Exposing the shocking truth: WA MPs vote to leave babies to die

Shockingly, this month WA MPs voted AGAINST an amendment that would have entitled all West Australians babies to an equal right to medical care after birth. This amendment was proposed by Labor MP Kate Doust and was based on a requirement to treat children born alive after an abortion no different to other children born in WA. A majority of WA Upper House MPs voted against this amendment.
Birth equality means that all newborns have the same rights and are treated equally by the law and in medical practice. This is not the case across Australia. Only two states protect the rights of babies born alive after an abortion: NSW and SA.
This is why we need a federal law to create national protection for all Australian children from first breath.
