Hi Ann! Audio is very nice -- no clipping distortion, and significant stereo spread. Are these the built in RX100vii mics?

Yes. Tweaked slightly in premiere pro. I was right in front of the soundboard. I'm sure they hated me.

I've been saying for awhile that the band needs to tune down. Gary is going to wreck his voice by shouting these songs. He has always had a unique approach to singing. His natural voice is very soft and smooth but he belts higher parts with the exception of falsetto. From my amateur singing viewpoint, he's tensing his throat in an attempt to hit notes out of his current range. He needs a pro vocal coach to help him sing more from his head. He had problems with his voice before (I think around Punchline) and he sounded rough on VH3 because he was still recovering. I thought he recovered pretty well on the VH3 tour, although he still shouted. He and the band would sound much better a half-step down with Gary taking some lower harmonies. Nuno can hit Gary's parts during the three-part harmonies.

Mate, I've been trying to formulate that for years, don't think I'd have been able to articulate it so well. On the subject of half-tones did you notice that Rise in in standard tuning? Wonder why...

Gary might have some trouble with his in-ear system... he checked his in-ear monitor many times and still was off-key... Hope you come back with his hi-tone voice.

Why don’t you just let Gary worry about Gary..unless you are a professional singer..(I am) only he knows what he needs to sing at his age..just enjoy the fact that we can all watch a show and not pick it apart? He doesn’t come to your job critiquing your performance now does he? Fookin internet generation

Is Gary sick or something? According to setlist a bunch of the songs on Saturday in Boston were “shortened”

Back in early days he was very good. I think it’s a bit harsh to say he was never good. I don’t know if his technique and mechanics have deteriorated his voice, but he has clearly lost a lot. Perhaps just age has caught up with his hyperextended style of vocals. All singers start losing something with FatherTime. Group can still kick ass instrumentally however.

Man Gary sounds rough on some of this - Rainbow definitely doesn’t translate well to the live stage 😨 First night though, hopefully he’ll be on form by the time they get around to the UK in November.

Hopefully his in-ears were the issue and he couldn’t hear himself sing. He is 62, something has to give.

@@endtyme1345 I’d love to see a video by a vocal coach such as Ken Tamplin explaining what the vocal technique is that Gary’s using in the studio to sing those soaring high vocals, and why it can’t be used - or is difficult to use - in a live setting. And with that said, there’d be an argument for saying well don’t use it at all then. Write and record melodies that you can sing live. In the meantime maybe the band could tune down an extra half or whole step to help him out. Its a long tour and it’s not going to be much fun for him (or the audience…) if he’s struggling night after night.

@@guitardave Agreed pal. Every word. I already listened "Banshee", "Other Side Of The Rainbow" and two more tracks and all sounds really bad. Not only Cherone is struggling with the songs but Nuno with the guitar intonation and vocals (he's singing better than Cherone actually) must be a really stressful situation for the band.

Gary fa fatica ma complessivamente fa un discreto lavoro. È da considerare che ha più di 60 anni e merita tutto il rispetto. Ps: il suono di tutti è pessimo nonostante le ottime esecuzioni.

Thought it was just me who thought Gary sounded awful. He has never had the best vocal and is more a front man than vocalist. Totally misses those high vocals on Rainbow middle 8 and relies on Pats high vocal to nail it. If you can’t do it live, don’t put it on the record.

@@MikefromOutrage-hb7rf Yes. Agreed. But it's a mess unfortunately. Must be really stressful, especially for Nuno to try to balance this "orchestra" u know. You can see him actually dealing through vocal & guitar intonation at such a speed you can even notice but he's there. Doing it.

I have always liked this band, but I absolutely HATE the lead singer. His voice grates on my ears, and most of the time he is trading vocal power for vocal pitch. I think Nuno is a much better singer, but I am sure that he doesn't want the "front man" position, because it would distract from his amazing rhythm playing that happens during the lead vocal parts, but I think that they really need to find a diferent lead singer. He is the reason that none of their music ever made it into my collection. Everyone else is amazing.
