So I “accidentally” hacked the system for the birthday gifts this year... I got two. I ordered online some stuff and added my birthday gift to the cart and made my purchase. Then the next day I was out and walked into a sephora, just seeing what would happen I asked for my birthday gift and I got the other set I wanted. 🤷🏻‍♀️ now I have the urban decay gift and the drunk elephant one too

I never understood why some Sephora employees were stingy with samples. They are losing nothing and neither is Sephora. Do they not understand how marketing works? Sephora doesn't have the sample policy out of kindness; it's literally both earning and saving them money.

As a former employee of Sephora we are instructed to only give out a maximum of 3 samples each day by management. However, I personally don’t mind it when people ask for more. I completely understand wanting to trying something before committing to the full size because things are quite pricey.

S Kael asking for 2 or 3 samples is fine. But when you ask for excessive samples, you are taking time away from the employee. Valuable time he/she could be using to help customers who actually want to buy.

The main reason is because of getting in trouble for spending too long with a customer who doesn’t have intent to buy. Leaders will coach on not pursuing clients wanting to spend, and wasting time with sample-crazies. I think 3 samples from any store is quite generous for wanting to try a few things while there.

Lesly Artistry honesty I want to try everything all in one store trip usually when I get off work without my kids. Then usually by the end of the week I come back and just get everything I liked quick trip and usually ask for the person who gave me the samples. I don’t like returning items. I once had to go to three different store to exchange a fenty foundation since it oxidized. I understand that many do go in just to waste time so I appreciate the ones that help w/smile

I also am a Sephora employee and we have managers in our ear all the time telling us to check on everyone in our area. That’s what you’re supposed to do

Paula Samira it’s pretty easy to enter the Sephora world if you have two years of experience in retail you can start as a cashier and Sephora allows you to grow and become certified in whatever you want

I worked at Sephora and yea you can get samples of most setting sprays in perfume sprayers. But the one Mar wanted was an aerosol can so it kinda dries as a powder once its out of the can.

Some of these “tricks” are and aren’t true! As a former Sephora manager 1. SAMPLES: It’s honestly up to the employee.. because the staff had to do what was best for the client. A limit of 3 samples is only a thing for different reasons. Sometimes if the store is busy so that there isn’t so much time taken just making samples for one client. 2. BIRTHDAY GIFT: Also long as they have the birthday gift and you haven’t received it. You can get it any time of the year. The ONLY reason they say “your birthday month” is because the system only tells the employee two-ish weeks right before and right after your birthday when they enter your info. Which is why they have to go digging around thru your history to make sure. 3. POINTS: The system won’t go to negative. Most of the time if a client wanted a freebie but didn’t have enough points I’d just give it to them. A few points won’t hurt the employee or the store. Like I said DO WHATS BEST FOR THE CLIENT!!

And more at that.. . but i did recently go to a bougie sephora in clackamas and the rep absolutely gave me my birthday gift, my bday was in june, I was absolutely ecstatic to get a mars bronzer!!!! Sometimes I would give ppl a couple more samples if I’m bored or it’s someone I know but I mainly stuck to the 3 bcuz I would get so annoyed making samples for almost every person asking me to help them. I was too nice when I worked at Sephora I’d hook ppl up with free mailers every now and then just to make their day better especially the sweet old ladies and men shopping for their wives

The lady that helped you out was a brand rep and probably didn’t know about about the “rules” for samples. If it can be scooped out or poured you can get a sample of it. But you can go and scrape a blush or a compact and mess it up just so ONE person can try it.

It doesn’t bother me but I agree, I’m nowhere NEAR good enough with makeup to be shopping at Sephora imo, it would be a huge waste of my money. What good is a $70 brush going to do for me if I don’t even know where it’s made to be used most effectively. I go to Ulta and get cheaper stuff, and I’m someone who’s actually taken time to learn color theory, and my Mom owns a salon. I still don’t think I’m Sephora tier. Same for things like hair products for styling/cutting/coloring... if you’re not a professional, you’re going to be more confused in a licensed or high end beauty supply than you need to be, Sally’s is a much better fit for the everyday casual hair product and makeup user. I think Sephora’s marketing is made to tell everyone that they’re an MUA to get them to spend money, and it works... for some reason a lot of people find Sephora appealing, like an expensive clothing brand. It’s weird.

I personally worked at Sephora for 3 years and the reason I would say no too powders or blushes and anything powdery is because it’s very unsanitary and you won’t get much use of it it anyways

When I asked for a sample at sephora, the lady gave me a mini of the product and I paid $10. I feel jipped.

Pretty much most beauty and skincare stores offer samples (Lush, Body Shop, etc). Some are more generous about it than others. Some places I feel like you practically have to beg to get a sample (Aveda can be snooty sometimes). No thanks to those kinds of places. :)

You cannot get both gifts (employee said you can) you can only get the gift if you have not gotten it (she said you can get it anytime) you cannot get as many samples as you want (employee in video also said you get three but she will make an exception) she said we can scrape out anything as long as it fits into the container (wrong we cannot scrape highlighter, blush, eyeshadow, lipgloss out) I’m an employee so I actually know what I’m talking about. She’s wrong as I stated.

The skin girl wasn’t trying to get rid of you. We have zoned we’re supposed to stay in & we can’t be kept away from that zone. So we have to suggest someone that can give you your samples. If you need makeup samples, we send you to the makeup zoned girl. If you need a fragrance sample, we send you to her. Etc.

I wish I could help you guys that used to be me! I was helping my friend from work the other day, it’s very overwhelming until you know what you’re looking at. My advice is start with lips and eyes. Grab some lipsticks you like and a simple mascara. Even just start at the drug store and get what’s on sale. Find a palette that you like and watch KZread on how to do eye looks and smokey eye. Practise with your cheap palette until you start getting an understanding for what you like and what you want to see in your eyeshadows. (Brushes: cheap ones online, even dollar store ones, anywhere there’s a sale. Learn to use the cheap ones and what you like before investing in expensive ones. Crownbrush.com has cheap sets and sales all the time). Don’t worry about full face until you get this down, because once you know the basics, Sephora won’t be nearly so overwhelming. Then all you’re trying to figure out is foundation, and contour. So start studying those when you’re ready. And if it takes you forever to figure out foundation, that’s okay.

Idk about y’all but Sephora is my fave place to shop. I literally only ever ask for fragrance samples . They have a good return policy so if something doesn’t work out I return or exchange with no hassle. I honestly see no point to these “hacks”. 🤷🏾‍♀️

they have a good return policy only in the us. in europe if you opened and used the product it cannot be returned. you can only return a product still in its packaging.

I never thought to ask for samples. That would be perfect for me so I don't waste money on something I'm allergic to. Lately I have to be careful about what I put on my skin. Great hack. Thanks.

Im a current sephora employee and have been for years and some of these are true and some arnt, like the samples, when can make samples of almost everything but not powders or mascaras or lipsticks or something pressed just because of germs or we would also break the product

Wish I knew this sooner :( I stopped shopping at Sephora, there was always an excuse for everything and a lot of the employees weren’t very nice either.

This is true is depends on the employee.. everything you ask for is technically free.. and we don’t check if you’ve gotten the bday gift we just say ok and ask which one u want.. sometimes we will just give it to u so u can go away lol 😂.. Sephora employees don’t care what you want or how much you want.. it’s the managers that watch what we are doing and emphasize every rule

I would love to get ignored in Sephora

I work at Sephora and I’ve told many people no they can’t get their birthday gift if there bday was months ago, the only acceptance was if it was a month before, don’t get these poor girls fired for doing this. We also put limits on samples for certain people because it’s almost like giving it away for free. It’s supposed to give you all a reason to come back, and people doing what you’re doing to get over on new customers get rejected on samples. We typically don’t put loose powders in samples because they can spill and be messy, I’ve made myself some , but I’ve never had anyone ask for a sample of powder. This video is only making me cringe because you’re trying to finesse the system. Fun fact: you can get samples EVERYDAY, instead of all in one day. That’s what’s not limited. I like the tik tok girl though, she’s helping but there’s people who do these hacks in order to stealz

Whenever I go to sephora and buy something I ask for a sample and they won't give me one if I don't spend 80$ or more. I would like to get samples to try new things and not wasting money in something that doesn't work for me but I guess some of the employees aren't acknowledged of that

All of those “Hacks” are completely flawed 😂 they are only able to make samples of anything they can pump or scoop. And you aren’t able to get both birthday gifts, because if everyone was able to get both, there wouldn’t be any left😂 You are definitely able to get as many samples as you want but you can’t abuse it either and have them make 20 samples, each sample expires after two days anyways🤷🏻‍♀️ super glad you tried them though! Loved the video 💕

The very first time I walked into a Sephora just to look an employee hooked me up with an account, both birthday gifts, and a couple more samples. I guess it’s just the luck of the draw.

I don't know where everybody else lives but here in good ole NH they are pretty generous with the samples. I've had workers offer to make samples for borderline everything I touched.

It's funny cuz anytime I've got samples of skincare, they've ALWAYS given me 2 of the little containers jam packed full. Then anytime I've gotten samples of makeup, they literally gave me enough for ONE USE. One time, the girl didnt even give me enough foundation for one use, I swear she put one pump in the container. And she tried to sell me the bottle 3 times while she was getting the sample🙄🙄🙄
