Ohhhh!!!! I like this!!!! I learned a lot!!! My hair is mostly low porosity. I used to cut off a lot of hair because the middle sections were frizzy and the ends were defined. Thought I had heat damage, I don't even straighten or blowdry my hair ... I love clay washes!!! They work beautifully on my hair. I actually get defined hair with no product and airdrying. And finger detangling!!! Thanks, I'm gonna try the squeeze before washing.

After watching your video, I realize I have been moisturizing my hair so wrong. I always considered my hair normal porosity and would wonder why after wetting my hair, certain sections remained frizzy or wouldn't look as wet. It's because I have more low porosity hair than normal. Your hair is so similar to mine. This video was super helpful, thank you! Oh, and your hair is gorgeous. :)

This was the best hair video I've watched since being natural. You helped me confirm my low porosity textured hair. I appreciated seeing what low porosity hair looked like, I rarely see any KZreadrs whose hair look and feel like mine when showcasing their regimens. Highly informative! thank you!

OMG!! If only I had found you over a year or so ago. I was normal porosity or I thought so. But now I finally realize I'm low in basically the same sections you are. This past year the breakage in my crown from dryness, has me wanting to big chop my hair. But, watching this video gives me hope! Thank You!

By far your channel is one of the best, informative on KZread. You being a hair care Professional, is an added plus. I recently learned I have low porosity hair, after being natural for 2, going on 3 years, I could not figure out why my hair wasn't retaining length after a while, until now. I was literally taking care of my hair all wrong. Your tips have been beyond helpful. It's only been a week, that I have been subscribed to you & watching your videos. I already can see and feel a difference in my hair. THANK YOU!

I surely appreciate all the you do to help us curly girls learn about our hair. I get so confused when you...or anyone, that is..... talk about porosity. I get the part about the moisture in and the moisture out and all of that but to look at my hair and determine by the way it acts if it is high or low porosity is just never going to happen. I can only imagine that I must not be the only curly girl who is confused by all the talk about it. In researching low and high porosity and how to tell what kind of hair I might have I found an actual test where you put a clean hair in a glass of water and if it floats then you have low porosity hair and if it sinks to the bottom of the glass you have high porosity hair. Well, I have to tell you that was soooo simple!! A light bulb moment if you will. So much simpler than all the fussing with looking at my hair trying to figure it out. Finally!! And it may not be scientific but I have to tell you that it works. For the first time in my life I am now able to choose the correct products for my hair that really work. I had no idea my hair could look and feel so wonderful by choosing products. My hair hates protein! And what have I been doing all my life.....yep, using products that contain protein.....because 98% of all hair products contain some sort of protein. What a difference a hair in a glass makes. I can only imagine that your followers would be very pleased if you shared this info with them. Thanks again! Oops! One other thing I wanted to mention is that I have learned from conversations with product manufacturers and reading how to apply products that the proper sequence for products is.....shampoo, condition, moisturize with a leave in and then gel. The gel is always applied last to retain and seal in the moisture and control frizz. Another light bulb moment! ;) Keep up the good work.

+Melanin Pinkkk The Cherry Lola treatment involves the use of Baking Soda to raise the pH of the conditioner. It appears to work wonderfully for a period of time but eventually the cuticle layer of your hair strand becomes very weak and damaged. People who try this method find that overtime, which varies from person to person, the hair becomes dry and brittle. That is because the cuticle layer is so damaged it is no longer able to hold in moisture. It takes the hair from low porosity to high porosity...another struggle. I encourage NOT to do this method.

Hi Abena just wanted to give you a brief update. I purchased Aveda shampoo & volumizing clay conditioner & I like them. The shampoo cleanses my hair without leaving it feeling stripped & the conditioner adds moisture. This is is my 2nd week trying them and it's getting better. The first week I had tons of tangles! I My fault! I neglected to deep condition but I won't do that again!!! I deep conditioned overnight with Deva Heaven in Hair then shampooed & conditioned the next day. (we have really hard water here in California - I use a shower filter - and a drought so I've got to be sparing with the water. 😔). Anyway I moisturized with the Butter than Love Pudding, added the Curl Control Styling Lotion & last of all the Get Set Hair Jelly. I'm happy with the results. I have more volume than previously. It's not voluminous but better than before. 👍🏽👌🏽Thank you so much for all of your help in making my natural hair journey more enjoyable. I'm looking forward to your future vids.

Thank you so much, I finally understood why my deep conditioning was not working (I was just moisturizing my hair and not washing them with a clarifying shampoo). Thanks to you, everything changed for the best! I wash my hair with Calia purifying shampoo for dry hair I have 3 B/C low porosity hair. After the deep conditioning, (DIY: honey + olive oil+ glycerin) I wash my scalp using a mix of Amla and Shikakai powder with 3 drops of Ylang ylang essential oil. I condition with Garnier (French brand, sulfate and silicon free) Olive oil mask or Sante (organic german brand) normal hair detangler. Then I use Acure Leave-in conditionner + a touch of organic almond or jojoba oil on the ends. I twist brands of hair all over my head And I let my hair dry naturally. Twice a week I co-wash with sante detangler and I just put the Acure leave in conditioner and then I start again with a clarifying shampoo. Thanks to your advice, my hair look amazing. If you have another advice for me...

Hi there. I’m a low porosity girl as well. This vid was helpful. My tips are that heavy creams don’t seem to penetrate my hair. I usually put the heavy cream in a spray bottle and water it down with water or aloe juice if I’m feeling fancy and apply in the shower then apply a light oil. My preferred oil is sweet almond to seal and it helps my hair retain the moisture better.

Natalia Inoa Hi Natalia, when I use the clay cleanser I do not sit under the dryer or steamer. I simply cleanse my scalp then apply more of the clay to saturate my hair so I can detangle with it. The clay contains a blend of oils that help make the hair slippery enough for detangling and it conditions as the same time. I use Wonder Curl Butter Than Love Pudding as my moisturizer and the Curl Control Styler Lotion and the Get Set Hair Jelly by Wonder Curl for styling my washngos. My normal porosity hair air dries in 2 hours. The Low Porosity area takes all day to air dry. I hope this helps!! :-)

Very interesting video. My overall porosity is normal but at the crown and on one side of the front of my hair seems to be low but it actually opens up rather quickly to receive the moisture I'm not sure about this but when using a clay wash, my hair defines uniformly all Over. I apply it to dry hair and the effect is different than if I wet it first. Seems the clay (mixed with ACJ) penetrates faster. Does clay have an effect on porosity?

OMG you are so right! I had gotten my hair braided and my mom used my water and aloe Vera juice mix (which I kept refrigerated bc that's how a natural KZreadr did it) not knowing I had low porosity hair... And my mom sprayed that in my hair and then used some oils and moisturizer and my hair was just so oily and after a few days my braids are dry... So now it all makes sense now!! Plus I had got my hair dyed as well.. So I have a lot of growing my hair out to do! I don't want to big chop so I'll be patent! But thank you so much! Now I actually took my water and aloe Vera mix out of refrigerator and now it's on my room! Also, how will you know if your conditioner is thick or thin?

Okay. Think i get it now! Watched this over and over. Quick question, after detangling & rinsing out conditioner, would you remove the 'excess' water THEN add the warmed up leave in or are you applying the leave in to soaking wet hair? tia

Hello, I've been watching your videos on KZread and I am a little confused about retaining moisture because of so many different KZread videos I've watched and so many techniques being used. Most of the top and sides of my hair is low porosity. First I heard that Shae moisture and most oils are not good for the hair because after a while it acts as silicone effect and just sits on top of the hair, not allowing moisture to come in while the hair gets dry and brittle underneath the shield of oils and butters. My hair is 4 years natural and in my opinion it hasn't been retaining length, it looks almost identical to how your hair looked in your video " How I maintained moisture 9 days" I was wondering what to do if the majority of the hair is low porosity, what can I do to retain moisture if most of my hair is stubborn in absorbing and retaining it?

Thanks for your information! Would sitting under a Pibbs dryer with plastic cap make a good substitute for a steamer? If I have dry, lo po 4c hair, do steamers help? What do you recommend

Hi Abena! Would you be able to possibly do a video on how to retain moisture on high porosity hair? I know you have low porosity but I can't find many on high porosity hair

Thank you so much. This was most helpful video I have watched. I have low porosity hair and for the longest I have been struggling to retain moisture. My hair would generally get really dry and sometimes itchy. 👏😭😌

My sister informative video. I have low porosity thick 4c gray hair. That being said I struggle with split and broken ends. I have no idea what products to use to maintain moisture for a wash and go. My hair does not like Shea butter. Please any suggestion?
