Love a sprinter! Make me want to make my slant cooler. Btw the Australian market got both. No overlap as in 83 they went to slant. My car is a last year 85. 4ac powered with a t50 gearbox from factory Also don’t worry about the headlights. Every single Australian market slant has the same glass with the sprinter badge. Since Toyota australia was very lazy

I agree with you that this Sprinter is incredible! I would indeed prefer it over an AE86! I find it funny you are amazed Toyota chose a different body on the E70 series for the Sprinter and Corolla 4 door sedans. Toyota had been doing this as well with the E30/E40/E50/E60 series, as well as with the E80 series and beyond. On the E80 series only the 4 door sedan differs, but with the E90 they completely change the body style as well. What we know as the 4 door sedan is the E90 Corolla sedan, while what we know as the liftback (or Cielo in Australia) is the E90 Sprinter. Toyota did similar things with other lineups at the time. Think about the insanity of having a distinct body for the Cresta/Chaser/Mark II/Cressida lineup. Or the Carina A60 and Corona T140. Or even worse: with the generation after that there was the Carina, Carina ED and the Corona. All three have a different body, body style and don't share any parts! Yes, the bubble economy was booming in the 1980s!

  • @juiceboxforyou

Its true, when you put it like that, I always thought they would reserve the styling for more expensive chassis, I find it hilarious they did this on the base models too

  • @__-vb3ht

I absolutely love how they blew what must have been hundreds of thousands or more on an entirely new rear half of the body, and it looks exactly the same as the standard one. The kind of stuff the bubble economy does to your brain

This thing is fukn glorious. Closest we got to this in AUS was the AE71 SPIRIT. Slant front 4 door "saloon" but same sedan body as ke70. 8v 1.6 carby 4AC motor, t50 with BW open diff. Cool rear boot spoiler and has front to rear side stripe decal and spirit badging. Very cool and sort after if you're into rwd corollas here.

The kind of video you inadvertently feel like clicking that like button more than once👌Other then the rare occasional AE86 that comes up for sale we don't have any e7x models pass through the classifieds at all. We in the Netherlands must have had them(I've only once seen a rusty one come up for sale) but they are all but gone it seems. Most commonly rusted into the ground in a similarly humid climate I take it. It wasn't before seeing them here that I ever had looked for them at all. I get the love though, simple lightweight RWD chassis' are always the golden ticket.

Nice video and nicer car. We got the slant front on thr AE71 here in Australia. It's a 1.6 stock with the 4AC and my aunty's is a 5-speed manual CSX. Unfortunately I haven't started it in a while and she dinged the front quarter but I have plans for a 4AGE eventually and then leave absolutely everything else stock. Anyway, nice video and I think I have to subscribe now. Even if only to hear "savage" more often in my life.

I remember watching a vlog part way back when talking about your progress with getting more equipment, but I can't find it. I can't think of any other chassis that got so many different variations. In the USA we got: 2 door sedan 4 door sedan Hard top Lift back 4 door Wagon Coupe (I think that's all of them) And then there were both AE (4A-C) and TE (3T-C) Then there's all of the other variants from all over the world. Japan also had 2 door wagons, and high top wagons among the stuff like what's in this video. The E7 chassis is hands down one of my favorites of all time.

(I'm not at all sure, but it's possible the back doors are like what some Corollas had in America, in overall shape. The only thing is it was common in the US for it to be required to only have the back door windows come down so far, so it might be different glass instead of two separate pieces, cause you could only roll em down so far anyway. To prevent children escaping, obviously. :) (We didn't get the Sprinter but it could be a case of mix and match in the parts bins.)
