough conversations without getting all crazy emotional. Be a goddamn professional!!

Those women only like their own opinion. When they have a differing opinion, they have to cut to commercial. You don't have to agree with each other (that was the point of the show), but give everyone a chance to get their viewpoint across. On that show you have 3 or 4 against 1. It is not a fair set up. For that reason I never watch that show. They started changing so many co-hosts that I got tired of getting used to someone new. Did Barbara die yet? What is she now, 100?

I’m normally not really a big fan of Joy, but I just really appreciate how she had Elisabeth’s back and offered her to come into her office so she could calm down. If you watched the show Meghan has her own temper tantrums almost every day. She reads her ignorant notes that are mostly right wing conspiracy theories and the guest on the show prove her wrong every day and then she almost starts to cry. Joy points out that her claims are ignorant and Meghan starts talking over everyone and then turns toward the audience and yells at them to. Her pet is a cactus, I guess that's because even the desert can't kill a cactus. And the cactus has more intelligence and personality.

Chuck Johnston ALL TRUE . I find the Christian right wing unfounded in 2019. McCain is cool here and there but she becomes absurdly nonsensical in her hot topic debates . The problem was that Elizabeth was getting to the point where she was so emotional that she was yelling, being really loud and at that point people stop listening to you because you sound overtly emotional. People tune you out and your message is not heard anymore. If only for the reason that it's hard on their ears to listen to or to follow. Barbara was trying to calm her down so Elizabeth could get her point across.

I'm not saying barbra is a saint, but how are you supposed to do a show that is about taking different subjects from very opposite point of views and have a discussion when one person is emotional? You don't argue with emotional person because she's going to yell and not listen. Barbara was trying to control the situation and if she didn't then Elizabeth would probably talk over the other women and not allow them to state their opinions because she wasn't controlling herself. Her behaviour was unprofessional and childish

Dan Wruck I thought Barbara was impressively professional....she had a whole career of knowing how to be graceful, even when it’s uncomfortable (or when the guy in her ear is going “wrap!”). She reprimanded both Joy & Whoopi, onstage, for walking off on Bill O’reilly, in the name of professionalism. Elizabeth didn’t handle this well...but sometimes we all do that when we’re younger (& full of ourselves). No one is perfect & we’ve ALL had that moment when a mentor doesn’t take our side on a topic....it’s NOT a quit-your-job (you received from being on Survivor) moment lol.

Zach Berrett It has a lot to do with entitlement vs earned experience and respect. Barbara is an elder with decades of work under her belt. If she offers advice, some humility is appropriate. She has the ranks to do so. Throwing a tantrum and swearing is not professional. Entitlement is a common effect of privilege.

We may never know what Elizabeth had on her mind that day to just simply break... It feels like her breakdown wasn't even meant for Barbara Walters but unfortunately she just blew up right there. Man people some time need therapy to root out certain behaviors that might be a problem for us in the world.

Barbra is correct. You can be passionate about your view and still discuss it in a rational and calm way. Storming off and saying you’ll quit when you are reminded of consciousness shows your ego was touched and nothing else.
