    As a business owner who has numerous trucks, you really can't compare a 250/350 (or 2500/3500 from GM and RAM) with the cybertruck. They are built to carry/tow/push with a plow so much more. It really is just comparable to the 150/1500 and nothing more. And that's fine. Those are the trucks most people buy for personal use, or anything that is considered light work in my business. But there is a reason why those engines 250 and above use so much fuel.

    You can't underestimate the massive fuel $$$ savings, some of us are going to realize. I just drove my diesel GMC 3500 Series Dually 4X4, towing a trailer, from Clovis, CA to Port Townsend, WA. 983 miles in total, and I got 11 mpg while towing an empty 2 horse trailer. The Dually has a 30 gallon diesel capacity, and I had to refill the tank 4 times at a cost of $595..!!! I could fly up there cheaper than that! In daily use, we use it for our construction business, hauling plywood, drywall, bags of cement, 3,000 lbs of aggregate, etc., and our maintenance costs beyond fuel, are astonishingly high. We hope to get our CyberTruck in the first half of this year, and we think we'll save around $500-$600 per month, vs. the Dually. Because the Dually is so tall, and the rear arches are so wide, it's impossible to load from the sides, so we are used to loading everything from the rear, or from the top, so the CyberTruck shouldn't be a learning curve due to the sloping sides, since the Dually is probably even worse in that regard.

    @@Wibb14 As usual, the supposed analysts and "experts" are wrong. We work with a ton of subcontractors; plumbers, electricians, concrete guys, carpenters, and they are all driving big 4WD trucks. I know how much their car payments are, and I know how much they spend on gas/diesel, because we sometimes have to pay their expenses, depending on how the job contracts are written, and let me tell you, some of these guys are driving 200-400 miles a DAY, just to get to work, and to their job sites. The savings they will realize, over a 5 year period is mind-blowing. I think some of them will save from $30k to $60k over a 5 year period. That's almost enough to pay for the Cybertruck 4WD version. If I'm a plumbing, or electrical contractor, and I have 5, 10, 20 vehicles in my fleet, that's a TON of $$$$$ to be saved.

  • @swingister

    The only issue is range when pulling something. You would have had to have 4 Tesla superchargers to make that trip.

  • @The80shilling

    @The80shilling

    7 ай бұрын

    @@swingister I think if I had to drive from CA to WA again, but in the Cybertruck, I'd probably have to make at least two more stops than I did in the Dually, but to be honest, I could only drive for a max of 4-5 hours continuously in the Dually anyway, before needing a pee break, or to stretch my legs and get some fresh air. I was averaging around 50 mph over the whole distance in the Dually, so that's around 200-250 miles between breaks, so I think the Cybertruck would do just fine, unless I had to really push hard and go a specific distance in a specific time. I haven't seen any official figures for the Cybertruck range while towing, but if the 4WD version is supposedly getting 340 miles of range, then I'd expect 200-250 miles while towing the horse trailer I towed. If I HAD to tow long distances, I'd spring for the range extender option, and that would probably do the trick.

    @@The80shillingI agree, I think a lot of work truck users stand to save a ton of money on fuel and maintenance expenses by going to an EV truck. It will depend on the situation, but I think it's really the most common situations that stand to benefit from going EV. And as the charging networks get built out, the benefits and the range of good use cases will only increase.

    As another old guy who drives a Ford 250 that Tesla would definitely take some getting used to. Could not use it to travel long distances towing. “Getting low on electrons, I need to fill up” First find a large place to safely park and disconnect trailer. Leave trailer unattended then drive to a charger for however long that takes. Drive back to trailer hoping know one has parked blocking your ability to reconnect to your trailer and safely exit. In the winter months repeat frequently due to decreased battery range and very carefully plan your driving routs and stops. Driving it like a car would not be bad

    Saw 2 Cybertrucks on our drive to Texas this week. One was painted 2 tone in unfortunate colors. The other was stainless and driven by a Tesla employee who was testing the truck.

    Pausing at 5:56 and scratching my head why anyone thinks the CT is somehow worse for pedestrian safety. The F-250 is obviously the more dangerous vehicle, it doesn't even have a massive brushguard and winch. Maybe all these people that are suddenly concerned about pedestrians should start with making brushguards and winches illegal.

    Two things nobody mentions: did they retain the integral loading ramp underneath the bed? And what is the bed height at kneeling or lowest setting? In other words, if you use this as a truck, how high do you have to lift cargo into the bed? Nobody seems to know or care- it's not even on Tesla's site.

    Cyber truck tow rating is 11klbs. The F250 is 22klbs. You can drive 500 miles on one tank. If you get a long bed, it’s a 48gal tank so 650 miles. When you need to refuel, it takes a few minutes with the F250. In short, you could not tow across country with the Cyber truck due to its limited range and you could not tow anything over 11k pounds. That’s why you don’t see F250 owners driving a Cyber truck.

    You can't know how poorly that bed with the slanted sides is until you try to haul a few loads. Anything that leans against the slanted side will work its way to the rear of the bed due to the forces from the side.

    It’s for 2 hands I believe , you need your both hands on the wheel to press the turn signal button, which is dumb idea. I have that on my Harley, but on the bike you kind of do hold both hands on the bars, . Not in the car though. I use my right hand for holding my coffee or snack and can easily turn the signal lever with my left hand.
