Wow! It’s really the other way round. The Iyasele family line should be the ones tracing the ancestors to Ezichema instead of the Ezechima family tracing their ancestors to Benin. That’s what happens when you allow other people to determine who you are.

My friend listen and know peace. Iyasere lineage is not from ezechima. What you do not understand is that iyasere title is not pass down from father to son. When an iyasere of bini die, the title goes to another person whom the oba of bini trusted. It is true that every iyasere family great la-vbieze but it is not a greeting attributed to ezechima. It just shows that you are from the iyase family. My ancestor is also an iyase during the time of oba osemwende. His named is iyasere ohenmwen from Oredo local government. We do not have any ancestral lineage or connection to ezechima.

@wellingtonomoregie-uh, this elder just attributed the Lavieze greeting to Eze Chima, I think he's a lot more credible than you are. Your point that the Iyase title isn't handed down from father to son is noted. Otherwise, it could be inferred that every present-day Iyase is a descendant of Eze Chima. Eze Chima wasn't just anybody, he was a king. The Eze, wast his first name, it was his title and it meant king. He was also a personal friend of the Oba, that tells you what his status was. What we know of him is that he was a warrior, and likely allied his millitary forces with the Oba's in battle, which is the main reason anyone becomes a king's friend. The binii kingdom was an influential one at its peak, and was a Kingdom that received many migrants during its hay days, including from the igbo and yoruba territories. I'm confident that many present day edo families can trace their ancestral lineage to igbo land. I did my secondary school education in Benin and one thing you notice is that other than igbo land, edo people seem to have higher proportion of very light skinned people compared to other tribes around them. Now, the prevalence of very light skinned people is a very igbo characteristic and its particularly prevalent amongst families from benin city as opposed to other edo communities. so one wonders did the bini acquire this characteristic from centuries of igbo migrations into the bini kingdom?

Research and look up The History and traces of these 5 different Clans lineages in present day close by ANAMBRA and you will find and Pinpoint all of these with the exception of ONAJE. Which largely was the last to come and settle and spearheaded by "Nnebisi" from "Nteje"who arrived with others to join previous{prior}settlers families before him. This also explains why UMU ONAJE is the Youngest Clan.

It has nothing to do with Igbo so far. He mentioned Esan, Ife and Aniocha as examples. This is practicals and every Benin man knows exactly what he means. Your so called "identity crisis" is self inflicted and will continue to be so if you do not embrace your true history with evidences. Aniocha, Onitsha etc are all Anioma. If you don't mind ask your ruling class and the clan heads in your region they will be willing to educate you if you really care. Don't be too quick and too easy in your research. Do I have to do this again? Anyways, simply put, if you are feeling lost or having a crisis of your identity as expressed I have simply said you should go to the custodians of your traditional history, customs and heritage. Perhaps they will be able to furnish you with a more robust approach to the strong evidences of your history rather than declaring a crisis over your own identity as a people. That is not evidential enough and perhaps unscientific. There have been so many narratives about your history and origin.e.g that you are "Jews" But that fell flat on its face when it was tested scientifically. There was no remote connection to the "Jews" and like I said before a proper investigation is the only way out of that "crisis of identity" that you may have created yourself. I do not see any difference between us as a people except when one of us is trying to divide us. There are Benin people in as far as Benue, the farthest creeks of Nigeria and beyond dating back to centuries. There are also so many Igbo communities today all over the world. But how ever far and wide they have migrated they are still Igbo descendants. They are still the same people even if they don't practice the common customs and tranditions of the core Igbos in "Mainland Biafra" if you please. I hope with this few lines of mine that you can see that this argument is unnecessary and that cultures and traditions evolve and will continue to do so.

Chief, unfortunately your history is warped and illogical. There is no place in the whole of Aniocha land of Delta State that is called Eze-Chima which incidentally is not the original name of the founder who migrated eastwards from Benin and settled with his family and followers in the towns that make up the Eze-Chima clan today. For those of you who are quick to draw highly illogical conclusions about the Igbo identity or otherwise of people of Eze-Chima clan, I advise that you do some in-depth study of the people and find out the original name of the man who migrated from Benin to the area the Chief is erroneously referring to as a settlement called Eze-Chima. Those of you that are so anxious to appropriate people of Eze-Chima clan should do their homework well; check to find out whether the man's name was Eze-Chima by the time he was leaving Benin to settle in the new area. I won't tell you and I won't help you!

Don't twist the old man's words by editing to suite your views. From the timeline of the Ezechima he's talking about here, the Anioma and Ika towns which you igbos claim Ezechima founded centuries back has already been established. So how then did Ezechima founded the towns which predates him

Let us listen attentively. The interviewee said Oba Orhogbua who reigned about 1550---1570 AD gave a man from Eze Chima in Aniocha Local Govt in Delta state the title of Iyase. However history documents Eze Chima (Benin Prince Ohime) who founded Onitsha Ado N'Idu about 1748. The two events happened at an interval of 200 years! Definitely they are not taking of one person.pls Nnaa Mehn reconcile the information you post so that it can be meaningful.

Eze Chima was from Idu, present day Benin-City, he migrated eastwards to Igboland and his descendants today are Igbos. Migration is not a modern phenomenon

Igbo is a tribe created by the British, igbo don't exist. Before 1860 century can you tell me one ohanzee meeting held in that period. Stop spreading. Igbo, yoruba, North-Nigeria are all the creation of white people, that you people have bought into for political relevants. In enugu you Ezike-oba telling I'm igbo but my ancestors are benin. Is benin that pay them to say that and you want to lead war to your fathers land and succeed. How will Biafra succeed. When idu official family staff is in benin. Continue to fight your ancestors and see if you will succeed.

Anybody can fabricate history. The founder of Isele ukwu was Oligbo a son of Eze Chima. Infact, he fled to what is known as Isele ukwu today when benin warriors invaded Obio (where his father settle in and died and was buried in). He met Nri priests and their family members on the land and they gave him solace and protection. Nri priest were highly respected in those days. He married and had several children. the settlement was later named Oligbo because he was made the first king. Not all Isele ukwu are Children of Oligbo. Some are descendants of the Nri's they met on the land. All Eze Chima's children were born in Benin and all had IGBO names.. You are a small boy and don't know anything. The first borns of Eze Chima founded Onitcha Ugbo. They know the real history of Eze Chima. Long time ago a bini girl (Adesuwa), a daughter of a bini Chief, was beheaded in Ubulu Ukwu by Obi Olise of Ubulu Ukwu for insulting him. When the then Oba heard of it, he sent worriors to invade Ubulu Ukwu, Obi Olise sent people to ask for assistance from the Oligbo people (present day Isele Ukwu). Warriors were sent from Oligbo to aid Ubulu Ukwu and they fought against the bini warriors. Why would Oligbo warriors fight against their own? Like i said, go and ask the Onitcha Ugbo people. They are the first borns of Eze Chima. They know the real truth. Unfortunately, Oligbo later fell into the hands of the benins and was made a camp. The name was changed from Oligbo to Isi ile uku n'ori oba but the vast majority of the culture as well as the language wasn't changed.
