    The nice thing about the Tomcat is every switch, knob and button has a clickity click feel. Everything very robust and substantial. Like an old warbird. You can tell the designers borrowed a lot of ideas from past aircraft. Brilliant!

    I just saw the BUNO ID plate for the first time... 159437 belongs to a F-14A that has a significant historical fact to it, in that its one of only 4 USN F-14s with an aerial victory to its credit. It shot down a Libyan MiG-23 Flogger in JAN 1989 in the second Gulf of Sidra incident while assigned to VF-32 aboard the JFK. Its in storage out in the desert boneyard, with plans to restore and display it on the JFK if the plans of turning the carrier into a floating museum come to fruition. Also, 159437 never was converted to F-14B, its always been an A model.

    on the left side next to the seat is a hydraulic hand pump lever that is indeed usable. It might be for the brakes to refill the pressure.

    Hey Cap. Another great video! F-14 uses pneumatic crank for the engines. For the landing gear lever, you can right click it and it will turn and pull for emergency gear down. Same principle for the arrestor hook, If you right click it, it will turn and then it will lower in emergency down mode. (Ripcord)

    So that windshield bit you were confused by. There are "vents" in front of the canopy that can blow air at it. Heated air to get rid of frost, or "rain repel" which is blowing a stream of air to keep rain away from the canopy.

    Another great vid. Good explanation of all the functions that couldn't possible all be configured to hotas. At least an idea of where that button might be lol. I have cougar MFD's which are blank on the F-14B. Could map a lot of them. The training the pilots must have went through is unreal.

    Stand by mode for the altimeter is to select the instrument probe giving data. When in stand by mode the altimeter act as the stand by altimeter instrument or the emergency one

    Being a civilian aircraft mechanic, the "Park" and "Aux" gauge might be a Hydraulic accumulator gauge? Pressurized cylinders that hold a certain amount of psi in case you lose hyds. That way you're not completely boned if you lose em lol. There are similar systems on most aircraft. Besides that, the fact that it depletes after a few uses makes me think this. At least thats how it functions on aircraft I've worked on. If you lose hyds, you've got a few pumps of the brakes to stop. "Park" gauge for brakes, "Aux" for flight controls? I'm only speculating though, i haven't read the manual.

    Rain repellent may be a squirt of fluid to clear the front screen in heavy rain. We have a system on the aircraft I fly that has rain repellent. Only used in really heavy rain as it screws up vision if applied to screen when not “wet”

  • @jamiehanna3829

    @jamiehanna3829

    5 жыл бұрын

    I believe the rain repellent is actually air related. If you look at the base of the wind screen, there are three small openings that force air, or heated air, onto the face of the windscreen to clear rain or heat it.

    Jamie Hanna ok roger that. I’m not familiar with the F14 - I was just putting out there that my aircraft (A320 Airbus) uses fluid. Appreciate the correction cheers

    Just trialing F-14! Gotta say the model is very nice. I can almost smell WD-40 and vaseline and burned kerosene in that cockpit... Sounds very nice also. After hornets easy carrier manouvers, was "littlebit" of confusing at first, but since you get in in the air it is (for pilot) not so bad. (not mentioning the carrier landing.. We dont talk about that in here ;D)

    For the altimeter: the stand by means that the altimeter is not showing data from the flight computer and uses pitot tube.

    since a update my joystick FFB is out of center; i changed and tested different settings in FFB and yes it changed but than its in another way out of center; its either the x or y but i only can 1 centered to neutral in the mid. sucks. Any other model in DCS works perfect ....wtf is this ??

    30:45 "Got some circuit breakers here but I hope they aren't ever implemented." Honestly same. Can you imagine having to reset the breakers because you accidentally overloaded the systems mid flight? I enjoy that DCS is a realistic sim, but good lord man that's a bit too far.
