It feels like such a hopeless situation and you have no idea where to even begin to start to fix it. It has undoubtedly made a huge difference in so many people’s lives for her to help in this way. This is common in a lot of places around the world. I am in Vietnam, and that is how the bathroom works here as well. Even down to the washer draining out onto the floor and into the open floor drain, as you can see in the video as well (under the sink). To be honest, it only really works well if you have good ventilation and proper floor angles. Without those, the bathroom will stay extremely damp and you will end up with mildew issues. You will also need to always wear sandals in the bathroom or your feet will get wet and track water throughout the rest of the house. But it does make for easy cleaning. Even in more 'modern' bathrooms where the tub/shower is fully enclosed rather than open with just a shower head mounted on the wall, they will still include a floor drain for bathroom cleaning purposes.

Hey I’m wondering if I can get some advise, my mother is a hoarder and she hoards random items not necessarily junk, a lot of decorations, tools and furniture. I really want to help clean the house cause there’s barely a walk way. I find it really hard to get rid of items that I personally don’t see necessary but she says it is. When I ask her if she still wants stuff she gets mad and takes a bunch to her room. Her bedroom is a huge problem, she likes to sew so she has kept every fabric since my siblings and I were kids. Her floor is covered in bags and bins of laundry. Long story short, how can I help her donate items without making her upset?

This is the first time I've watched one of her videos and I am so impressed with her attitude. I've had a cluttered space my whole life and I've been shamed by "tidy" people. She is just excited by the mess and sees it as a challenge. Doesn't call the client "gross" or anything like that. She's just happy to be there. So often tidy people use their tidy habits as a means to feel superior to less tidy people.

There is a difference between clutter, tidy and clean. I am a maximalist but I still clean and maintain my home. Tidy is the bare minimum of cleaning up after ones self. Then there is cleaning. If it’s dirty or like this home then it’s definitely not cluttered it’s dirty and on the brink of hoarder disorder. It’s a good thing there is hope and help for people who struggle with this. Also if you struggle with this then just do a small portion. Someone who I have adored lately is a hoarders heart you may like her as well. Good luck with cleaning and maintaining your home. 😊

It also isn’t fair to expose your children and pets to a dirty environment as that could lead to health issues for them sooner or later. Pls just keep your home basically clean - for your kids, for you and for your neighbourhood.

As someone who suffers from depression, this made me emotional and motivated. I've never let my apartment get anywhere near this bad. But sometimes my kitchen and my bedroom do become quite cluttered, and that can have a snowball effect. The more messy it gets the less you want to deal with it. Then you cook less, spend more on delivery/take out, and it spirals from there. It's always so cathartic to finally do that deep clean though whenever I work up the motivation. I think I'll do that today after watching this.

While it isn't nearly as bad as in this video, I am basically living on a landfill. It's been almost a year since I've let anyone in, after that I've just been too ashamed and not wanting anyone to see the mess in which I'm living. Came across this video on my recommendations and I'm actually crying right now: not the tiniest bit of judgement or disrespect, just willing to help. Don't know why, but somehow this does indeed build up the motivation. I know I'll do something tomorrow, even if it's as little as picking up the toilet rolls from the bathroom floor but it's a start, and I'm going to do that.

Hi Katariina, I have come across your videos only recently and I LOVE THEM. They are very satisfying to watch. I have just a piece of advice for anyone whose fridge or pantry contains rotten food, especially if their fridge is in such a bad state as the one from this video. If there are many types of rotten and moldy food, NOTHING can be saved. EVERYTHING has to be thrown away. Mold and bacteria spread incredibly wide and they get onto and into every container in the fridge if the containers are not air-tight. It is also important to wipe the entire fridge with vinegar to disinfect it. Just cleaning it with regular detergents does not kill the mold and bacteria. And mold is VERY dangerous. It can cause breathing problems, skin problems, asthma, allergies, pneumonia, and even cancer. So I think that in really bad apartments you should wear a respirator to protect yourself. Good luck with your amazing job and be safe.

Around 2009 I developed depression after I got lung surgery for a rare condition I was suffering from. I was 18 years old and still living with my parents. I remember I struggled to go out of my room and I gradually let everything accumulate. I had hundreds of books laying around, cluttering the sides of my bed, the shelves, my parent’s living room and closets. My clothes where in a closet but piled up in an untidy, unstructured blob. The house still looked clean but only because I tried to hide away the clutter.. watching your videos made me realize that my untidiness was a direct result of my depression. Some family members used to come to the house saying that it looked like a depository more than a home. I used to feel so guilty, but I was clueless as to what to do. Now I live in a very tidy and organized space, I enjoy cleaning and I still feel like I have a long way to go before I can improve. Objects don’t rule my life anymore! Thank you for what you do ✨ you are a light in this world, Auri!

I understand exactly where you are coming from and it can look like a massive mountain to climb......I just do a little every day and take breaks, it takes time but having something nice to listen to in the background helps too, whether music, talk radio or an audio book, a pleasant noise really makes it less dreadful and it goes by quicker. All the best ☺️

People make comments about them not keeping up after cleaning. From first hand experience I’ve found that when my house got crazy it was easier to avoid it because it was too exhausting and overwhelming to clean. You’d be surprised to know that a lot of these people are cleaning & organization nuts mentally, which creates chaos in their brain and overstimulation causing them to not function enough to do this for themselves. A truly messy or “dirty” person would be able to assess the mess and keep it manageable to their comfort.

@@DonaBranca735 just because a person has a lot of trash in their home doesn't make them a hoarder. i don't think this girl has a compulsive need to keep trash she doesn't need. it's most likely that her severe depression just didn't allow her to properly clean her home and the trash just built up over the months/years. there is a difference and it just seemed unnecessary to include the possibility that she might be a hoarder when it was already explained that she has depression.
