Eye Candy | The Crazy World of David LaChapelle - Exclusive Preview

Rent or download the complete film at vimeo: vimeo.com/ondemand/davidlacha...
Inspired by the great Andy Warhol, eccentric photographer David LaChapelle has created a surreal and boundless world where women are pictured swinging from crystal chandeliers, squashed by giant hamburgers and half-swallowed by sharks. Renowned for the wild imagination and erotic charge of his images, LaChapelle has become the hottest photographer of the moment, and celebrities are tripping over themselves to be made immortal by him. In New York roads are closed when his gallery opens a new exhibition, and in Italy he is known as 'the Fellini of photography'. Featuring the artist's shots of Justin Timberlake, Pamela Anderson and Elton John, this documentary follows LaChapelle while he works, exposing how and why his photographs come together. It tracks the input of his creative entourage as they transform studio surroundings, and delves into LaChapelle's complex sources of inspiration, as he grapples with the brutally commercialised and profoundly pornographic industry which he both embodies and satirises with one click of his shutter.

His crew is obviously a big part of the work he produces. Yes I get he’s an “artist” and probably does majority of the decision making, but you can’t deny that this is a collective. Big props to his lighting man too! Having someone who understands all the technicality is what helps bring his imagination to light. I really hope he pays them well.

What did they do to this guy as a 14 y.o. in NYC? I think they use and abuse these kids horrendously then “reward” the ones who survive with careers they would’ve never have had based on their talent levels. I shudder to think of what happened to him as a kid in the NYC scene of the 70’s. Gross!!!

Love his work, long time fan, but always found it odd that Andy Warhol gave him a massive, high-profile job as a photographer for Interview magazine despite being an extremely inexperienced photographer.

I don’t like all the shadows in his photos. His style doesn’t do much for me I just had an epiphany! Gay men are afraid of women. The divine feminine energy.

Yeah, don't like his palette or lighting. His women certainly are not attractive... the model looked so much cuter when she was having a smoke.
