I loved this game and the feeling of joy you got by breaking the sound barrier :D

As soon as I noticed this in the game, I tried to do it endlessly. What an awesome little addition to the game.

WOW this game brings back sooo many memories of when games were fun and simple. good times ppl.

Doing calculations sound barrier is reached exatly at 300m/s I did this conversion when I played it about 8 years ago. It is called Match1.

You don't know what your missing, once the makers fix the steam version of it give it a try.

for real. back in the day when game systems were still commonly being compared in their bit sizes. 64 being 64bit and Dreamcast and PS2 being 128bit. Dreamcast was a huge deal when it came out too ;p thats when gaming got real noticeable. 8)

Man, I remember when Extreme G came out. I played the hell out of that game! Then next thing you know, EG2 is coming! Don't you know how impressed I was about the attention to detail? The Level Designer added chasing UFO's while speeding down this one zany track. I actually try to slow down to see the graphics. They were soooo damn good. OMG! Plus the sound effects were twitterific! / Maskedbishop. Loved the way the tires sound on the road when idling or just crusing.

Wipeout did in fact come first, by about two years. However, F-Zero came about 5 years before that. There was also a PC-only game that came out around the same time, that I don't recall the title. Really, F-Zero was the first.

its cool the game has such a feature. the first game I can think of that did so.

XG-2 had the HOTTEST sound track man 4real. sometimes i would just turn the game on and let the music play from the options screen. yall know what im talkin bout. YYYYEEEEAAAAHHHH!!!

If you use your own boost right before the track boost, you get a much stronger boost, resulting in more time in ultra sonic speed.

oh bummer on XG3! I'll still give it a shot just to see and because I love the series. Thanks for the wealth of info on speed of sound and such! ;D speaking of which..any of you see the Ironman movie trailer? that was nuts!

this game needs to be brought back so badly..to bad acclaim lost the rights to it..

Well actually the speed of sound on air is 330m/s (P = 1atm) and it depends on density and temperature, and the more elevation the less density. The reason because you can hear a strong noise when you reach that speed is because of the acoustic waves compression (called Doppler Effect) after thath you can't hear your own sound :)

I did a little research on this game and it's creators and I found that Tron was the basis for this game lol the creator liked those tron bikes so much he made a real game of it lol

i always preferred this series to wipeout both great franchises, but something about hugging the ground made me happy :)

With the top bike I was able to hold between 800-900 for about 10 seconds! How I love XG!!!

I don't remember XG3 very well, but I saw it for GC long long time ago. I love XG1 music,actually I got the sound track, and I'm doing some techno (and intrumental) music with "Reason" software.

i don't think they do, i loved this game. We totally need a version of this on 360/ps3... it'd be beautiful!

I LOVED that game so much. So much chaos and speed. Especially if you used the double boost. I'd hit like 1000 (barely) using that one black and white/red car that you unlocked..ya know the one that goes from 0-200 in .5 seconds..? lol.

The song is the Eschaton world theme music in the game. Though personally, I like the Tethra, Hydra Prime, and Tox City themes in the game. As for artist, not sure. Probably would have to look through the end game credits to figure that out.

XG2 is more intense with the weapons and courses. I like it equally to the first one that was also on N64. both trippy futuristic racers.

Spectre is an awesome bike. tho, he still couldn't beat those insane ghost times. the little wite ghostss that speed ahead. I forgot what mode it was where you can race them. All I remember is I beat a ton of single player on various difficulties.

if you use one of the secret bikes you don't even need to use a nitro to do it

i remember this game all too well even though i havent played it in years. i still know all the cheat codes and the password to unlock the three superbikes and all track variations... but i can't remember where i put my car keys... oh well :P

Yes and no. The original company went under in 2004 and the ACCLAIM name were bought out to keep their legacy going. Wikipedia has a good page about them 8) I hope they make more great games and ones I could be interested in.

@RedSunCZE id love to see wipeout ships race exg bikes actually..i think itd be a fairly close race...if the wipeout ships handicapped their speed abit :/

Wipeout came in 96 and ExtremeG in 97 I think. and the first F-Zero beat them both on SNES

yo if you get the bike spectre and you maintain control staying off the walls, you can break the sound barrier and hold it all the way through the track. but it takes skills cuz SPECTRE is the fastest bike in the game

This game is only like 10 years old.

Boomsta is much better for this. She breaks the sound barrier pretty much without trying on this course. I use Velofire, though, and with her is is possible to break the sound barrier on wide enough turns (thanks to the way the game handles turning when you don't brake or use the "R" button.) Man I haven't looked at this game in years...

I rememb er going into practice just to break the sound barrier, prob the first game that let u do that.

Should of used Spectre to break the sound barrier.

oh yeah also I thought I remember if you went super fast, your screen went fisheye and turned upside down? or maybe that was only with the fisheye cheat on I dont remember its been a long time haha

lol, that's weak, when i had my N64, i used the black Sceptre bike and was above sound barrier for entire lap... no hax, that track was my fav, and knew every turn. Was sweet, hearing no bike sounds for entire lap :)

Ballistics racers go much faster, i've seen them get up to 2200 in one race.

I have a cheat for u XD it always works, Its called XXX this meakes ur bike speed up faster, and i'm serious, i've used these cheats my self, i usually use the Freaker and Velo ^_^ there the best. oh i also forgot u gotta press R and then enter the name xxx it then will say Extreme with a female whisper.

nice.. now try it with a superbike and enter u name like XXX to be more faster

This game looks like a WipeOut but WipeOut is better i thing, but yes, i love Nintendo 64, i still have it :)
