I have been sewing for 60 years and never thought to do this. I have threaded the thread through the hole and held it when beginning the winding. You taught an old lady a new trick today! 😉❤

Me too 50 + years sewing and hundreds of YT videos and this is first time seeing it done this way. I love to learn news of doing things . The other part of this tip is to rotate the bobbin until the spring clicks into place with that other hole in the bobbin.
Are you SERIOUS? This is the exact reason the hole was put there in the first place - it isn't an "extremely interesting" use of the hole it is the INTENDED use of the hole. That is like saying, "Hey great idea, you can insert thread through that hole in the end of the needle!"🙄

True, but unfortunately that is not written anywhere in the instruction booklet that came with my machine nor have I seen it on any of the many sewing videos I’ve watched. One of my pet peeves about my machine is the poor quality of the instruction booklet (and yes, I understand that a hard copy of an instruction booklet is somewhat of a relic) and this is a perfect example. It never would have occurred to me to use that second hole that way so I’m appreciative of the info. I feel that it absolutely should be included in the info that comes with the machine.

Too fiddley. I wet my thread, wind it a few times then put it on spool. Never comes off.

Taught this at school. Haven’t done for years
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed this, I’m 71-years old and I have never known about this before. So very very helpful and useful too. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤
Wow! Youre never too old to learn, thanks
Fantastic advice! Thank you! For decades, I have never used the holes on my bobbins correctly. Now, I will.
Nice to post that. A lot of people did not know it. Nevertheless, the use of the hole is the first thing the dealer taught me when I bought my first sewing machine some 40 years ago.
Have been doing this since learning to sew...over 50 years...thought everyone knew that!

Me too. Don't mean to sound rude, but I can't believe no one ever "thought" of this before, it's like didn't they ever read the sewing machine manual that tells you how to wind the bobbin? Didn't they ever LOOK at the hole and figure it out? SHM...🙄

It's the way I've always done it and it's explained in the instruction book that came with my machine too.
That’s exactly how my machine instructions say to use it

Yeah, clearly a lot of people here never bothered to do that (or, for that matter, just use their common sense and figure it out before now. )

Mine don't. They show you threading it through the top hole and holding it. Might be an Elna thing.
I was taught this 55 years ago. Thanks for all those who never learned.
I learn that at school in 1980 thanks to Mrs Fox.
I see I am not the only one who sticks notes to my machines.
Ой, как же мне это надоело закручивать, затем вставлять. Спасибо огромное, очень приятно.
Gracias por la información 👍
I always done bobbin winding this way..
Gracias ❤❤
Had put the thread through one hole at the top then held on to it for a few seconds as the bobbin filled. This is a much better way. Thankyou!
I thought I'd learn something new here. But no. I've been threading my bobbins like this since 1972 when I started sewing

@@lisalu910 ~ but you “don’t mean to be rude”, right, as you previously stated? (Like you have been in every comment on this thread.) Guess your sewing manual, that you so diligently read and continue to point out, didn’t mention anything about kindness to people who don’t know as much as you.
Muito Obrigada pelo seu vídeo
Brava ,ho imparato quello che non sapevo!!! Grazie❤
Wow what a great idea
This is a neat idea. I'll try it next time. I always use a very fine crochet hook to thread the yarn through those small and - at my age - difficult to see holes.
Nice 👍
teşekkürler
Best idea 😍😍
Всегда делаю первым способом,так быстрее.
Yep that what you use the hole for! Strange that they don’t actually tell you when you buy the things or maybe I just haven’t read the packaging !
That’s a great idea. Can’t wait to try it. Thank you!

Just do what it says in your manual.
Seriously, that’s it. Firstly this is on the instruction books of sewing machine. The headline implies many alternate uses, so where are they? Because there are none. That was the only reason I watched this video.

@@southerngirlhandmadeknit Some people, like me, are astonished that someone posted this video to begin with, and even more astonished how many people don't know that this has ALWAYS been what the hole was there for. And maybe we just can't help but say so.
I couldn’t wait to try this, but unfortunately it didn’t work for a Pfaff bobbin because the holes are lined up differently. 😢
🥰🥰🥰🥰
I cant figure out how your threading the bobbin
I only have one hole on my bobbins :(

@Julie-rb6xz I agree learning new tricks are great and this is a good one.
Always done this, I was a child when taught to use a sewing machine and this was part of it, where's all the other stuff that seemingly I NEVER knew? To all who never knew this, then you haven't read instructions thoroughly! Click bait.

Sorry, didn't mean it to come across like that, my last 2 machines (both very old and both with more than 1 previous owner) had it in the instructions, one in a little useful tip box to the side the earlier one as part of the setting your machine up guide, my nana taught me it first though. I've been very lucky that both my nana and my mum were self taught, so they'd found things out through trial and error, I'm still doing that now and so excited about my new to me machine, the Husqvarna Viking Designer 1. Embroidery and sewing machine, a little scared to set it up but still excited, have to clear off my work bench first so may be a while. Do hope I didn't cause you any offence with my previous comment, sincerely none meant to anyone. ❤🧵❤

@@Julie-rb6xz Anybody should know this, that is the point. The bobbin was designed for this very purpose, you didn't "discover" something new. You just never read the instructions that came with your machine. What did you THINK that hole was there for??

@@lisalu910it doesn't say this in my manual on my Brother. I have only been sewing for a year so I showed this to my mom, she's been sewing since I was knee high to a grasshopper and on several different machines, and she didn't know this either.
