Why would you go to a virtual bar to meet friends, instead of going to a real bar and meeting friends AND being able to actually have a drink and eat food..... ? I just don't see the point of that, or indeed any of it.

The metaverse needs to have a purpose. That effects your real world life. For example you can walk around a virtual walmart, mall ect. within a server as an avatar where you can walk around run into friends also within the same server. You pick out groceries, electronics, ect. Then your items you picked up are shipped you linked with door dash, uber or whatever delivery service. Meaning you can shop for groceries or whatever without having to leave your house actually be able to see the product look at lables and still feel like your actually there.
@balyboo5856
Жыл бұрын
Think how you are using online shops like amazon at the moment. The only reason to use metaverse instead would be a quicker and better shopping experience and there is no way to get there at the moment. This would need some technical advancements you can read in SF books about. Might be reality some day but i would estimate at least 50 years.

@vnehru1

@@jbradley I tend to agree there are valid reasons. Especially after watching meta connect and listening to leadership talk about the challenge of making something truly scalable - to potentially billions of people, eventually - that can also accurately render every person's face in real time on user friendly STANDALONE headsets (a nascent technology, if you think about them as a new computing platform altogether). The scale of their ambition is astonishing...execution remains to be seen. I'm very interested in your additional thoughts / insights on why the graphics suck for now, and what the timeline might realistically be for a major upgrade considering the hardware/ software constraints.
It's freaky that no one has legs.
I find it insulting that they give you legs during the avatar customization screen but take them away when you’re in the game…

15 billion is for all of reality labs I believe… meaning all the headset hardware, sales, research etc products like portal and raybans glasses, plus buildings, data centers ai research ar development, etc. vr is only a portion of that, and software an even tinier portion, with horizon being one of those projects. And all of that still is about comparable to what microsoft spent just creating the xbox.
can u go into metaverse without vr just on a pc

It's a good question. Meta are maybe casting too big of a net for users at this stage
Are all these VR worlds so cartoon like? I would prefer environments with a more photorealistic look, like in a 3D open world game. Also, I wonder why you can’t build your avatars face based upon actual selfies. With options to tweak of course but still I’d rather meet avatars that I knew looked something like their real world users as opposed to something completely made up.
@Matic3d
Жыл бұрын
Photorealism will come, but remember this is new tech, not a pc game… there are limits to hardware, networking issues, server infastructure etc that are all different enough from mainstream game dev or even typical vr game dev to require new approaches. The question becomes, given its effectively a product in development has it changed much in the past year? I’d say definitely. It’ll be like no mans sky, where the early experience is completely different from what it becomes. ;)

Looks like something from a late 90's game console. Probably explains why most people set aside the gear in less than 2 months. No thanks.
Can anyone explain to me why these metaverse games look soo bad from a technical perspective? They look like video games from maybe 15 years ago despite their Multi Billion Dollar budgets which I think is their biggest problem. They are just not very appealing. If this would at least look like GTA 5, I'd be down but that's the minimum amount of detail I'd expect from a virtual world to walk around in.
@Matic3d

The entire thing is being run on the headset, not a pc with a huge graphics card. This little computer is handling network stuff, all the game code, tracking position etc in real time, tracking hands and controls, rendering two screens at 90-120 fps doing physics collisions etc etc. and the ‘15 billion’ is for all of reality labs they make headsets, glasses, portals etc … r&d ar, buildings, ai, sales, produce events and concerts yadda yadda horizon is a tiny part of their org, just a single project.
