He could never sleep.
From birth, Micheal Larsen struggled to relax and close his eyes for the night. As a baby, his mother Kathy Averill strapped him into the car seat and drove around St. Paul in the middle of the night to lull her boy back to sleep.
As an adult, when he was working on an album, or a new project - which he almost always was - Larsen went through periods of mania that kept him awake and working for days on end.
"I don't think at any point in his life did he ever get eight hours of sleep," Averill said. "Sometimes it was hard to shut his brain off."
On Oct. 16, Larsen lost a lifelong battle against sleep. Exhausted and intoxicated, he fell face-first into his bed and never woke up.
In his wake, Larsen - who recorded with the bands Carbon Carousel and Face Candy, and under the aliases of Oliver Hart and, most famously, Eyedea - leaves thousands of pages of unpublished poetry and dozens of unreleased songs. That his work might long outlive him saddens Averill, but it would not have surprised her son.
"Mike always used to tell my mom he'd be more famous after he was dead," Averill said.

I really miss this guy, never met him in real life but his music gave everyone a glimpse into his genius and his pain. He was family and may he Rest In Peace forever.

Holy shit this is raw. I honestly feel so shitty about sleeping on Mikey with his new projects with Carousel, and other projects after E&A Day. This guy practically raised me. He got better and better. I can't believe he freestyles this shit.

@ArtIsGood4TheSoul Michael Larson always had trouble sleeping, he didn't have a prescription but he took opiates sometimes to sleep. The night of his death he was drunk and passed out face first on his bed from intoxication and exhaustion. It is most likely that he suffocated or choked in his sleep and couldn't cough himself awake because of the medication.
This is my favorite of these freestyles, I would love an instrumental, though it would rob me of this lovely freestyle.

@BitchesUnlimited Sadly a lot of people didn't recognize the talent Mikey held before he died, but none the less I'm glad you woke up and realized what an incredible artist eyedea was.
I listened to this and the other 4 rare freestyles untill I fell asleep, witch was last night. And then last night I had a very vivid dream of me looking out my kitchen window on a nice summer night and there was yellow and orange light balls coming in from the sky. Then I saw aliens in them as they got closer. Then everyone including my mom in the kitchen became demon-like and I killed them all with a knife. And a few people where there chilling on the couch like nothing was happening.

I actually don't like Eyedea's music that much, he has some good songs but other songs are meh. His freestyle ability was amazing though.
