Extreme Optics and Imaging (EXTREME)

Demo: Demonstration of a 10cm (~4in) planar metalens, which is a world record in size for a visible spectrum metalens. This metalens technology, developed by Harvard University, is enabling for technologies such as UAS imaging systems with five optical elements to be replaced with only three elements resulting in either 4x enhancement in resolution for the same SWaP of existing systems or 10x enchantment in SWaP for the same resolution.

    Idea: use this methodology to create a 3d light printer that filters materials in "air" and uses the laser build a solid object. At small enough level the mechanism could 3d print anything layer upon microscopic layer to a finished product.

    Is purple nvg/dvg reverse thermal a thing yet?or optics for long range with bi nocks for both eyes so the mind doesn't have to work harder focusing.

    it will eventually and it would lead to better resolution for things like medical imaging diagnosis or other useful measurements , basically turning the smartphone into something akin to a tricorder from star trek

    @@Vor10min. sure, its too expensive for now and presently has limited applications however, its price will likely come down as manufacturing techniques and scale improve over time provided it is driven by sufficient demand... the demand side is a matter of it being able to save time (important for medical applications) or provide a viable alternative to more expensive methods of achieving the same result... the medical application alone might be more affordable to pathology clinics to start with, but over time general medical clinics would likely find it more efficient and economical to do such work in house ... there are other factors to consider, e.g. the aging population globally will increase demand for pathology services which will benefit from the evolutionary nature of this tech also, due to the products adaptability to existing tech (smartphones) integrating it into existing business practices will be much simpler (than say, installing mri machines)as its evolutionary aspects are already in demand .... its revolutionary aspects are still yet to be fully realised just some food for thought

    @@Vor10min. indeed, even the humble rock has been developed from ancient times from simply being thrown, to being shaped and fired from a bow to being developed into modern precision guided munitions... (not to mention someone strapping a few sticks together to crewate a shield to block it etc etc ) ... as to have the production methods ... all for military use ... along the way they also figured out how to combine enough rocks of the right type to create computers and satellites etc etc etc ...

    Practically weightless by comparison to anything currently made. My dads new cassegrain telescope is much smaller than the older newtonian, but something made with these could be ridiculously light, especially if the tube was carbon composite. Though I guess the lighter it is the easier a stray wind can move it 🤔

    @@JameBlack системы вооружены, я сам могу сделать, так что не переживай. Могу сделать и ракету, и систему наведения, как радиолокационную, тепловую головку самонаведения, так и цифровую матрицу головки самонаведенияния - селекции цели. Так же и сделать по данному принципу действия наземных систем. Для меня это просто. Так, что не переживай сильно, а то задница лопнет.

    if they are releasing the info publicly., its likely already in use .. obviously, releasing it publicly means research is done on commercial applications and uses and manufacturing techniques to bring down manufacturing costs and help fund the research costs to spur further developments
