Kenya's Ezekiel Kemboi wins the Men's 3000m Steeplechase event in the Olympic Stadium at the London 2012 Olympic Games (5 August).
France's Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad won silver in the event with Kenya's Abel Kiprop Mutai winning bronze.
Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men.

The steeplechase is such a great event. You can really see the strain as some of the athletes struggle to get over the last few jumps. When you are giving it your all just to hold pace it is tough to come up with that little bit extra you need for the jump!

Ladies & gentlemen let's join together and celebrate birthday wishes of the 3000m steeplechase Legend, Ezekiel Kemboi. Happy birthday Legend.
They way we Kenyans are being recognized ❤
NOBODY DARES KENYANS EXCEPT ETHIOPIANS, AM PROUD KENYAN!!! the interesting thing is that KENYANS are willing to TRAIN BRITISH ,USA and OTHERS in the high altitudes of RIFT VALLEY and that doesnt cause them loose to them in GAMES!!
Great run. And a little celebration there at the end that is rarely seen from the Kenyans! Nice run from 2nd place as well. With all the focus on Kenya and Ethiopia, no one said a thing about him until he won the silver.

Incredible how Kemboi accelerates in the last lap, what a talent! Really curious to see how the race will go in Beijing this year and Rio next. Would like to see Jager for the USA right up there! Hoping to be in Rio myself for the final, what an experience that would be. Will sure be strange being a morning race.

I think that's Kenyan pride that we couldn't let go. The Ethiopians are killing us in 5000/10000m, so at least the Kenyans have gat sumtin' to hold on. Kudos ya'll.
A tip for all, don't aim to be the pacer because you'll lose momentum because you're pressured among other things.Hence why you see the Kenyans for instance just take it easy and take off at the end.Converse energy.

Gran gesto deportivo del francés con el pequeño keniata.
helps to cushion the impact and more or less forces you to step on the barrier instead of hurdling it like most people do. it requires a much different technique, and it looks cool

One thing that I don't understand is that sometimes water obstacle is in the outside and sometimes is in the inside. When its in the outside it seems they have to run more than 3000m.
@borisstarling7661
9 жыл бұрын
They adjust the start line accordingly, depending on whether the water jump's inside or outside. They run 3000m with regular hurdle spacing whatever happens.
how tactical of Kemboi?viva Kenya!
This has been a Kenyans race.We should have a gold medal for Kenyans and another for the rest.
I like Kenya race super
They should rename this to the Kenyan race.
Wow 👍amazing race 🏃

response to british commentators" actually kemboi was dancing on the tracks before bolt even dreamed of been the legend that he is today. only difference is 3000m steeplechase vs 100m popularity.
