Ivy Hazel try using smaller brushes , tapping off excess , and using lighter colors and building up to dark . also try putting colors lower down on the crease instead of working above it .

Youre probably using stiff or the wrong brushes. Find very smooth brushes. Start with light and medium brown colours until u get used to dealing with eyeshadows

Girl, I'm 50 and I do so many of the dont's...lol I learned how to do my make up in the 80s then stopped wearing it for a long time after the cancer. I'm just now getting back into it, subbed to boxycharm and I am loving your videos! The new techniques are incredible and so gorgeous. Sign up for boxycharm. That's what I did. I threw out my cheap dollar store make up and it's $21 a month. I was in it for 3 months and got a ton of nice brushes and 3 eye shadow palettes, a contour kit, mascara. I do like elf make up brushes I get from dollar tree but the ones from boxy are high quality (like a $28 brush set) and it doesn't break the bank. I'll probably sign back up after the holidays. Also if you have a Ross Dress For Less, they often have great closeout make up that's normally more expensive. That's where I get my make up wipes for $3-4 a pack instead of the same price for crappy ones somewhere else.

No kidding. It should be an all make up application requirement. I do recommend the pause button rather than notes as you at least have a fighting chance...or I do as my handwriting is about as good as my makeup application. Good luck!

It’s insane that both eyes have the exact same lid shade, they look completely different in color family, tone, opacity, and shine. They don’t look like they could even be the same brand or caliber of quality at all. This just goes to show that putting in the effort to properly prep the eye, and taking the time to learn and understand the different uses for your tools is %100 worth it .

This was very helpful to me! I am in my 40’s and while I haven’t been doing all the “don’ts”, I have never broken the code on blending and getting the shadows right. That has personally helped me. Also, apply as close to your upper lash-line as possible. For lower lash line eyeliner, make sure you apply on the water-line, not below.

So late to the party, but I usually put setting powder on after I use concealer, just to make sure I really have no creasing. I do notice some fall out from my eye shadow that is difficult to remove after though. Great tips!

Buying quality makeup products are completely worth it to me. Even if I'm broke af I will save for quality products because there is such a difference. But I'm really into makeup and love to do full face makeup as much as I can. There are certain products you can find at a drugstore that give you the same or similar result but I for things like foundation, concealer, mascara, eyeliner and shadows I will pay for the brands with the best reviews that I know work for me. For example I never use drugstore foundation . I will gladly shell out 45 bucks for Estee Lauder Double Wear because it is the best foundation I've ever used and I can clearly see the difference. There is an amazing makeup setting spray I love by NYX and it's from a drugstore. I generally watch and read makeup reviews to see which drugstore brands can compare to the big names and try those.

I have redefined my makeup due to tutorials. I've learned about all kinds of stuff that had blessed me with no cake face on a simple level. Now thanks to u I can do my shadow right. I feel so nube.

I have no clue what to do with my make up. I would love to head out of the house with a properly contoured face and nicely done eyes, but I just make a mess each time I try. I LOVED how detailed you were with your explanation. Respect!!

Even though I’m 22; I’ve had little to no experience with applying make up, and I’m going to a very important event tonight, decided I don’t want to look like a child! Thank you, it helped a lot to see what I could do to make sure I don’t mess up with the DON’T list, but can create a good DO face. Haha

Maybe the way you handle the brush? My eyeshadow was coming out like the "don't" until I started practicing on handling the brush well

I've watched so many how-to videos and I think this one was my favorite! Very helpful and to-the-point.

Thay was really helpful. I'm a tomboy and usually wear little to no makeup m eye shadow was one of those things I could never quite get the hang of unless I went super lowkey that you could barely tell. I've always wanted to do a nice smokey eye (I did a really nice one for prom one year but never successfully again). Really awesome video! Thank you

I have the Rihanna Fenty highlighter/Contour/Concealer combination. They are FANTASTIC! The concealer blends so flawlessly!!

Great video! Most dos or don’t videos I find hard to understand but cuz you explained things with the brushes, tones of colour and pressure I’m looking forward to doing my eyeshadow!
