I remember this happened once, we turned it on and it got super loud so me and my friend hid behind a chair waiting for it to explode, this was around 2010 when i was 7 or so

Consoles can’t explode unless they get summered in Water since it can destroy the power supply causing to explode or catch fire but just because a console is overheating it doesn’t mean is going to explode I’ll just turn itself off to prevent hardware damage

The fans on my 360 were spinning really fast too, even on the dashboard. I left some residue of the old thermal paste on the CPU and this seems to be what was causing it as I've just taken it apart again, made sure to wipe off all of the residue with isopropyl alcohol, applied some new thermal paste (also applied more of it than I did the first time) and now my fans are quiet. Also, I've heard you shouldn't use thermal paste that contains silver because if it spills over onto the chips, it can short them due to the silver being conductive. Perhaps this is what happened with your 360.

I was worried that mine was loud but after seeing this I have a lot of hope restored

To remove previous thermal paste, just use rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth (I use microfiber cloth. DO NOT use paper towels)

@Rawesyn Well it was over a year ago now but I believe I did what I intended to do in the video description but I also bought myself an RROD fix kit which included some thermal pads for the memory chips and some nuts & bolts to replace the X clamps.

The refurbished 360 i got does this, as in the fans speed up and stay at full speed. Any ideas why?

The same noise my Xbox 360 made when it hadn't been powered up in like the last 10 years. The only difference is that mine did not get an error.

I just got a old Xbox for 30 dollars it works but the fans are on full and they won't stop wtf

its because the heat sinks arent securely on the board pressing it down on the chips, thats what happened to mine to, just tighten the hell out of those screws and make sure the x clamps are good

xbmxnutzzx I ended up cleaning the heat sink grease off and put new one on the cpu and that solved my overheating problem.

@DubaholicDrop lol umm no, they weren't. It's kinda difficult to get the fans the wrong way around when they have notches at the top and the power cable is really short at an inch or 2.

That lil ole Xbox 360 sounds like a huge industrial engine!!! Does that machine operate on ancient rusty iron cogwheels?

Had the same problem .. At mine it was the thermal diode controlling the fans .. It is under the plastic thing on the heatsinks .. Just clean it and it will run pretty nice again

Don't worry. I'm not a fanboy. ;) PS3 SUC... Only joking lol. I'd love a PS3 to go with my 360 but I just cannot afford it right now. :( One of these days I'll have one, though!

I got my first 360 in 2022. It was one of the crappy ones without HDMI and it was loud like that one I replaced them, and now I use one that is quiet

It sounds really loud because its trying to cool down the Xbox. When you let I cool down 2 lights start flashing like in the video. That means its ready to go.

@J0eW00dy I know how much thermal paste to put on. The size of a pea. I don't really know why it was so loud. I can only assume a component was getting so hot that the fans had to work harder. Anyway, this is an old video now. I don't use this 360 anymore.

The joke thing about the fan is that when it’s hot outside and the a/c doesn’t work, you got the Xbox fan to cool you off.

@@Curlyheart Thank you for asking! I do still have this 360 but I managed to get hold of a replacement 360 many, many years ago and since moved onto Xbox One & PC. Sadly I let myself down and never had a PS3 in my life.

ha just got an old xbox 360 from a friend and it does the same thing. i cant tell is it making a slow pulsing noise or vibration by any chance?

its because its been over heated so many times the fans work extra hard then you get the red rings and if theres like 2 or 4 and wont go away instead of takin it apart and ruining your warranty just send it in or return it to the place you got it

I had the same issue today. Bearing in mind that I had taken the xbox apart before and successfully repaired it, it worked for about a month before dying. I took it apart, repeated the process and deliberately overheated the thing, as you're supposed to. The piece of crap sounded like a fighter jet and died about 15 minutes later. Once again, took it apart and made sure I did a more thorough job on it. Works now (woooo!) but the fucking sound is a bit weird, keeps cutting out *sigh*

Video posted on 24th January. It's now 31st January. I think I've let it cool down for quite a while! lol What I think the problem is is the left-over thermal paste that I left on the GPU that Microsoft had put on, as well as my Arctic Silver 5. I was using nail varnish remover to get rid of the thermal paste but it was taking forever. So I've ordered some Arcticlean. Google it. But thanks for the suggestion, anyway.

RCA you mean. No it wasn't that. I reckon the internal temperature monitor detected an overheat with the CPU and/or GPU thus put the fans on full speed. It's all sorted now anyway.
