Exposed - Diwali Pollution Myth | Keerthi History

“Stop bursting crackers”, “don’t pollute the air”, and “don’t scare the animals”, are some very
common lines that we get to hear on and around Diwali every year.

Diwali symbolizes the spiritual victory of light over darkness good over evil and knowledge over
ignorance. It is a time when people embrace one another with joy and laughter. Nearly 1.2 billion
Hindus celebrate Diwali every year but quite often there are a lot of restrictions imposed on the
festival.

Instead of stubble burning, farmers should sell the harvested waste biomass to biogas production units. The biogas units can use those biomass for production of biogas and fuels through processes like gasification and saccharification of wastes. Also the farmers can use the biomass for mushroom cultivations. I think this might help reduce air pollution levels.

@@vinodyadav-ip1se Harvested waste I believe is referring to the wheat stock that is left in the farm lands after harvesting the grains. It is of no use to the farmer, however it can be used to create biofuel, or even used as natural decomposed fertilizers. Once again, we can infact celebrate Diwali in different ways, I for one do not burn fire cracker and have no interest in adding to the pollution, but that doesn't mean we should take away the joy of celebration from the other kids and families. It is also about fairness, why exactly is Diwali targeted every year? But not other holidays like Eid, Christmas etc. There is mass slaughter of animals on Eid and huge deforestation during Christmas, but no one talks about it. But when it comes to Hindu festivals, there seems to be no end to the criticism.

Diwali marks Lord Rama's return to Ayodhya with Maa Sita and Lord Lakshman after spending 14 years in exile and defeating the King of Lanka, Ravana. The festival celebrates the country's cultural heritage and is observed all over the country. The authoritarian central government wants to take away people's rights one at a time by making up bogus laws. In America, in all the theme parks like Disney World, Disney Land, Niagara Falls and other places they have a 30 minute fireworks show EVERYDAY - 365 days a year. And ALL the millionaires in America travel by personal jets which increase pollution by 3000%. They don't mention any of this, but they want common people to sacrifice our traditions. All these idiots who talk about pollution do not do anything to ban cars or private jets or ban cutting trees. None of them care to plant trees, but everyone wants to cut trees and build sky scrapers. The dictators make rules for common people and exempt themselves from those rules - and they continue to travel in their luxury cars and private jets.

I totally agree with almost everything with you said But the point at the end you said was that you used to count days till Diwali to burst crackers But right now it's not the same case with people especially in Delhi In my area kids were bursting crackers everyday without a day to spare since over a month and i am not even exaggerating this If anything when i say over a month i could be underplaying it Also to add to it I am 18 years old right now And I haven't bursted a single cracker since past 8 -9 years as well That is because I feel you don't necessarily need to burst crackers to keep the traditions alive Diwali is a festival of lights and lighting up a Diya is a much better option in my opinion

We can't compare tobaco and firecrackers. You absolutely know what will happen if we ban tobacco. What happened when they banned alcohol, the same will happen again. Firecrackers are not an addiction but cigirates are. Comparing these two are pointless. Again just stand in a busy street where you can hear extreme noisy cracker sounds. You 'll notice the street dogs will be running madly. If you have one dog in your house you 'll be able to realize how scared/traumatized it 'll become during these times...then imagine the dogs in the streets.

I'll be honest It causes a lot of noise pollution. It's kind of annoying for me but still I can understand as some people do have fun and it's a part of some people's income. I have seen multiple animals(dogs,cats,etc..) tremble with fear. I saw one yesterday which wasn't even able to move due to fear in my violin class and my neighbour's dog keeps running around the house in panic. Most of the old street dogs don't panic that much but a few young street dogs and cats do panic. I saw my friend's hamster trembling. I understand that there are many other factors that cause more pollution which should be stopped but Noise pollution is a big factor too in Diwali. We can't only think about humans, what about the other cuties. Also, some people have a phobia of huge sounds.

I'm in favour of complete ban of firecrackers... I suffer from asthma and I'm just 17. People who burst firecrackers just burst them for 15-20mins of joy but people like me have to struggle to breathe these 2-3 days. Believe me it's hell. Apart from asthma I also have anxiety issues, whenever there's a loud noise my chest tightens up. It's not only about me but several people like me.... What joy can one get knowing well that their actions contribute to many people suffering? We feel that our "religion" is being attacked, Hindus suffer in this country etc etc just because we are not allowed to burn firecrackers?? Diwali was never about burning firecrackers, it's a festival of light. Light is not only a physical concept but also an abstract one. Don't let your immature actions harm others, diwali is my festival as well please don't ruin my festival of lights. Happy Diwali to all

I stopped bursting fireworks for the two main reasons Pollutio- now that I know that it doesn't affect much(thanks for the video), I would also like to share another reason why I don't celebrate. It is not a part of our tradition Fireworks did not exist in the olden days and deepavali is a festival that is being celebrated for ages. Which means that it is a not traditional method of celebrating the beautiful festival of lights. But I don't know how Diwali was actually celebrated. I kindly request you you make a video on that.

All the points very beautifully explained. Why specifically this festival is only targetted which comes once in a year. This festival is a part of our tradition. An effort has to be done to reach thus video to every indian, Govt etc. All this points should also be highlighted by media and a national debate should be there.

I agree that firecrackers might not be polluting the air that much but why to add into the already existing pollution by burning firecrackers? And nowhere in our scriptures it is said to burn firecrackers on diwali

@@yuvasatish4066 That's not any sort of noise pollution. It's just a sound which even a bedridden person can bear unlike the very loud noise of crackers. Above all Diwali is a festival of lights and not of unwanted noise. A little bit sound of crackers is okay but not the excessive one 🙃🙃
