I had a teacher in Primary school with the same attitude towards wrestling as Salem in this "exposé". It aired on Channel 5 2000/2001 in the UK when I first watched this (might be wrong about the channel). I was in Primary 7 and my teacher had some sort of intelligence superiority complex. For example she got off on telling the class how stupid they were for buying Coca-Cola as it was just "fizzy flavoured water" so you can imagine what her opinion of a good percentage of the class watching a predetermined sport was. Anyway, the first time we were back in the classroom after this particular broadcast she came swaggering in thinking we would all have had denounced wrestling and went along with her way of thinking. She was so disappointed to find that wasn't the case. Her face was like Jamie Oliver's after he failed to convince those kids not to eat McNuggets by showing them how they were made...

Reminds me of a 99ish episode of Nitro when Mean Gene tried to get a cheap pop by referring to the "Home of the Islanders" in Long Island and got a loud "boo" echoing around the arena. A visibly bemused Mean Gene chuckled and said, "Well... maybe not the most popular team in Long Island..."

right. Because of incidents like Owen and Austin hurting each other. And Kids and drunk college bros doing it. I'd imagine Ryback getting an ear full from CMFlunk didn't help either. I have no idea how the dudleys got/get away with it and the 3D. And now because no one wants to deal with potential drama around concusions they just don't bust it out. I believed wrestling was real as a kid growing up during the Attitude Era. After falling off for a while and only getting back into things around 2017, I find a new appreciation in how much trust, skill and co-operation it takes for two people to have a match. Obviously it's fake, you're not picking up a 6 foot +, musclebound man in the traditional suplex posture, and you're obviously not delivering real bareknuckle punches and neckbreakers. It's insulting to assume that people only enjoy wrestling because they're too stupid to realise it's fake.

I just gotta say this, because it bothers the living shit outta me every time somebody says something about the finger-poke of having been " kayfabe shattering". The FPoD wasn't breaking kayfabe at all. Kevin Nash and the rest never tried to sell that him being poked in the chest actually knocked him out. In storyline, Nash was choosing to lay down for Hogan, and simply give him the belt back. Nash laying down for Hogan was the storyline. Everyone acknowledged that he was pretending to be laid out. Nothing "business-exposing" or " kayfabe shattering about it. Was it a shit thing to do, and a bad storyline? Yeah, I reckon it was...but it was nothing more than that.

Everything from sports, news, and politics is a conniving microcosm of wrestling as wrestling was historically the originator of such things in carnie times and the gladiator days it's amazing others don't understand this and that wrestling is the only one with honorable intentions.

Seeing as how it was the attitude era, the 1st time I saw this as a kid, I thought: "this show is seriously trying to convince me that the WWF pays people to make, then passes out to fans; hundreds of crudely drawn signs of South Park characters doing crotch chops every Monday night?" 🤔

If I remember right, the punt on Vince was legit. He did get a concussion from it. Vince wanted to really sell the move to be as dangerous as possible, and wanted to replay himself getting the move as much as possible in the buildup to Wrestlemania. Every other time Randy did it, they really only showed it once, so it didn't matter if it looked great. Since people would see the Vince one repeatedly, they'd be under the impression that ALL of the them looked as real. I also wouldn't put it past Vince to use it as leverage if any of the superstars didn't want to do a risky maneuver. "You don't want to do that? It's nothing I wouldn't do. I mean, I got kicked in the head, I'm not asking you to do something like that."

Just pointing it out: Joe performs a variation of the Muscle-Buster. His version is somewhat save, but the originall one isn't. For the originall Muscle-Buster you jump and land on your butt, thus putting all of the force on your opponents neck. It's basically a powered-up version of a piledriver which is way harder to perform without harming your partner. This move became famous because of a now legendary Manga-series which even has its own national holiday called "Kinnikuman". That's also were its name came from because Kinniku is the Japanese word for "Muscle", and, well, the Kinniku-Buster was the most popular finisher of the title-character. (Also: The Kinniku-Buster got incorporated into 2 different Tag-Team finishers called "Muscle-Docking" and the "Muscle=>Lap". The first use of the Muscle-docking is considered a legendary moment in japanese action comics, look it up. Even King from tekken does it once in his Tekken 5 ending.) If one of you ever read this: Please watch and/ or read Kinnikuman. It's not only the originator of the "Fighting Shounen"-Genre (Which later gave us such marvels like "Dragonball", "One-Piece", "My Hero Academia" and many, many, many more) but it is also an insanly good wrestling story. The authors really get wrestling, and the matches are amazing. The evn have cameos of some of the most famous 80ies wrestlers like Dusty, Giant baba and more. Plus: The patrairch of the Von erich family is literally a god in this Mangas Universe. No Joke.

Then him refusing to do it started making him and Paul London lose tag matches until Kidman snapped and hit the SSP on London.
