I was fortunate enough to meet him. I played a show with him, opening up the show just a month before he died. Went too soon.

@@CH0MSKYH0NK Abilities played with Slug live in the early days, because Atmosphere was literally just Slug back then, doing double-duty while he & Mike were only teenagers touring the country. What happened later had to do with who Slug was willing to share his mainstream fame with once he hit MTV, and who he wasn't. There were massive inequalities at Rhymsayers, with virtually no money being given to Eyedea & Abilities to record and release albums for 5 years, while Mike's protigés (St. Francis & Brother Ali) he was assigned to make a hip-hop collective "workshop" with, got top billing despite just training under Eyedea. So Mike opened his own studio and released every album you currently enjoy. Rhymesayers eventually agreed to help distribute and promote By The Throat with a couple of music videos, but Slug was not a fan of the album, didn't make any album appearances like he does with all his new artists, and it mostly sat unappreciated until Eyedea died. Slug & Mike weren't on speaking terms the last years of his life. See Slug's interview with City Pages about Mike's death, and lyrics of the song Atmosphere finally released about him around 2017. Slug was jealous of Mike's skills from the jump. It's a tragedy ego got in the way of friendship and art. Mike made Rhymesayers what it is today. When he won the freestyle rap battle, he used that platform on HBO to promote Rhymesayers. He refused P Diddy's record deal, because he was anti-corporate, didn't want to be famous, and was LOYAL to Rhymesayers aka Slug. And in return, he was given ONE album - so he left. Slug also owes Abilities a huge amount of gratitude for technically being the first member of Atmosphere, besides Slug, and doing grueling back-to-back sets every single night on that hot summer festival tour.

Put this show on DVD. I'll buy it. Whatever you want to charge. I don't care.

Thanks but the reason it should be on dvd and sold is so more people will be exposed to this amazing artist. Right now youd have to search to find it, not to mention Kathy needs money shes a hard working lady and deserves every penny in the world

@twinfilmsmn Oh if you were to put the footage up for sale, I'd definitely say to a) ask Kathy first and b) put the profits towards Mikey's benefit, or just donate it to Kathy. I'm sure that much more footage will come out eventually... I just get eager for it sometimes, because it's the only way that you can really experience "new" performances now. If you know that there's a way to experience him again, sometimes, you just feel like you'll do anything to do that.
