EZ Wax Worm, Holsinger's Fly Shop
The EZ Wax Worm is a very simple pattern created to imitate a wax worm. I had a previous video on a wax worm which included small appendages and took more time to tie. As I have progressed in my tying and fishing skills my flies have gotten smaller, simpler, and slimmer and this fly is no different. This is one fly to have in your box if you are a nymph fisherman. Most fly fisherman start out as bait fisherman and one of the most popular baits for trout is a wax worm. So I guess you could say tying this fly gets you back to your fishing roots.

Hi Shawn. Went out today to my favorite pond which was stocked several weeks ago with brookies, browns and a few rainbows. This is central Mass. The trout were rising. To what I couldn't tell. I tried ants, hoppers figuring terrestrials. I had one follow after more than an hour. As I was leaving a small bea like bug landed on me. Size of a small ant. There were number around. It looked waxy yellowish. I don't have anything like it and never saw one before size 14 maybe. I'll be trying to tie one. Any ideas?

That is a good question that I don’t really have an answer too. I hardly ever fish ponds especially for trout. My area is blessed with miles of great limestone streams. On theory I have that you may try is fishing a small chromonid or midge pattern. You can fish it under a small dry. When you see fish rising but nothing on top a lot of times they are feeding right under the surface or in the film. It just looks like the are feeding on top because they have to come up to catch their prey.
I use real waxworms they work great!

Does this catch/work as good as your earlier wax worm that has the legs.

I prefer this one. Those Legs are so small they don’t even need to be there.
