If you have had previous refractive eye surgeries like LASIK, PRK, RK, Intraocular lenses (IOL's) with or without multifocal lenses, and with or without posterior capsulotomy, you will most likely STILL BE A CANDIDATE for treatment with the YAG laser for your vitreous eye floaters responsible for your spots, clouds, and other moving blurred spots in your vision. Dr. Johnson explains some of the optical considerations as well as the basics of eye optics and laser safety features.

The Floater Doctor, James H. Johnson M.D. is Medical Director of the only medical practice in the world specializing in, and exclusively treating bothersome spots, shadows, and clouds that affect your vision. Although common, especially changes such as posterior vitreous detachment (PVDs) as we age, these vitreous eye floaters are rarely offered treatment by your local and well qualified eye care providers, even at top specialty institutions. Dr. Johnson uses a specialized FDA-approved YAG laser to vaporize and destroy the proteins in the vitreous that are responsible for your spots, shadows, and moving blurred areas in your vision. He has been doing so since 2007 making him one of, if not the most experienced in the very specialty niche area in ophthalmology, a pioneer in this field.

Made me laugh when you said it increases your frustration level. I'm one of those patients with a multifocal. Just glad you were able to still zap away some floaters. It's scary to think there is no solution to these things.

As the senior at age of 71 having the past cataract operation for both eyes in year of 2018 as I wear my RX reading eyeglasses in early year of 2019, I have floaters in both eyes but there are no halos, no starbursts and no specks, and no black sides in both eyes. Questions: 1) Is YAG Laser effective for the older adults at 65 age and over?, 2) Honestly I have PVD and floaters in both eyes as I still wear my old RX reading eyeglasses, what are recommendations at best for the elderly adults? and 3) What are chances for elderly adults having the past cataract operation for both eyes and having floaters and PVD in successful recovery? Well I am the intelligent, well educated Gallaudet University graduate with B. A. in double majors of Biology and Chemistry with Class of 1981.- What’s your best advice to me in a concern? Christa D’Auria

The laser is MOSTLY effective for those over the ages of 45-50+ especially those with a completed PVD and rarely indicated for the younger floater sufferer.

what about phakic IOLS (the newer ones have a hole in the centre) ?

The pinhole effect? That will limit the ability to see at night. The pupil needs to open up to be able to see at night.

Those are optical aberrations that need to be evaluated locally. There is no simple answer.
