@@jasonsimms8251because destroyed the foreststs so rapidly future generations will have to read about it in textbooks and plantations grown trees only allow for a few harvests. Our current forestry practices are not sustainable.

That tree could have been 2000 or 3000 years old. We are here for so short of time , they have been for so long. Does not seem fair! I'm no tree hugger, but I do consider their value to the earth.

I too do not like to see those old growth trees cut down, but if and only if it is proper forest management would I approve. 2000+ old trees are a national treasure. 25 to 200 year old trees can be replaced by new plantings. And are renewable source for homes or paper bags.

@My Dixie Wrecked ash bats are rare today - because of the ash borer. Maple has dominated the scene for the last 20 years. But more players are now switching to birch. They say it seems to have the durability and flexibility of ash, but the hardness and solidity of maple. I haven't had a chance to personally hit with birch, but would be eager to if I am able to purchase a birch bat at some point. Would also like to try hickory that's been kiln dried with modern kilning processes (but that will never happen, so... I'll keep dreaming).

@My Dixie Wrecked they did. My set of clubs are old persimmon woods 😎. I love them. I'm guessing persimmon is most likely too heavy to used for a bat, but I can't say for sure. I did some research about 15yrs ago on different woods, looking for an alternative to maple that would be more similar to ash. Birch seemed like a good alternative, but there was something that was missing. I was also looking at some exotic woods, but I don't recall them either at the moment. Persimmon is not one I recall coming across, but it is definitely worth a thought.

@My Dixie Wrecked lol that was a long time ago. Beechwood does ring a bell. Sycamore does not. But I believe beechwood was one of the ones that kept popping up as another contender.

I assure you, they don't have or need luck. It's skill. Skill shows in your work, day after day. You have nothing to do with injury or fatalities they suffer, bad juju eye or not. The work is just that dangerous, ipso facto..

The saddest part of this is those trees have stood there on this earth for hundreds of years quietly and invisibly living their lives and then along comes a human being with a chain saw and the life is snuffed out in minutes as though it never existed. And for what? Toilet paper.

Just think of how many of these big dudes hit the ground during the great toilet paper shortage epidemic. Research suggests 91% of people use more toilet paper than they need to per wipe. 74% use 10 squares or more per wipe only using one side. True shit.

@@arunc4248 Points is, we need resources , and if things are done sustainably, there is no problem with cutting them down. It all about balance , humans struggle with that , the tree huggers want modern society but with out cutting down trees, the companies cut down trees for profit and forgets sustainability. Not of the two sides are in the right ... we need to cut down trees , but we need to do it sustainably.

Деревья поглощают углекислый газ и выделяют кислород. Эти великаны стоят по 5 000 лет, и там нет намека на трухлявость. У многих народностей деревьям поглоняются как божествам.

Dangerous work. The old time loggers of the west coast who felled giant redwoods and Doug firs were real studs. There were no chainsaws, just crosscut and axes with wedges.
