F-35 at Edwards AFB -- 2011 in Review
Ғылым және технология
The F-35A flight test team at Edwards AFB, Calif., recounts 2011, a productive year of test that they call "the year of the firsts." From flight envelope expansion to mission systems and KC-10 fuel testing to sensor fusion, the team made great strides in 2011.

I really want that challenge coin, can't wait to see these things in action!
great video! hopefully i will be flying one of these in the near future as a pilot in the RAF.
EXCELENTE VIDEO,MUCHAS GRACIAS POR COMPARTIRLO. SALUDOS.
@Judyiack A model yes. B and C models have to carry it on an external pod that is designed to be stealthy
yeah a 'delta' design would be a great idea :) it'd make the jet twice as badass and allow it to perform even more various roles/ tasks.
You'd probably have to wait till 2018. Lockheed already sold like 3 F-35s to the RAF but they're still in Flordia probably for testing. I think the first few F-35s of the RAF would be delivered by 2015 and it would be comissioned to the RAF on 2018 I think.
few more years to go til i apply for my OTS spot. would LOVE to get flight test engineer or pilot one day for my AFSC, if not i'll def be working for a defense contractor.
Next to the F22 video, the best vid from Lockheed, jet
how can all of them fly the same if one is slightly longer winspan and one has extra weight (from the fan to counter moment the variable thrust)
How's this? A "B" with the wings/landing gear and hook of a "C" and "A" type gun position and an extra refueling system? :) Now that's a JSF! Tutti Frutti!
@morzee94 although the RAF will still be acquiring the f-35's, if i don't cut it to be a f-35 pilot, there are still many other fighter aircraft available in the air force unlike in the navy especially after the harriers got cut.
@hotpocketpoison Of course! I understand all that. What I mean is why "exactly" did the YF-23 loose to the F-22? I want to know the official reasons why.
Hungary has an offer too: 24 Mig-29 from 1993, plus 21 engines, starting bid at 43 million dollars, last bid in June 14th! Any takers? :)
A B version with a hook is a great idea considering it can land with a heaver load. But ya the C version preforms better, longer rage it can take off with larger loads, cheaper on maintenance.
True. Plus Germany could consider the F-35 as a replacement for the Luftwaffe F-4 Phantoms or Tornado jets.
Sounds like a beast fighter jet to me :P.
If they build a Delta version of the F-35, I hope the F-35 Delta would have bigger wings for better turn capability and greater BVR range.
You frightening me , in hard times My sham
The F22 predictions were cheaper, as of right now the F22 costs have surpassed the YF23. As for it being worse they were very close in performance, YF23 is also faster, it also used something like 30% of the parts of the F15 if i am correct and 60% of the same tools.
@JAMamation Well In that case you'll probably be flying the Typhoon, which is yet another awesome aircraft. Either way good luck!!
well i preferred the F-35 B anyway :) thanks for your input! i didn't know that to be honest, although i should've.
@morzee94 true, but i've always had my eyes set on the air force. navy is my second option of course however. i do understand that catapult launches would be awesome ^__^
@hotpocketpoison I've heard these things to but most of the stuff on the YF-23 is still classified. I dont know why - they lost! Time will tell I guess.
@morzee94 and thanks btw :)
Does the F 35 have a gun?
I want one...
This plane will be great for the United States and its allies.
@JAMamation Royal Navy would be a better bet if you want to fly the F-35!!
@hotpocketpoison Those are the reasons you believe but I want the official reasons! The ones from the very people who made the final decision. Im guessing we'll have to wait a decade or 2 before that show pops up on the history channel kind of like the F-16 vs. F-18 battle. I cant wait...
@IauthenticI Despite the usual technical issues with prototypes, the YF-23 was superior fighter even over the F-22! For starters it weighed as much as an F-35 but with 2 engines! I think the DOD wants to cut down on the number of defense contractors so they can spend a fewer billions on R&D. I suspect that shortly after 2050 LM will be among the VERY few contractors that will make next gen fighters and bombers and other specialty aircrafts, ship, robotics, and satellites.
F-35s for the Phils Air Force in the future.

I hope the Philippine Air Force could buy the F-35 or F-16C Block 52 in the near future like by 2030 or something. Till then I think the Phils Air Force should buy some second hand NATO jets as a stock gap like USAF F-16C Block 25s, Canadaian Air Force CF-18s or Romanian Air Force Mig-29s. Although I think we can get the 2nd hand Mig-29s cheaper from the Ukraine or Bulgaria.
Yeah, Cameron got his ass kicked in the last week or two for being ridiculous with all that new carriers changes for "C", but since the love Harrier is undisputed in the island, I think this was the right way to do, back to the...jumpjets! Hooray :) I truly hope that LockheedMartin will develope in time even a "Delta" version of F-35, basically a "B" with a "C" landing hook used only for emergency landings or in joint exercises, not suited for long using like a F-14 or F-18 for example...
No you wont! :) The UK just changed back to F-35 B! :)
@IauthenticI Lightning and raptor, Why want a name after a spider, and Grey Ghost really, I understand that the YF-23 is more stealthier than The F-22 but its less agile, Also the YF-23 is better than the F-35, thats a fact.
Screw the MiGs
@JAMamation im laughing because it's a terrible aircraft
